What do fluorescent lips, radio waves and an international fashion house all have in common? Not a lot, except that they’ve all been hot topics around the Wahanda water cooler this week. Launches, trends and high-brow eyebrows: here’s our week in beauty…
Since it began life in 2004, Marchesa has become renowned in the fashion world for its dazzling evening-wear collections. As we all know, no evening look is complete without a set of equally elegant nails which is why the good people of Marchesa have teamed up with beauty giants Revlon to create a stunning range of nail wraps inspired by gowns from the fashion house’s autumn/winter ’13 collection. The gilded, studded and generally bedazzled wraps showcase the brand's signature vintage and Asian influences and are available now at Boots stores across the UK for just £8.99. The matching dress might set you back a little more though…
She's famous for her signature, winged eyeliner (and became the new face of cult beauty brand Eyeko because of it) but when Alexa Chung stepped out at this week’s GQ Men of the Year Awards her look was all about the lips. Covered up in a simple (yet reflective) high-necked blue midi dress, Alexa let her mouth do the talking (sorry) with a matte, fluorescent orangey-red pout. Careful not to overdo it, Ms Chung left her eyes subtle and smokey and finished the look with a softly-tousled, no-fuss ‘do. Recreate the look with Mac Lipstick in Lady Danger (£15), a well-rehearsed pout and strong set of brows.
Speaking of brows, did you know that over 70% of your facial expressions depend on them and that shaping them correctly can take years off you? That’s what we learned when we took a trip to eyebrow experts at iBrows etc, behind Oxford Street, for some much needed threading. Ten minutes of threading and our brows were utterly transformed, no wonder it’s such a celebrity hotspot. Are your brows in need of some refurbishment? Do you dream of having luscious lashes like The Saturdays? Take a look at this week’s brow-tastic ‘Spa of the week’ for inspiration.
We sent Elisa, one of our community insiders to try out one of the hottest anti-cellulite treatments around...
"A short walk from High Street Kensington tube station, Adore Me MedSpa is easy to find and, once inside, the salon is modern, stylish and comfortable, and the staff are incredibly welcoming. I met my therapist who talked me through the procedure, which, I learned, works to fight wrinkles, improve contouring and tighten skin (getting rid of cellulite) by heating tissue with a radio frequency machine and stimulating collagen production.
"It took about twenty minutes to treat both legs and, while it wasn’t exactly painful, I can’t say it’s the most relaxing treatment I’ve ever experienced - the treated areas can feel slightly hot as the radio frequency is applied! But the results proved to be worth a little discomfort as my skin seemed tighter immediately. I was so impressed by the results from just one session I’ve decided to invest in a full six-treatment course. A great summer treatment."
