The last long weekend of the year is approaching, so what do you have planned? A Great British Barbie? A romantic break? Maybe you’re taking the opportunity to revisit your misspent youth. No? Just us then. That’s right, this weekend we’re taking a trip down memory lane and paying a visit to our teenage holiday hotspot: Newquay. No, we’re not going to drink cider on the beach and get cute boys to teach us to surf, we’re actually going for a relaxing couple of days at Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa. Care to join us?
Overlooking the Newquay coastline, Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa combines luxury with a laid-back beach style, for an effect that is modern, comfortable and unique – a far cry from that hostel we stayed in when we were 17. Situated in one of the coolest Cornish towns, the five-star spa has a number of luxurious selling points, but with a long weekend ahead of us one of the most important has to be its proximity to the beach. With treatment rooms actually overlooking the stunning shoreline, the spa at Fistral Beach Hotel is the ideal place to relax, unwind and breathe in some fresh sea air.
If fresh sea air isn’t your thing, the Fistral Spa also offers less sea-fearing guests an indoor, ‘starlit’ heated pool, as well as a Jacuzzi, sauna and mosaic steam room. It’s also the only spa on the north coast of Cornwall to offer ESPA treatments, and all staff have been trained by the spa beauty specialists.
Using ESPA products and treatments, the spa’s in house experts have put together the ‘Signature Fistral’ range to help guests make the most of their time at the spa and enjoy the its unique surroundings. The Fistral Spa Tranquility package, is a pretty unique example of this. While the word ‘tranquility’ is hardly unfamiliar when it comes to spa-going, this package is about more than massages and soothing sounds and includes a jog/walk on a specially designed beach trail as well as holistic treatments by ESPA, full use of the facilities, and treats like a welcome foot ritual and two course lunch in Bay Bar. Oh, and a Leighton Denny mani and pedi too. Not bad.
If you have the opportunity to visit for an overnight stay, there’s nothing quite like waking up to a panoramic ocean view. The Fistral Beach Hotel and Spa offers lots of options for overnight getaways, from a one night ‘Check In and Chill Out Spa Break’ (which does what it says on the tin, with a 25 minute treatment, overnight accommodation, full use of facilities and an English breakfast), to the more indulgent ‘Rejuvenate Three Night Spa Break’ (including three nights accommodation, a 90 minute treatment, full use of facilities, an English breakfast and a three course dinner overlooking the sea).
Guests are also welcome to pop in for individual treatments in one of the nine treatment rooms. Services on the menu range from body wraps combining Ayurvedic rituals and western practices, to basic maintenance like manicures and pedicures in the Little Fistral Spa, which focuses less on relaxation and more on ‘finishing touches’ – although overlooking the sea, it’s pretty relaxing whatever you’re after.
Wish you were here? We don’t blame you. Take a look at The Fistral Hotel and Spa’s venue page for more information and Instagram-worthy seaside pics, and book your escape now.
