Strike the right chord. Only when all of your body parts are singing from the same hymn sheet will you be able to compose a masterpiece of inner harmony. Using Tibetan Singing Bowls, sound massage fine-tunes your muscles to create a deep sense of relaxation that will help de-stress your mind and body.

How it works

Based on the theory that vibrations free up any negative energy that’s been stored up around the body, this type of massage uses sound waves to produce gentle rhythmic pulsations. These baby beats then massage each individual cell, working out any stored up tension that’s been lurking there.

To generate the sound, your therapist will use one or more Tibetan singing bowls. Made from at least seven different metals which all correspond to various planets, your every day mixing bowl just won’t cut it. Placed directly onto your fully-clothed body, your therapist will then begin to rhythmically tap the bowls with a felt mallet, on average every ten seconds, to create a soothing sound and soft vibration.

It’s not unheard of at this point for recipients to experience a light, trance-like state, comparable only to other forms of meditation. And although the bowls are positioned directly onto your body, because they’re only struck very lightly, it doesn’t affect your ability to switch off and relax. With no undressing, no oils and no sweating, this has to be one of the easiest treatments to slip in en route to the office.

Is it for me?

It’s claimed that with regular treatments, sound massage will help you achieve higher levels of energy, better sleep and increased creativity. Practitioners also believe that disease only rears its ugly head when your body suffers from a disharmony of cells, so by drumming up some good vibrations, the cells can be moved back into their harmonious state, eliminating disease.

Everyone can try out sound massage including children, mums-to-be and buss-pass holders as each treatment is tailor-made. The therapy has even been recommended for sufferers of autism, ADD (attention deficit disorder) and other learning difficulties, as well as more common ailments including headaches, migraines, lack of energy, joint pains, digestive problems, back pain, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem.

Sound massage dates back to more than 3000 years ago where it was predominantly used in India and the Himalayas for healing purposes.
