Tried & tested: Atlas Health Spa in Stevenage

For me, spa days are the ultimate way to recharge your batteries for a few hours without spending shed loads of cash and disappearing to an exotic island for a week. They provide the perfect year round pick-me-up when life and its stressors have taken their toll.

The venue

Until recently, I hadn’t realised that spa days don’t have to involve a five hour journey, endless fields and a country manor straight out of Dickens novel. It dawned on me that I had never been to a spa day or break that was city or town focused. Something about them didn’t scream relaxation to me. Atlas Spa has proven this theory utterly wrong.

Although not set in the most aesthetically pleasing surroundings (housed within the Stevenage David Lloyd Health Club in retail park with lots of restaurants and eateries),...

Tried and tested: VA Salon in London

Looking for a new beauty salon can be testing, especially when you end up having separate locations for all different types of services - one place to get your hair cut and coloured, another for manis and pedis and a final place for everything else like waxing and facials. Frankly, it’s exhausting - so I’m thanking the beauty gods that I have finally found my all rounder…

The venue

Mention the Excel Marina and very little comes to mind. In fact, mention Custom House (the nearest DLR to VA Salon) and it’s blank faces all round. Now, it means something. Nestled in between apartment blocks, a hotel and a few restaurants sits VA Salon, a friendly and expert beauty haven offering every type of treatment under the sun.

The venue itself is a good size and is methodically split into different...

Wahanda news: NARS Andy Warhol Collection

Here at Wahanda, we love it when a good plan comes together - and what better idea than to merge iconic pop artist Andy Warhol with beauty giant NARS? That got your attention…

François Nars is said to have been inspired by Warhol for years, and so the limited collections (available from the beginning of November) will undoubtedly be adding that something special to our makeup bags. Everything from the shades to the packaging and the names really encapsulates all elements of the quirky and eccentric artist we know and love.

The Colour Collection consists of five eye-popping nail varnishes, a long lasting eyeliner, four shadow pencils and shimmering lip gloss and a highlighting blush to die for. Our particular favourites are the New York Dolls (purple) and Superstar (teal) varnishes, the...

Wahanda news: Selfridges reveals plans for The Beauty Works

Amazing news for product junkies - the original beauty Mecca, Selfridges, has announced that it is to undergo a mega makeover that will be revealed in September. Tripling its beauty hall to 5,000 square feet in size, it’ll be launching new services and adding more than 50 new brands.

Forget having to visit the hairdresser’s for a blow dry, the salon for a manicure and the high street for your lotions and potions – all these and many more are soon to be under this well pampered roof.

The new one-stop beauty shop will be bigger and better than ever before, surpassing all others in the industry and providing an all inclusive shopping experience for this area of retail.

Selfridges Head of Beauty, Jayne Demuro says: “For years Selfridges Oxford Street has been THE most successful Beauty...

Tried and tested: Holy Lama body and face products

When anything product-based comes into the office, the following is guaranteed to happen: the ripping open of boxes, pulling off of lids, piercing of foils and the slathering of lotions and potions on every bit of exposed skin. Cue the next half an hour discussing said products and negotiations on who tries what first.

Holy Lama arrived in a bright red and gold box filled to the brim with goodies. Fellow writer Katie and I split the sets down the middle and dived straight into testing the miniature sized natural wonders.

The productsHoly Lama launched a natural body care range in 2000 after a long and established history of research into oils and spice extracts – their unique touch in the beauty world. The brand are also big advocators of the environment and sustainability, making sure...

Tried and tested: Pixi makeup

Beauty counter or store makeovers have always been my arch nemesis. There is nothing I hate more than walking through a department store, pausing at a counter and being pounced on within seconds and forced onto a stool with a thousand brushes, creams and lotions being thrust upon my face. It screams pressured and intense – everything you don’t want from a shopping experience.

The venuePixi cosmetics offer an entirely new experience to the cosmetic counter – one that is approachable, welcoming and knowledgeable. Just a stone’s throw away from Oxford Circus tube and nestled in the heart of Soho, Pixi is just the right mix of quirky and cute and fits perfectly into Fouberts Place (just off Carnaby Street).

The brand was founded 10 years ago by Swedish makeup artist Petra Strand – a woman...
