As the temperature drops a lot of you might be feeling the onset of the ‘winter itch’ also known as dry, flaky skin. The fluctuation in temperature between the cold air of the outside world and blissfully warm central heating can play havoc with our skin - especially our poor faces which bear the brunt of these harsh elements. Thankfully Anesis Spa in Clapham offers the perfect solution to help reduce the effects of the ‘winter itch’: the Crystal Clear Facial, including Microdermabrasion and Oxygen Therapy. Last week I was lucky enough to try it out.
A two minute walk from Clapham Common Station, Anesis Spa has a great location. Nestled in amongst a few other hair & beauty salons its uber chic exterior certainly makes it stand out next to its rivals. The modern, plush interior is enticing and welcoming. This little haven of tranquillity is the perfect place to escape the daily grind.
The spa has welcomed copious celebrity guests including American film director/producer/writer and actor Eli Roth, Girls Aloud’s Sarah Harding, and the cast of Made in Chelsea. Looking around at the glamour that oozes out of this place, it’s certainly understandable.
I admit I was slightly nervous about this treatment and worried the crystals would go everywhere - including in my eyes. Louise, my therapist, did a fabulous job of explaining exactly what was involved.
To start with, Louise cleansed my skin, an experience so relaxing (especially when she applied pressure to my temples) I would have been happy with just this part of my treatment. She then toned my face in preparation for the microdermabrasion and on the verge of dozing off I was woken from my stupor by the sounds of the machine revving up.
Louise then started the next phase of the treatment, which involved crystals being blown onto my skin to reduce the signs of aging, blackheads, pigmentation, blemish scars and stretch marks. The process was more controlled than I originally feared – with no crystals escaping into my eyes or mouth. As the crystals were blown onto my face, a vacuum sucked them up and plumped the skin as it went. The treatment wasn’t painful in the slightest, just a light scratching on the skin and even with the machine droning in the background I began to drift off again.
The second part of the treatment was the Oxygen Therapy. An oxygen serum, which helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and increases skin firmness, was applied in sections to my face before cold, pressured oxygen was blown in circular motions onto the serum until it soaked deep into the skin.
Next a moisturising mask was applied to my face, helping to firm, soothe and soften the skin as well as plump out wrinkles. It smelled delicious and while we waited for it to harden I was treated to a firm neck and shoulder massage - just the way I like it. Once dry, the mask was gently peeled off and a skin repairing, hydrating serum was massaged onto my face, before the final serum was applied. Known as the ‘skin brightening complex’, this serum contains natural brightening and SPF ingredients to minimise blemishes and pigmentation marks for a natural radiance.
From the minute I walked through the door, my experience at Anesis was totally tranquil. Louise made sure I got the most from my treatment by keeping me updated with what she was doing but not talking too much, meaning I could thoroughly relax.
Before the treatment, I was worried I might come out of it with red, blotchy skin but when I left Anesis my skin was glowing and I felt as radiant as one of their celebrity visitors. Fortunately I still have youth on my side so can’t really comment on the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, however my skin definitely feels firmer. Prior to the treatment my skin had blemish scars and spots and I have certainly noticed a reduction in inflammation and redness.
I would highly recommend this relaxing treatment to anyone else suffering the effects of the ‘winter itch’.
The Crystal Clear Facial including Microdermabrasion and Oxygen Therapy normally costs £95 but is available for a limited time only for just £35.
Having always been interested in Health and Beauty I was very excited when the opportunity to work at Wahanda came up. I have now worked for the Supply Team for 6 months and still love every day.
Being the youngest of 4 girls I have always been surrounded by current beauty trends, make up and the latest fads so it is great to combine a job with a passion as it doesn't feel like work!See my profile »
