Alongside the usual New Year’s resolutions to get fit, eat better and take up some kind of hobby, here at Wahanda we’d like to suggest another one: to find a skincare regime that works for you. If you’ve found yourself stuck in a beauty rut, using the same products you’ve always used and ignoring the fact that they don’t really work for you, the New Year is the perfect excuse to change things up.
We’re all guilty of using a product because it’s there, or reduced or our friend (with a different skin-type) raves about it. While this is fine, and fun, for things like make up, when it comes to skincare we really do need to think about our (skin) needs. That’s why this year, when it comes to skincare we’re making the resolution to think about ourselves and why last week, I made my way to ND Beauty Clinic to test out their Decleor Aroma Mosaic Face Treatments and get some answers about my skin…
Situated in the heart of the beautiful and opulent Mayfair, ND Beauty Clinic is tucked away inside the chic Michael John salon on Albemarle Street. Entering the salon I was greeted immediately by friendly staff who showed me to a comfy sofa and told me my therapist would be out soon.
When Samira (Sam) appeared she was warm and friendly, apologising for the delay – although I hadn’t been aware of one – and explaining that her previous client had been late. Sam guided me through the salon to the treatment room explaining: ‘It’s a bit of a maze’. I had to agree, although a very pretty one with soft lighting and plenty of mirrors.
Inside the treatment room, the bed was comfy, the temperature perfect and the sounds very soothing. Sam gave me some privacy to prepare for the treatment – I had to remove my top but was entirely covered with towels and felt completely at ease. Happily, I got into position and waited for the treatment to begin.
Decleor treatments are high precision, targeted treatments that aim to provide an expert response to the different needs of different skin types. The Decleor Aroma Mosaic Face Treatment begins with a ten minute back massage to help the therapist discover what is going on inside your body, and because, as Sam explained, a relaxed body responds better to products– I wasn’t going to argue.
After the massage Sam used her hands to measure the heat from my back and tell me what was going on in my body. My entire life I have been plagued by cold hands and feet, Sam was able to tell from my upper back that I had poor circulation as well as other diagnoses and predictions from wellbeing to menstrual cycle. I was very impressed.
I turned over and the facial began. Selecting Decleor products that she felt would best benefit my skin, Sam began cleansing and massaging – using a draining method to target problem areas. The process was incredibly relaxing. The smell of the aromatherapy oils in the products combined with gentle massage and soothing music had me fighting to stay awake - and failing to do so during a ten minute facemask.
When the treatment was over, Sam showed me exactly what she had used on my skin, explaining why and diagnosing me as having very dry skin which occasionally become oily through dehydration – therapists in the past have described me as dry or combination but no one has ever paid so much attention to my skin or provided such a thoughtful explanation.
From my experience of facials that promise instant results, the glowing skin at the end of the treatment often comes with an oily price - and extreme desire to wipe my face. This one, however, left my skin feeling soft and looking incredibly clear without being the least bit greasy.
Unlike other facials that use a pre-decided recipe of products, regardless of skin type, the products used in this treatment really complemented my skin and the finished result was exactly what I hope for whenever I have a facial.
Following this treatment I didn’t feel the nakedness I sometimes do after a facial. I felt comfortable without make up and when I arrived at the office was told my skin looked great. I recommended the mosaic facial to everyone who complimented me as I would to anyone who’d like to find out more about their skin and discover a regime that works for them.
