Wahanda loves: our favourite autumnal beauty buys

Autumn signals two things: a drop in temperature (which means it's time to swap the summer wardrobe for the considerably thicker winter one), and darker days which makes getting up in the morning that little bit harder.

We must remember that autumn is perfect for a few things - wearing darker (more complimentary) shades, loads of layering and experimenting with a more mysterious makeup palette. Unfortunately, cold weather also plays havoc with our health and beauty; fluctuations in temperature, scorching showers followed by freezing cold air, and a hot office followed by a stuffy train will send your skin into frenzy.

To ensure you’re prepared for the gusty autumnal weather, here are some super-salubrious winter-shielding beauty products we swear by.

Body woes

The clever people at Sranrom have devised a range of gorgeously scented moisturisers ideal for getting us through the chilly weather. Inspired by ancient Thai wisdom, Sranrom’s Urban Wellness Body Cream and Hand Cream mixes the delicate scent of Lavender, Champaca and Ylang Ylang to produce a nutrient-rich moisturiser – exactly what the (skin) doctor ordered.

Sranrom’s products are made from 100% plant active ingredients, 100% essential oils and are 100% cruelty free, and are great for those of us living hectic city lives. We’ll take a year’s supply, please.

Lacklustre lips

We want something that locks in moisture and repairs chapped lips, and we want it now. Shu Uemura’s Depsea Hydrability Moisturising Lip Balm does both. Containing beeswax and macadamia oil, this slick tube instantly comforts sore and dry skin, and locks in moisture for up to 24 hours. We approve.

Winter skin

Known as a ‘hero’ product, Melvita’s Intensive Moisturising Gel is a brilliant, multipurpose gel that works as a primer and moisturiser to plump and prepare dehydrated skin – perfect during winter time. The hydraluronic acid plumps out fine lines to provide an even and firm base for which to apply makeup.

The gel contains aloe vera and noni (a Polynesian plant known for its skin boosting properties) and can even be used as a facemask by applying and leaving for ten minutes before removing.

Heinous hair

Dry, brittle and lifeless hair is a common symptom of excessive drying and is worsened by cold and damp weather. The lovely people over at Dr Organic have granted our winter wishes with a Moroccan Argan Oil Hair Treatment Serum. The super-light product is instantly absorbed by the hair, which results in a silky, smooth and deliriously soft mane that is less frizzy. Native to Morocco, Argan oil is a rich source of vitamin A, vitamin E, antioxidants, essential fatty acids and phytosterols – the must-haves to keep our tresses tamed.

Moisturising mascara

You might not think about your lashes being affected by the weather, but continuously wearing mascara can leave the lashes dry and brittle instead of fluttery and flirtatious, especially as the temperature crawls closer to zero.

Space.NK have formulated Chantecaille Mascara, a moisturising mascara that is not only non-clumping but extends the length too. For a little added softness, coat your eyelashes in Vaseline before bed to wake up – it works.
