Fabulous location. Great gym and swimming pool. Lovely relaxing lounge. Wonderful place. Scared to tell you, in case everyone goes there and it gets swamped! Seriously great place. The staff are excellent too - super helpful.
Lovely venue with big windows and a friendly atmosphere. Small classes. Great teachers so far! I have been twice now and have more classes booked, they do a great range of times from early morning so I can go on my way to work.
The staff are mainly pretty ignorant and some actually stand in the middle of the mats looking at their abs and biceps. Because they have no idea themselves about gym etiquette they have allowed some very bad habits in the members to become the norm.
People hog the gear, sit on machines talking on their phones, congregate in large and loud groups in the weights and mat area and at the sign of any confrontation the staff are suddenly no where to be seen.
The local school kids took to stealing parts from the cable machines. When I pointed out that the expensive machines were now practically useless their answer was a don’t-blame-me shrug. It didn’t occur to them that they should be trying to deal with the problem or at least order replacement parts.
I had the same peice of equipment break three times on me. Again, shrugs from the staff, who clearly didn’t like being dragged away from watching TV.
City prices, with local authority inflexibility.
It’s a shame there aren’t too many other local options.
Lovely trainer, very pleasant, patient and encouraging I think I was very fortunate to go on a quiet day as there were only two of us to train so more one on one time. This was a good general introduction to reformer pilates as I had never done it before. The facilities were spacious and clean and well located opposite Angel tube. I would recommend, especially as the trainer made time to discuss my specific needs at the end of the class and it was free! No better way to discover if pilates could be just right for you.
This was my first time doing pilates class and I really enjoyed my experience at Pilates HQ. We were in a small group and the teacher was focussing a lot on the techniques for beginners. This is a really good value for money and I will come back again.
I had purchased on two occassions vouchers that gave 10 passes at great value. The changing area is busy during weekday up to 6pm with mums or nannies changing the kids for the swimming classes (who eat smelly foods and then start looking at the naked women getting ready for the gym) then take 2 swimming lanes out of the 3 for their classes. The sauna is very small and can get easily packed. The gym upstair has a boy's area packed with lots of heavy stuff and where some guys can be pretty rude to a woman (as opposed if you were a bigger guy than them) even if the gym staff is near you. Can become quite smelly and off putting. The cardio area is very compacted and the whole feel is that surely you can find a better place than this.
This is a great venue in a great location. It's clean and airy and the instructors are really friendly and clear. It's an amazing workout too - more like a gymn workout because of all the resistance, but an hour well-spent!
The evening classes around 6-7pm tend to get booked up several days in advance.
from the start this company were a bad lot to deal with. As soon as they have your money they don't want to know. the course start dates don`t happen then when you try and contact them by phone they are aggressive , rude and anything to get you off the line. Amie normally answers the phone and good luck if you have a problem because you will probably get a mouthful. She was extremely rude and actually put the phone down on me more than once!! I would definitely NOT recommend this company to anyone!! Avoid them and go find some other company who actually provide you with a bit of respect!! Overall Extremely UNHAPPY!!!
LA Fitness Marylebone apart for some of the trainers that are not up to par and only like training pretty young girls, I am not young but yet I am good looking female and I was treated shabbily by some of them. I found that overall the LA Fitness in Marylebone is Ace.
I've been attending the Hove boot camps and gym sessions for the past five months. Previously I’d tried lots of different things, boxercise, body combat, run club, yoga, or just slaving over a cardio machine at the gym. I always got bored, and de-motivated when I didn’t get the results that I wanted.
I enjoy the boot camps as every one is different, and you get that positive encouragement to help you along. The guys know what they are doing, so after a mere 40 minutes I get a much better workout than pounding the machines at the gym for hours and not really knowing what to do! I feel stronger, I have lots more energy and I’m leaner to the tune of almost two dress sizes. The sun always seems to shine on our Saturday morning boot camps, and working out in the open air is lovely, it beats a stuffy gym I tell you!
We had a lovely day at the Breadsall Priory.
We chose the back massage which was very relaxing then we went for a swim and sauna afterwards we had lunch there which finished the morning perfectly a great day out
I'd heard about The Zone Health and Fitness in the past on numerous ocassions, namely recently during Children in Need they appeared on BBC London News after raising thousands of pounds for the charity.
I had been in and out of gyms all of my life, and after moving across town I decided it was about time that I checked the centre out. My impressions prior to entering the centre were good - a choice of 5 busses could've taken me to right outside the doors. Furthermore the number of tennis courts outside the centre really got me eager to have a look around.
The reception was clean and tidy and before I even got into the gym I was feeling good about this place.
Before I'd even touched a weight my mind was made up. The tour was excellent and I knew exactly what I'd be getting with my membership - which I feel is great value for money.
I now go to the gym 6 days a week and do 13 out of the 70 classes on a weekly basis. This is not a place to miss!
I walked into the Zone with low expectations after struggling to find anywhere local with the lifting facilities that i need, therefore i was suprised by what the zone had to offer. They had a lifting platform, power rack, and a really good selection of dumbells. The facilities are clean, and the staff are friendly, would definitely recommend this place
I started at curves 18months ago and i love it , its great its just for women .the staff are fantastic ,friendly happy staff , all have great knowledge on execise ,nutrition and diet plans .I go alone most days , and i have got to know lots of the ladies that go and it is great fun and really friendly .They also do alot for different charitys at the moment women refugges fabulous chairty one i had not really given to much thought to . and all they are suggesting is give a gift to a child or mum such as a toy or shower gel sets etc great idea . a few months a go it was decorate a bra for breast cancer . they put them all around studio some are fantastic winner get membership free for that month bra donated to chairty plus any old bra and being all girls we all have a few old bras , excuse to buy new...

Im a massive fan of Heart and Soul fitness!!
Joined in August after gaining some holiday weight. Had a 4 week goal and after lots of advice from lovely Sarah the owner, I was given a trial personal training session to see if i liked it.
I was instantly hooked!! Iv never ever stuck at a gym or enjoyed exercising before but I think that the open, friendly and personal approach that all the staff have at Heart and Soul definitely has kept me coming back.
Needless to say, my goal was reached and Iv literally never felt or looked better.
I lost 1 and a half stone in about 5 or 6 weeks!!! This was down to great nutritional advice from my very experienced PT Shahin, as-well as some fun but rigorous training sessions and classes. I could never have achieved this without all the fantastic staff at Heart and Soul Fitness.
Thank-you so much guys and I couldn't recommend this place more!!
I love my gym!! (something I thought I would NEVER say)
Fantastic new gym just over Battersea bridge. This gym looks like it cost a fortune as it is decked out with all the most modern equipment. At first it looks like a dedicated martial arts gym, and if you want to train at any level for Boxing, Judo, MMA, Muay Thai, BJJ or others you will get top notch coaching and guidance here, however it also runs spin classes, aerobics, yoga and many more mainstream fitness classes to suit all gym users at all levels. And as a member I can choose a different activity on any day depending on what I feel like doing - there are no hidden charges for any of the classes I have done so far.
While the gym looks like it is a modest size, the classes are structed so that you're never crowded and if you are using the weights or other equipment you are never impacted by the classes running elsewhere in the gym.
By far the biggest drawcard for this gym is the level of experience of the instructors running the classes. All instructors have competed at high levels, many at professional level of their disciplines and they are all technically astute as well as being personable and focused on getting the best out of the class and me as an individual. The training is rewarding and consistent and the atmosphere at the gym is friendly and positive.
If you are looking for a place to train and keep fit then Stars Gym is definetly the way forward.
The trainers and staff are very approachable, professional and friendly always willing to help, the facilities are top notch and well maintained and there is a range of clases suitable for all needs.
I highly recommend Stars Gym its a great place with a great atmosphere.
it was great as usual, brilliant trainer.Very enthusiastic and energetic, easy to learn.
lots of fun . Can just recomment to do zumba once in a lifetime, even if you are exhausted afterwards you wanna do it again!!!
I had any kind of service and it's poor, cheap, always late or classes are cancelled, disgusting showers and swimming pool....I complained till I could now I'll get my membership cenceled. I rather be fat than catch a desease! People bring your money somewhere else!
As soon as arrived the receptionist checked on her pc and found my reservation straight away, she was very friendly and gave me directlion to the changing room and the power plate location,The session is run by a very good instructor that knows very well the machine and the work out was a mixture of cardiovascular and strenght exercises.I found I was sweating after 15 minutes and really felt it on my legs and arms the day after. The work out is amazing and it really works.I done 2 power plate sessions and I am very please with it. I would strongly raccomended to anyone wanting to speed up weight lost and muscles mass encrease.Very good and friendly staff ! I will go back for a session or 2 because is a very quick half an hour that makes all the difference and tones well all the body muscles.
This two week gym membership was amazing value. I enjoyed the daily 30 minute core strenghening classes. Various instructors but a gym called Red was my favourite. Would love to be a member but the full price memebership is too expensive for me. Will look out for future deals!
I have been a member here for two years and visit at least three times a week.. The facilities are fantastic. Very new and modern exercise equipment and plenty of it! You will never have to wait to use a machine, which is a problem I have experienced in other gyms. In the warmer months, you can swim in a lovely outdoor pool which is a real treat in London. Unfortunately, the front desk staff do not live up to the standard that you would expect I have found them to be quite rude and stand-offish at times, which really lets the gym down. It's also pretty pricey. I pay £90 per month, and that is without tennis, but I justify that by making the most of facilities and classes.
A brilliant club - Just left the most miserable Total Fitness with miserable staff and old kit to come to a club that has just put new gym kit in and Tvs and a brand new sound proffed spin studio. Classes were amazing too - Try Re-bounding! the next new thing apparently!
I have used the £5 for 5 classes session and loved it very much! The body combat is a brilliant work out and engage every muscle! staff is very friendly and nice, you feel like at home gym. It is not a big gym , so has no swimming pool, but having said it has got everything you need and close to everyone who works in the CIty!
Unexciting gym ,located near liverpool street station.
All facilities are available but decor needs to be updated. Took a pass using my wahanda points, was not really worth the effort
The staff are amazing - the classes are fun - Would strongly recommend - They change the content of the classes frequently so you don't get bored - the people on the course are fun too.
I had a great experience with Heart & Soul Fitness they were recommended to me by a friend who was still training with them. I am middle aged and have started carrying some extra weight and generally my fitness was poor. Due to my job I am frequently away travelling and my diet is terrible because of this.
However I am a month in with training with a trainer at Heart & Soul Fitness and they are excellent! The trainer I have is making me keep a food diary and pushing me in every session to lengths I did not think possible on my body.
Mixed and varied exercises for people of all fitness levels by professional personal trainers who certainly know there stuff. They have a functional training room which is very different to anything I have seen before. CrossFit style training using your own body weight and doing exercises in circuits timed so you get a cardio workout for your heart & lungs.
In just under a month training 3-4 times a week I feel stronger, fitter and more flexible. I am starting to look how I want to and think about my lifestyle choices more. Heart & Soul Fitness have had a positive impact on my life and have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.
Have to agree 100% with the other review. Gym is small and gets over crowded. Facilities keep breaking down and the staff are not very helpful there. I looked for a new gym and would suggest you do too!
I went there in the late morning hours, and there were only a few people training in the gym. The staff were very nice and friendly, made me feel at home and do my own training freely. Shower, changing room was very clean and made me feel relaxed.
I used to be a member of this club and have recently joined again. At first I thought the price per month was expensive but since leaving and trying other Gym's in the area i've realised what actual value for money I had with LA. Lynn sport the next closest (in offering) is £2 per month more for the same level of cover, ie gym, cardio, classes and swimming yet you have to travel to the pool as its not in the same location. Along with this Lynn sport allows people to pay as they use which on the face of things sounds good but when several unsavoury characters kept showing up I wanted the exclusivity of a private members facility. I'm so pleased I made the step to re-join and the staff comitment to my goals are second to non, like most things you get out what you put in and so long as you don't shy away from asking if you need advice or motivation then its readily available. I can't wait to get back in shape and hopefully meet new friends and enjoy my fitness routine once more.
I checked into Slimmeria over Easter to get away from everything and 'get my head together' (being a stressed out city dweller!), put the 'spring back in my step' (after months of eating lots of rubbish - Percy Pigs were my friend... hehe!) and (hopefully) lose a little bit of weight.
In the end I achieved all that and so much more!! Galia and her team could not have done more to make your stay comfortable and restful. There were great people there too; I made 4 lasting friendships!! The 'exercise' program of walking, yoga and core stability gave me my 'mojo' back and....*drum roll please* I lost 6kg!!!!! (n.b. to put it into perspective I am 6' and had about 2 stone to lose!)
Since I came home I continue to feel the benefits; I have a real spring in my step and continued to eat healthily and exercise, I am still dropping1 or 2 lbs ever week, I am easily one dress size smaller than before Easter and wearing those clothes thatI kept because I will soon fit them (you know what I mean!!) ....
I have finally plateaued and stopped losing weight after a holiday and house selling/buying stress..... But I know that Galia is right where I left her if I need her!! That is comforting but also enough to get myself to put down the cake and go to Zumba!!!
Galia and team - thanks for everything!
When you walk into the entrance of the Hilton Park Lane it is nothing short of 5 star luxury. You walk down the stairs to the basement which is a world of its own with salon, gym, spa etc. The changing facilities are very clean and spaceous so no complaints there. The only negative from the Livingwell gym is that it is circular and very very small so not the kind of place you could do a serious workout. Mirrors surround it so you are always watched and equipment is very limited. I think it is fine if you are staying in the hotel and want to pop in for a workout but not to join on the expensive memberships.
I joined their outdoor fitness boot camp sessions in January in Clapham. It's a great pair of brothers who really know how to make exercise fun. It's brilliant value - you can spend far more going to the gym for less enjoyment and fewer results - I have! Definitely recommend it - it's not just about the exercise, it's about the great group of people who exercise with us also and the laughs we have along the way! P.S. Love the kettlebells and kick-boxing/boxing - and their intensive two-week bootcamps with diet plan are brilliant value for money.
I have already told all my friends to go because I had a fabulous time. I went on a 2 day fitness retreat and loved every minute. The facilities and setting were beautiful, the food was lovely and the peace was especially welcome. As in all things it is the people that make any experience and the trainers and management were super. I really got a lot from these few days and will rebook soon. If you feel at all tentative about throwing yourself into a fitness retreat, you really don't need to at Hillmotts. You will work hard but you smile a lot too.
The Walker Brothers have put together a great workout in the park, incorporating equipment that you won't find in other outdoor classes (kettle bells, TRX, tyres), and the price is right! Sizes are small enough to feel like a personal training session, and the group dynamics are really comfortable and fun. Unlike other outdoor groups I've tried, classes run year round, which means I don't have to scramble to find something else to do after a few weeks' time. I've definitely toned up and feel stronger now that I'm working out with Tim and Steve, and I can't imagine moving on to the other workout groups in the park...
I've been attending Walker Bros sessions for 6 months now. After our trial period ran out, Me and my boyfriend cancelled our gym memberships and signed up full time to Walker Bros Fitness. Tim and Steve have finally made us realise exercising outdoors works!
I recommend both the boot camps and the general sessions. The trainers are motivating and they've not just educated me on the positives of exercise but they've also changed the way I eat.
Its like a personal training session for a fraction of the price.
Easygym Wood Green is brand new and boasts 'state of the art' equipment.
On the lower level they have enough aerobic equipment to train a small army as well as fixed weight machines, and on the upper level a wide selection of free weights and more specialised weight training equipment.
Pros:
* It is new, so it is clean;
* They have a 'sweat towel' policy, which means that anyone having a workout is supposed to use / lie on a towel to keep the equipment clean and pleasant for everyone;
* car parking is included (as with the previous gyms - Holmes Place and then Virgin Active;
* biometric entry to the gym via a pin code and fingerprint identification.
Cons:
* the staff seem a bit vague and unwilling to recognise issues raised;
* signage is very bad - the free weights floor is simply marked as "upstairs to the locker rooms", it is only when you get to the upper level that a sign above the door announces "strength" training;
* although their are reminders to get your parking ticket stamped, the machine lcoation is not prominent;
* car parking is included in the price, but you have to exit - via the shopping mall - to the street and use the front entrance to reach the gym, which is a bit time-consuming if you want to workout and make a quick get-away;
* biometric access wasn't working properly when I was there;
* fire alarm was triggered, but went on for at least five minutes, despite being a false alarm, which was painful on the ears;
* sweat towel policy is not currently explained or enforced (I'd hazard a bet that a lot of the people using the gym don't understand that they should lie on their 'sweat' towel, rather than keep it around their neck or, in many cases, not use it at all);
Good value for money, but it will be interesting to see how well it is maintained and especially whether it is kept clean and the 'sweat towel' rule enforced. Many gyms disappoint with regard to cleanliness, so fingers crossed that Easygym can raise the bar.
Cleo and David offered us a fantastic amount of support and motivation during our stay at Hillmotts. Thinking of an annual fitness retreat.
This was fun ,and a fast way to tone up pre holiday although it was hard work.
Class was held in the basement so quite dark, however it was fun ,no room for proper changing facilities and one bathroom,so bring wipes for your feet.
I missed a class so Janet instructor kindly fitted me into a stretching /toning class which was harder than the pole exercise classes.
Very easy going atmosphere, everyone had their own pole and it was nearly always full if you want a fun few weeks with friends i recommend booking a course, I will go again with freinds.
I was a member of Esporta Wandsworth during 2005/2006. The date on my review doesn't match, but there's a limitation on it, so I put the year as far back as it would allow me. I loved it there, it's the gym equivalent of a 4* hotel. The facilities were excellent and the changing rooms the cleanest I have ever visited. The swimming pool at lunch time was pretty empty which was something that attracted me as I hate crowded gyms and waiting to use machines, so my personal trainer came up with a plan that included twice weekly swimming lessons. The off peak prices were ok and they also offer a good corporate plan if there's enough of you to join. The only reason I left was because I moved abroad. If the standards are still the same it's a place not to miss out.
The venue is a bit shabby albeit in good working order. The poles are good. I never knew pole dancing could be so challenging. The regular blonde teacher is very good, very consistent and levels the class well to the level of the participants. One class was covered by another teacher who didn't seem to understand that we were a class of beginners and was trying to make us do things that we had had no previous grounding in. She also focussed on using one arm only whereas the regular teacher always makes sure that both arms are used so as not to over strain one side of the body.
So challenging yet very enjoyable and I will certainly try out the moves in the next club that I visit which has a pole!!
I had never used a power plate before and the therapist took the time to explain the usage and benefits of it. The location was excellent and during the day was quiet so did not feel self conscious at all. I would recommend this centre to others and hope to return soon,
LOVED Camp Gladiator!!! I've tried many boot camps and this one is by far the absolute best! I like the way you can go to all their locations and times. They seem to always be adding additional ones too. The trainers were great and the workouts were great. I will do this boot camp again and would recommend it to others.
This is one of the nicest gyms in the greater Boston area. The facility is huge and they have EVERYTHING - sauna, pool, hot tub - the works. The Celtics even train here so if you see a 7' man wandering around he probably plays basketball. This is a bit more expensive than your regular gym but feels more like a spa because it is so nice. Also, the facility has a salon, out patient services, and day care so it's a one stop shop. Highly recommend.
Solid gym when you don't need a lot of frills. Price is decent for in the city. No pool which is pretty rare in the city. Facilities are good though it is very busy at this location so you'll regularly find a machine out of order or have to pick your second choice for cardio. Weights are generally more available though. Would recommend for your everyday gym.
"I've signed up to gyms, I've played loads of sports, yet nothing seems to motivate me as much as Walker Bros Fitness."
You do get a pole each and the instructors are really friendly to women of all sizes the classes are great. I have been to a few pole lessons and this was really good but there are no lockers one tiny changing area for one person so get ready before you go. So this means you need to change at the back of thr class or gt there early. There are no showers which is fine if you are going home anyway. The one issue I have is although you have a pole each there are 13 poles. If the class is full you have two instructors but on courses I have been to before normally there is one instructor to 3 girls to watch them when they first start completing the moves inky because pole is quite dangerous. I think you need to know yourself and speak up if you want the instructor there as some moves I definately would not trust to do on my own with no support
There is a good range of equipment for gym training. Its location is easily accessible and the pricing is more that affordable.
This has been m y primary gym that I work out at. I train my clients at a private gym on 5th avenue. The facilities are clean, and the staff is professional.
Less crowded than the NYSC I used to work out at. Best gym in the UES in my opinion.
I had a very positive and motivational experience. Taking hikes in the country side was amazing, it was nice to breathe in fresh air and get a phenomenal workout at the same time.
It was definitely great value and money well spent.
The trainers and therapist were very experienced and I learned a lot of new things about how to benefit the most for my workouts as well as eating healthy delicious and filling foods. The meals that were prepared were very tasty and left me feeling full.
They provide a wide range of fitness routines throughout the day which are fun and the days fly by very fast. I loved the zumba, yoga, circuit training and trying new ways and routines of exercising that I never have before.
I feel detoxed and renewed with more energy than I've had in years!
I recommend this to anyone as there were wide range of ages, male and female with various levels of fitness and endurance during my stay.
I had a fantastic 5 days at the Hillmotts and would recommend the facility/experience to all of those who are keen to be educated in fitness and healthy lifestyle as well as those wanting to have a luxury pamper in the spa.
The staff were amazing, a lot of fun and understanding they really understood what may objectives were, and taught me that exercise and maintaining a health food balance can be exciting rather than daunting.
I left the facility feeling great, full of energy and most importantly motivated to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
CHER MARTINETTI IS A FRAUD. She got me to prepay for 1 hour exercise sessions. After only 2 sessions, I had to stop and asked Cher for my balance of $3,100. I have Multiple Sclerosis and my doctor advised that I should not continue this exercise program. I explained this to Cher and I never got the money back. I took this case to New York State Small Claims Court and WON. Even with the Court serving her and serving the NYC Health Club where Cher was working I am not getting my money back – it’s been since May 2010. Now Cher has left NYC and I am still trying to get my money back. Just want everyone to know what kind of person Cher Martinetti is. DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU
Spent three days at Hillmotts on a fitness retreat. The experience was exhausting and exhilarating and physically shattering and absolutely brilliant. You never know what you can achieve until someone challenges but also encourages you as well as they do at Hillmotts. I worked out so hard for three days, I ate good healthy and very appetising meals, I spent as much time as possible exercising outdoors and spent the time with instructors who knew what they were talking about and were able to impart their knowledge in an interesting and entertaining way which meant that I remembered so much more of it! I also had lots of fun too! I recommend Hillmotts absolutely.
Overall the facilities and equipment are first rate. My main problem with this gym is that it is much too crowded. You pretty much have to queue to use anything. The best equipment is worthless if you can't take advantage of it. Frankly I'd rather pay a few quid more and go to a gym where I can actually get a workout.
At the risk of sounding a complete saddo, BMF has CHANGED MY LIFE!!
I go up to 5 times a week and now have tip top fitness, and made loads of friends. I even carried on til 2 weeks before I gave birth to my second son!! There is nothing more motivating to push yourself that extra bit than an enthusiastic intructor and a group of people to race against. I love the sessions and have had the occasional minor injury (2 in five years), but still healthier than sitting on a fat bum watching Eastenders eh? The beginners group is quite easy and I have seen obese 60year olds enjoying the class (OK, perhaps "enjoying" only afterwards, but still they come back!). I'm just hoping they branch out to include a kid's BMF soon... it would be amazing.
There are many pros to taking a course at Splash. Firstly, everyone gets one spinny pole each. This is definitely not the norm (most other schools are 2-3 students per pole) so it's fantastic to have the full time to learn as opposed to standing around waiting! (plus I've been told that learning on a spinning pole is better than a static, though I can't vouch for this myself). On my first lesson they overbooked by mistake and I had to share a pole with the teacher, so I couldn't follow as she demoed - they apologised for this and actually gave me an extra class later the same week to make up for it. You also get a good full-hour's workout - a good warm-up to start and the last 10min are dedicated to core-work and stretching. In the last 2 weeks they bought a different teacher in to do the last part and she was really excellent.
The cons are that there are so many students that you don't really get enough attention from the one teacher. Whenever I had trouble I had to go and flag her down, and even then, I didn't always get the help I needed with the moves. As for facilities, the mirrors are stick-on so you can't really see what you're doing properly and there's no changing room - just tiny space with black curtain. But really these are pretty minor gripes when it comes to the full experience at such a central location, which was amazingly awesome value with the Wahanda voucher.
I did notice the numbers dwindling a bit over the 6 weeks of the course so I would definitely urge people to stick with it after starting: only in my 4th week were my arms strong enough to start doing moves properly (the first 3 weeks was full of disheartening falling off)! Many even managed to go upside down on the last class and although I didn't quite manage it, it's definitely whetted my appetite to take up this fun and unusual hobby.
I went for a manicure and cream tea with some friends. The staff were friendly and the polich lasted for well over a week so I was impressed.
the only negative is that we had to eat in the salon too and not in the cafe/restaurant next door.
Tip top doesnt even begin to come close to describing Hillmotts !
We went as a group of 10 regular lady 'Boot Campers' and everything about our day exceeded expectation. The staff were friendly, professional, helpful, knowledgeable but above all, very, very hard working and dedicated. Nothing was too much trouble ! They made us feel so welcome and went to a great deal of trouble to make sure that our day was absoloutely perfect.
Our group were already planning our next visit before the last one had finished.I have never been to any other establishment where the staff made such an effort.
I cannot recommend Hillmotts enough - please do go and try it - you wont be disappointed !
I had a wonderful time at Sofitel, the staff were friendly and attentive, the afternoon tea was amazing and the quality of the manicure was tip top, would defiantly go again and recommend to a friend.
Please note: there wasn't an a manicure option in the drop down menu, so strength training = manicure!
This place does just what is says - and it is quite accessible and I really needed a quick workout after eating some really heavy carb rich food!
Enjoy the gym people.
**** Caution if you have small children*****I loved this gym up until was working out doing a boot camp outside the gym with a trainer when my two year old son came running out the front door in the parking lot. He got out of the childcare area out that broken gate and past the front door staff. I took him inside and was holding him and no one even noticed he was gone. They were very apologetic however the they could only say they are very sorry. When I said to them this is like the worst thing that could happen there commit back was "no it wasn't he could have gotten hurt". So need less to say we cancelled our membership. It is a very nice gym, but childcare not very supervised and to much space for free running which can cause injury to little kids.
I've been a member of gll in Hackney for a few years and have always been impressed with their services. When I moved to Waltham forest, this was the first gym that I tried out to be my new local and regular one.
While the pool and track looked pretty good, the gym was really dissapointing. It is tiny, with no windows and lots of broken machines. The changing rooms were frankly terrifying! Dank with flickering lights. I've never got dressed so quickly!
If you want to join a gym in E17 DONT go here! Peter May, which is about a mile away and also in the gll group is so much better
The class was okay, but nothing special. It was very repetitive and not that interesting. I only went to 2 classes and then never went back. I was just too busy at the time and didn't like it enough to make the effort.
I got a free trial session for myself and my boyfriend as I had done power plates at other places and wanted to keep doing it for as cheap as possible all around London. This place is a little difficult to find as it's in a shopping centre, but I arrived early and didn't really feel very welcome as I was a bit in the way - they don't have a separate waiting area so I was just sitting in the corner of the gym. Anyway when my boyfriend arrived we were able to start half an hour early as the trainer didn't have anyone else booked in for that slot. Although they have 4 power plate machines only the two of us were doing it so it was really personal training. The trainer was a little unfriendly and aloof but she was very good at showing us what to do and giving my boyfriend an alternative because he injured his shoulder. I would recommend it because it's small and personal and not intimidating at all.
A little difficult to find, but the friendliness and knowledgibility of the staff more than made up for this. I thoroughly enjoyed the powerplates session and as I was a little late having had trouble finding the place, I was given another full session. Its takes a bit of getting used to, but well worth it.
I don't think this is financially worth it although I only had one treatment and as recommended by them, you need to use the power plates regularly to see any result.
The place was a little tricky to find and a bit small actually but had four power plate machines which is all you are going for really. Bit nervous at first but the trainer put me at ease and it was a great experience. Definately recomend to try it
I have been working out at Studio A for over 20 years. They have many wonderful interesting dance and workout classes for all ages. In September a very pleasant, ambitious young man started a basic training class which is 5 days a week ( Mon. - Fri.) at 7:00 am. I have worked out my whole life and thought I was in good shape until I took Matt's class. I could barely walk after 2 days. I kept on going back and now I am addicted to his workouts. I never felt this great and strong. If you have not tried Matt's classes you are missing out.
I actually did the Power Plate session. The staff were friendly and the session itself was really good, I came away feeling really good.
It was really good, I would definitely recommend it.
Great experience - a slightly wierd sensation at first. Boy did I feel all of my muscles in my legs, tummy and arms! And all for 25 minutes! The instructor was really encouraging and informative.
Highly recommended.
The instructor is great. The drop of lotion needed for the class should really be included in the price. It's not really a course but more drop in classes as the people seem to change very week and have varying degrees of experience.
Splash Beauty & Lifestyle Studio is a dedicated pole dancing studio. There's about 15 poles so every lady gets one. Great deal at a great price. It is so much fun and really good exercise. The teacher is really good and teaches really well. All the girls have so much fun! Changing rooms are limited but I would do it again!
To be honest, a powerplate workout was something different from what I had expected. I thought the vibrating plate would challenge stability during a workout, but it appears to be similar to those muscle-stimulating devices (with electronic stim pads) which gives an overall vibration to the body. I must say, that Brian - instructor at the Powertone studio in Chelsea - was very professional and friendly and had devised an overall good and diverse workout. However, I am not sure if I would be back as I developed a headache after the trial session. Otherwise, if you are familiar with the power plate workout and know it is for you, I would highly recommend Brian at the Chelsea studio. Very professional and efficient at bookings/communication too!
The boutique, private studio setting and state-of-the-art equipment set this gym experience apart from others. The sessions are well planned, varied and rewarding, and Rebecca excels as a personal trainer, both in terms of technical expertise and delivery style.
A quality service in every way, and I recommend without hesitation.
Thanks Rebecca!
I have never tried these machines before, so took the opportunity to check it out with the Wahanda deal. Session felt quite good. Though I think 30 mins was a bit short and didn't feel like I had worked out enough. Also if you lie on the vibrating plates, some people may feel nauseous. It did feel like I just stepped off a ship on the ocean! But definitely worth a go. Classes are about 4 people only, really small, which is great as the instructor can focus on everyone and make sure you are all doing everything correctly.
I was really pleased with my session at PowerTone. I'm trying to work out at the moment if I can afford a month's worth of sessions as the instructor was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. I have a back injury that continues to play up after 3 years, mentioned this to the instructor who'd actually noticed the way I move with it, and he has since emailed me a series of articles on strengthening the area using power plate. I hope to go back, largely based on his knowledge. The class itself is very hard work and I certainly felt the results over the next few days. Only thing that's letting Power Tone down is the high price.
Hadn't tried powerplate before so had a free trial session at powertone studios and loved it. The instructor was good - pushing each person to their own individual limits and the session was well balanced with different strength exercises. Apparently a 25-min powerplate session is the equivalent of 2 hrs in the gym and if that's true, then it's good value for money! I didn't ache the next day but that could well have been the high-intensity massage we had at the end of the session.
After a frustrating phone call with the receptionist on the general number who didn't seem to understand what I was saying nor know what I was talking about, I was a little anxious when I received a phone call directly from the Barbican studio, I needn't have worried. The Barbican studio receptionist was lovely, talked me through what I needed to know and knew exactly what Wahanda was.
I attended the session with a certain amount of trepidation and nervousness as it was my first time on the machines. The trainer was relaxed, very patient and good at answering questions. He knew his stuff when it came to the Powerplate and I felt like I was in good hands. He took me through all the steps and I came away a convert. Unexpectedly, I felt like I had a good workout and left me feeling rather keen on having another go!
Interesting experience. At the time I didn't feel like I work especially hard - but on leaving the studio, my legs were like jelly! And am slightly stiff and sore two-days later. Must do something! Would definitely try again.
i made the mistake of sighning up for a years membership. i like the fact its described as a health club as this is nowhere near the truth its dirty, mouldy, damp, tiles hanging lose from walls and ceiling.
i dont think they clean the steam room atall.
I purchased the voucher as I wanted to try out Pilates. I've heard a lot about Pilates but never got a chance to try it out as I have been told that it is important to find the right place and instructor that suits you & your body. Pilates is hard & I think I may go back to doing yoga again instead as that is what I am used to.
Helpful staff, cheery atmosphere. The system was explained fully to me by the trainer who put me through a full session, which was very enjoyable. She also checked my postures and advised me on how to get the best out of the machine. I would certainly go back.
Joined in June 2009. The place used to be clean and the changing rooms clean with an operating machine to buy shampoos and body lotions. There was always a cleaner in the changing rooms cleaning the facilities. Within three months no cleaner, no machine operating for 9 months to get lotions and potions, soapy cubicles to walk into, i found it totally disgusting and judging by others i spoke to they felt the same. Kids of under 15 allowed in the cubicles until people complained. Not very nice standing naked next to a 14 year old boy. Kids never used to be allowed in the weight changing area but they started letting them in if they were with parents or paying for a personnel instructor. Now male kids over the age of 8 are not allowed in female changing rooms. I still dont agree with that at all. In the weights room the men get off the running machines and striders and leave all sweat on the machines and then someone else has to go on and use it afterwards. You get chewing gum stuck in the parts of the machine that you are supposed to put your bottle of water. I joined in June and two weeks later got a shoulder injury due to the instructor giving me too heavy weights. I booked in with their physio and he never turned up for work so had to have his mate at my home address. Waste of money and he made my injury worse and then i had to deal with his wife cos he was touching me up. Since i have had treatment at Lister Hospital and am still not over the injury that i sustained over a year ago. I now go to a lovely gym at Hitchin that are a lot more experienced in giving ladies weight training. When i left i thought i had to give a months notice but it turned out to be two months notice. I had moved to Hitchin so said i would be back in Stevenage shortly and go and pay the remainder. They hassled me for the money by post to my old address even though i gave them my new address, phoning me, and then putting my account in hands of a solicitor. And adding another £50 on top. I have since settled with them and believe me i dont ever want to go back to that filth or hope nobody else joins and goes through what i have.
I went to this once or twice a week. Kat was doing classes 3 times a week. At the beginning of the month it was tough but at least there were 6 of us, all of differing fitness levels, to laugh about it. Kat changes exercises quickly so you don't get bored (you do get exhausted). We do everything from running to bench presses, to games and boxing. By the end of the month it was easy to see the difference in fitness of all of us. It was also great to be outside in the park at your lunch break.
Definitely worth it.
Equinox is the best gym in Dallas... Unfortunately, the membership is probably the most expensive in Dallas and I think they are about 2x more expensive than any other gym in the market. They have great classes, best in class cardio machines and flatscreens to help make your runs less miserable, and the facilities are great. There is a lap pool which really helps my cross training. Overall, I think the place is worth the extra money... They also have a spa but I haven't used it.
After a lumbar fusion 5 years ago and increasingly sedentary work and travel my back was ceasing to support normal day-to-day activities, with agonising muscular pains developing from the slightest activities. Dan Roberts' article in "The Independent" painted a picture of a scientific assessment approach leading to a strength building (but not strenuous) exercise regime, and so I contacted Jeff Murray. His approach is exactly that and much more. Following observations and measurement he devised exercises that within three weeks have virtually eliminated my back pain and have rebuilt back stamina. Most importantly it's given me confidence of mobility without the risk of getting hurt, and, having finished my on-to-one sessions with Jeff I now have an excellent ongoing back exercise routine. I'm working on persuading my wife to take a similar assessment and course.
The staff Malissa receptionist who is fat, and Dominican was very nasty ,and had my membership revoked. I was a member for years, and she told cops I was harrasinng the security Ronnie who's a bird watcher in the steam room ,and in the showers, and he kept provoking me by gossiping to his friends, and other members that I like to walk arounf naked when Iam trying to change my clothing the guy is sick ,and has issues stay away from the club. They said these are the rules. I had a goood deal, but had to give it up,and join a better gym with friendly staff . I sued them, but they were bankrupt
I attended LFD for the first time about 1 1/2 years ago, and my life has never been the same. I was invited for the first time by a friend at my church, so I decided to go out and give it a try. I've been going ever since. I was regularly using my inhaler for my asthma before attending LFD and within a very short period of time, found myself not even needing it anymore. I have obviously lost weight and gotten in shape because of the group, but I think the highlight of LFD is the comaraderie and friendship that is built between everyone that attends. It is so much more fun and motivating to work out with other people. You push yourself further than you would normally go and you find great strength in doing things together. The instructors are great at making sure everyone gets a good workout whether an individual is a first-timer who isn't in very good shape or someone who has been exercising for a long time. You will get a great workout, and it'll be an amazing experience that you'll want to continue for a long time.
This gym is located in the heart of the city and offers fantastic facilities.
Located close to Bank, Cannon Street and Moorgate stations. Various membership packages, with extensive benefits and privileges are available.
The gym is a fully equipped with powerplate, gravity machine, cardio and weights.
There are less members per square foot than any other gym in the square mile which gives it a personal feel. There is also a bar/restaurant area in which to relax after your workout.

I started coming to LFD bootcamp in the spring of 2009, and was truly unable to run over a 1/2 mile at a time. At the time, I probably could only keep up with about 50% of the rest of the workout, too. I've stuck to it for almost a year and a half, and all I can say is - WOW! Not only can I keep up with the rest of the group, I love showing up for the camaraderie (and, I've got a couple of 1/2 marathons and a sprint triathlon under my belt so far!). This is not an in-your-face, drop-and-give-me-another- 50-pushups scene. It's a rigorous workout with a great deal of encouragement and enthusiasm throughout the hour. I feel great at the end of our early morning workout, and I'm ready to face the day! I'd recommend the LFD bootcamp for those who are fit and looking for a great group environment, as well as for beginners who are ready to get started on getting fit. Hey - if I can do it, so can you!
This was my first ever venture into the world of boot camps. I had no expectations going in, but came away thrilled. The instructors were knowlegeable and motivating. They pushed me beyond what I thought my limits to be and helped me achieve my goals. In four months, I lost 15 pounds (probably more lbs. in fat...but I added muscle) and two sizes in my waist. I highly recommend to anyone serious about their physical conditioning and overall cardiovascular health.
I have been doing the program at Get In Shape for Women for 3 weeks now - and I am going 3x a week. I love the trainers - they are so suportive and can tweak the workouts to help me reach my goals. The strength portion of the program is great. I really feel stronger and more toned already. The cardio portion is hard but effective, and that is why I'm going! All the equipment is brand new and works really well. The nutritional aspect can be hard to stick with, as with any new eating plan, but I am doing my best. I have lost weight and am feeling great - many of my aches and pains have gone away and I feel super energetic. I am just having a great overall experience at this gym!
I have always used low-price fitness companies and was always satisfied but here are the reasons for NOT signing up here (I am a member until my contracts ends):
1. They have to few training facilities
2. They don't have free barbells at all
3. They need ages to repair a broken equipment (WEEKS!)
4. If you for once forget your training shoes and want to use sandals exceptionally you get kicked out from the gym even when you try to explain the situation and another trainer has agreed already.
5. Opening times are bad in my opinion.
Believe me I have long experience with low-budget training but never had that experiences.
I love the atmosphere given that there are so many different people that chose to work out there. There is no stress to hurry up on any task as there are many options to chose from. My only concern is the staff. Many many times that i have gone since this gym opened i have felt less that welcomed when walking in the door. The staff spend countless minutes/hours standing behind the front desk talking and eating and sitting on top of counters. i go to the gym to work out, not make friends, however, it would be nice for the employees to actually look UP from their computer or stop the socializing enough to greet me with a direct eye contact and say hello. I usually stand there and wait holding my id card as they swipe it only to hand it back without even knowing where my hand is. i have brought hygiene issues to their concern also in the past which resulted in a snicker and nothing getting done. If you love working out on a judgment free zone, this is the place to go as i continue to have a membership. I post this in hopes that others that recognize the same things might start to speak up or make their presence known as i do.
A great way to mix up your gym routine. This strength/cardio combination class uses the ballet barre and really gets a muscles you wouldn't normally use... The teachers are all friendly and knowledgeable. Recent additions to the schedule make it easier to get into classes, and the addition of more levels of classes make it more targeted for the customers.
A super tough workout, but worth it! On the expensive side, esp if in addition to your normal gym, but I am still going back 1-2x / week so clearly I think it is worth it...
I have known Jeff for some 20 years initially as a personal trainer and more latterly as somebody who has helped me overcome various problems as I get older. He saw me through a major cancer operation 15 years ago to the point where I have subsequently run 8 marathons, climbed mountains (Kilimanjaro, Kinabalu, Sinai), completed major multiday walks around the world, including, Dead Sea to Petra, all the 8 major walks in New Zealand, Coast to Coast in England, Rift Valley in Kenya, Lyke Wake walk, Atlas Mountains in Morroco plus many many more. What impresses me and what I like about Ambition Fitness is that all the consultants work together to provide the correct remedial action to get the desired results. I am currently seeing Jeff and Toby, the osteopath, to help me overcome knee problems and get me ready to tackle one of the toughest walks in Europe, the GR20 in Corsica, in June. I am now nearly 67. I have no hestitation in recommending Ambition Fitness who are very professional and ensure they keep themselves up to date with latest techniques in the health and fitness industry.
Your club is always clean. The staff no matter who are always very friendly, but not to the point of distraction. You even have one who always says, hey what are you working out today. The lighting is very good, I also like the clocks. Its sad but sometimes I am really on a tight schedule. Most important to me is I haven't really ever waited on a machine. If one is being used I go to another one maybe even for a different body part, but I think its good to change up my routine, and last but to me very important is someone always tries to say see you later when I leave. A really very good experience overall.
Profesional staff, helping me a lot get the strenght back after injury
This is a modern gym - but there are not many machines. All the money has been spent on the ladies with lots of vibrating powerplate machines but at the expense of basic equipment for the boys like bicep curl or abdominal crunch machines.
If you are a young lad who wants to get some muscles this def isn’t the gym for you!
I have been a member of Virgin Active for over 5 years. I have always enjoyed going to the gym and do so regularly to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The staff is courteous and helpful. However, a lot of the equipment has not been replaced in some time and does not function properly (tread mills). The steam room is old and has not been refurbished in many years. For what you pay to use the facilities it is lacking in terms of offering a truly premium service.
Hi, a team of 4 friends decided to join Virgin Active Fulham, primarily to use the pool.
However we have found the yoga classes to be very good and worth recommending.
I did find the place rather soleless and the staff seemed rather...sluggish... but the yoga teacher was lovely - the methods used were comparative but not extensive.
By far our absolute thumbs down has to be to the Virgin Active Fulham's Steam Room - it's much, much too cold compared with the Porchester Spa, which is the correct temperature.
I sometimes go to the third space with my wife who is a member... and I have to say I really like it. I am not much of a gym guy but the facilities are great (they seem to do EVERYTHING) and there is a good vibe. They play great music and I like the way you can pop into the Fresh and Wild after your workout for a fresh juice and some healthy food.
My only complaints are that it can get really crowded in the morning and evenings, and some of the facilities are a bit cute, for instance, it does have a climbing wall but its not particularly big if you are into your climbing. Finally, the cost -- it ain't cheap. The facilities and classes look great but it might be a bit too steep for many people. Personally, I only go to gym's occasionally and so can't justify the cost.
To me The Virgin Active in Notting Hill looked pretty impressive from the outside, but it didn't managed to meet those high expectations. It felt like the cardio-machines were overrepresented compared to the hidden and quite small free weight area. This is definitely not a gym I would turn to if I were a hardcore builder, but then again, I figured that isn't really Virgin Actives main targets either. Though if you are a stressed out 35-years-old-father-of-two who are just looking to do do some cardio workout and occasionally participate in one of the many group exercises on offer, this is probably a good choice for you.
I have been coming to this location of Virgin Active for almost 10 years, back when it was Holmes Place.
Same location, same basic facilities and it does the job. I tro to go the Body Pump class here at least 2-3x week in the evenings because the instructors are fantastic.
I have also tried the Power Plates instructor-led classes which are amazing I think. Great workout
The only two downsides of this gym (and other Virgin Actives) are:
1) the air conditioning NEVER works, not in 10 years has it worked - therefore, the studios for the Body Pump classes are so hot, and unbearable so in the summer. The classes can get busy, so this really is not ideal
2) The front desk only give you ONE towel...so, if you use a towel during your workout...guess what, you need to use that same sweaty, dirty towel to shower, or you can pay £1 to £2 for a "fresh" towel...man, they are cheap! They used to give you a small towel, and a shower towel...you would think that given the high membership fees they could sort this out.
But, the location is convenient, so I keep going
The Virgin Active staff all welcomed me with a friendly face and a smile, something which is always nice when you come to sweat off a hard days work at the gym. The facilities are all super-tidy and fresh, and there is a wide range of different studio classes to participate in (should one want to do that). Though myself being a bit of individualist when it comes to training, would had preferred a bit larger share of free weights. Something which I particularly noticed was the lack of an proper inclined bench for abdominal workout. It wouldn't hurt either if they'd got some proper boxing bags outside the studio. Had the price for membership been a bit lower I wouldn't be complaining over such things, but seeing how they charge you pretty much, I believe these amenities should exist.
