On Tuesday night GLAMOUR magazine hosted their 10th annual GLAMOUR Women of the Year Awards, a chance to celebrate some fabulous well-known women in the UK (and a few from overseas) – and gawp at some fabulous red carpet attire. Here at Wahanda we love a floor-length gown as much as the next would-be-A-lister, but, as usual, it’s the makeup and hair that really caught our attention. So, without further ado we give you our favourite looks from the star-studded event. May the best woman win…
We admit it. We loved (and tried to copy) the 1980’s perm that made her famous as Charlene in Neighbours, but we have to say we love Kylie’s 2013 glossy blow-dry even more. Kylie's shoulder-length do was the perfect accompaniment to her frilly peach dress. With slightly smoky eyes and pale pink lips, her look was girly yet sophisticated. Perfect for the 45 year old popstar, and easy to replicate for any weddings, office dos or even red carpet events this summer - we should be so lucky...lucky, lucky, lucky.
To collect her Woman of the Decade Award, Victoria Beckham opted for a look that has served her well over the past decade and beyond: black. Pairing a strapless black jumpsuit with black nails, bronze smoky eyes, nude lips and side-swept tousled hair, her look was all at once on-trend, summery and - as always - very elegant. One of the best, and poshest, examples of this season’s ‘undone’ look that we’ve seen.
Another fan of the season’s subtle makeup trend, Fearne Cotton let her sky blue shift and bright yellow shoes do most of the talking on Tuesday. Fearne teamed her signature black eyeliner with delicately highlighted skin, pale pink lipstick (we spy a trend) and seriously sleek, side-swept hair. The new mum completed her less-is-more look with pale nails – a great accessory to a bright summer wardrobe.
When Jessie J raised half a million pounds for Comic Relief by shaving her head earlier this year, we were all impressed by her guts, generosity and how good she looked. After a few months growth, Jessie was sporting a very short peroxide crop on Tuesday (when she was presented the Woman Of Tomorrow Award) that she paired with flawless skin and light, natural makeup. What caught our attention were her canary yellow nails. We might not have Jessie’s talons (they make typing tricky) but we love the colour. A summer must.
One of our favourite looks of the night came from comedienne (and winner of GLAMOUR’s Writer Award) Miranda Hart. Miranda not only took on one of this season’s trickiest trends, swept/slicked back hair, she looked great doing it. A less dramatic take on the wet look styles displayed at a few s/s 2013 shows (Alberta Ferretti and Jason Wu to name a couple), Miranda’s look is a sleek, low maintenance option that is ideal for short hair this season. Wear it with understated makeup and a good slick of bronzer à la Miss Hart for a look that shouts "summer’s coming". Well, sort of. Maybe it's more of a whisper...
