Went for my first pilates reformer class and it was great. The Instructor was really friendly, teaching us the basics. I chose an off peak session which meant there was only 3 of us in the class. Brilliant! Can't wait to try the intermediate class next. Would definitely recommend it!
The studio was clean, light and airy. The ambience was relaxed. The pilates instructor paid individual attention to everyone in the class and ensured that we were all aligned correctly and not overdoing any of the stretches. Being new to pilates, I found this incredibly helpful. I would definitely recommend this pilates studio and the instructors here.
A great spot just on the High Street so you can pop into the shops or cafes prior or post a treatment or exercise class. Nice staff and great classes.
Good location, easy to find, very good facilities & friendly staff. I really enjoyed the class and will definitely go back. Eventhough the group was bigger than some other classes I attended elsewhere the teacher was still able to give attention and help when needed. Can highly recommend!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this trial and found Sharon's instruction to be clear, attentive and supportive. I appreciated the balance struck between the relaying of safe and sound technique, correct breathing and dynamic workout, which felt worthwhile. I will certainly be returning to Sharon's classes in the future.
This has absolutely nothing in common with Pilates.
I purchased a 10 class pass and attended classes of different teachers, but none of them teached Pilates.
Their concept is more like some fitness work out, which you could get at the local gym class, but for a fraction of the price.
Label your fitness classes as 'Pilates', and charge three times as much!
Lovely venue with big windows and a friendly atmosphere. Small classes. Great teachers so far! I have been twice now and have more classes booked, they do a great range of times from early morning so I can go on my way to work.
The studio is very light and airy, it is intimate so feels like a relaxing haven. The teacher was very thorough and concentrated on correct pilates breathing. The class was fum and challenging, I left feeling energised and relaxed and was aching the next day! There is only one loo and one shower (very nice though!) but the class sizes are limited so shouldn't be a problem. The only thing that would prevent me from making this my regular class is the price, The cheapest option (when booking a block of classes) only takes the price down to £18 when I can get a class for £14/£15 I would generally opt for that.
Went to Birmingham for work. Me and a colleague went after work - nice gym (especially the club style facility) paid a little extra for a zumba class but it was worth it. I would recommend for weekend experience - there is just so much to do there
Facilites are great, I would say above avarage and stuff are friendly and helpful. It does not get too crowded which is always great. (but depends on the time) I would recommend if the location suits. Classes are alright
Right next to Angel station, so location is great. The room has a weird shape but you can still see the teacher. Changing rooms are too small. I would recommend the lesson.
The facilities were clean, but not too much space in the changing room. The classes aren't too big and the trainers give individual attention as and when it is needed. I enjoyed my taste of pilates, my first ever classes.
Lovely trainer, very pleasant, patient and encouraging I think I was very fortunate to go on a quiet day as there were only two of us to train so more one on one time. This was a good general introduction to reformer pilates as I had never done it before. The facilities were spacious and clean and well located opposite Angel tube. I would recommend, especially as the trainer made time to discuss my specific needs at the end of the class and it was free! No better way to discover if pilates could be just right for you.
This was my first time doing pilates class and I really enjoyed my experience at Pilates HQ. We were in a small group and the teacher was focussing a lot on the techniques for beginners. This is a really good value for money and I will come back again.
great fun, we really liked it here. the free Wahanda session was a bonus. would prefer some more offers or deals to buy more sessions. will definitely stick at pilates. good location too
Facilites are great, above avarage and stuff are friendly and helpful. It does not get too crowded which is always great. I would recommend if the location suits. Classes are alright.
I've selected Pilates because the option of Flexibility classes was not available. The trainer was fantastic, very motivational and of a calm and gentle manner. I used the gym prior to the classes and it really helped to stretch my muscles and as a reult I felt far less sore afterwards. I can highly recommend this class following an exercise session or on its own to help improve flexibility.
I've done a few pilates sessions before, but I would still consider myself a beginner. I really enjoyed my experience at Pilates HQ. The classes are small, so I felt that the instructor spent quality time with everyone ensuring that the correct technique was used. I felt that I had a good workout (especially inner thighs) and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend and will be back. Plus, with the free taster, it's amazing value.
This is a great venue in a great location. It's clean and airy and the instructors are really friendly and clear. It's an amazing workout too - more like a gymn workout because of all the resistance, but an hour well-spent!
The evening classes around 6-7pm tend to get booked up several days in advance.
I cannot rate this venue enough and I have since returned several times. The trainers are helpful and understanding if you are a beginner and focus on slow but efective movement rather than fast paced, cardio workouts that other nearby resistance workouts seem to favour! You still feel like you have had a proper workout and the venue is airy and clean.
Always enjoy going to Pilates HQ, feel like i'm doing my body good! Much better then your normal mat pilates. Staff are friendly and the facilities are great - only negative comment is the size of the changing rooms - quite small. I'll keeping a look out for more offers for summer!
A year ago I was a complete beginner to pilates, but thought I would try it for a little while until I got over a runing injury. Now I'm addicted! The classes are fun but challenging and I have seen improvements in my posture and fitness. The attention to detail and motivation by the instructors is excellent and I progrssed from beginner to intermediate level. I have tried a couple of other Pilates classes but this is by far and away the best, and the location 2 minutes from London Bridge Station is handy too.
It is a good deal, good location, good facilities and more often than not good teachers. I sometimes feel I am pushed up to my limit while everyone else seems to know what they are doing....
Its a nice venue to do pilates. It's clean, there is a changing room and product to clean the machines.
A very helpful staff.
It's wortheet to go there to get stronger muscles and to keep fit especially by using the machines.
I would advice anyone to go there at least once to try.
Steve Jordan Pilates is by far and away the best Pilates class in town for all sorts of reasons! The teachers are excellent, striking the right balance between rehabilitation and real progress on fitness levels. Class sizes are small and everyone gets individual attention and correction throughout on mat and machine from beginner to reformer - an absolute must when dealing with injuries which also helps confidence levels for those returning to exercise after prolonged absences. Add to that its convenient location just minutes from London Bridge and Borough tube stations and its pleasant studio and it's a fun and healthy hour waiting to happen!
This is by far the best pilates class I have found. The instructors are lovely, their anatomy knowledge is good, and due to small classes the attention given to you with every exercise means that you are sure to be pushed to your personal limit without allowing injury.
I am hypermobile and have found that these classes are perfect for strengthen my joints where my lax ligaments give weakness.
I work in a profession where I see how important core strength is in preventing musculoskeletal pain, and I would definitely recommend these classes to improve your core.
Great location and a very insightful class. I enjoyed it and would consider going again, mainly because the location is very convenient right across the street from Angel Tube. The facilities are clean and it is a well equipped gym.
I have recently started pilates at this studio to assist an injury [broken shoulder] .The progress I have made with movement on not just my shoulder, but my entire body is surprising and inspiring to say the least. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to keep the body and mind active.
Great pilates centre at a convenient location. I had 3 beginners classes with different instructors so the exercises taught were varied and challenging each time. The classes are small so they come over and correct you give you more attention which is good for a beginner like me. The 3 class deal was a great way to introduce me to the basics of pilates breathing/ posture and using the reformer machine. I think the centre is doing a 3 class 4 week deal at the moment at a discounted rate which is definitely worth booking otherwise classes can be quite pricey.
I've tried Pilates in different facilities in London, but this is by far my favourite.
What I appreciated the most was the individual approach.
There were max. of 3 ladies and the instructor corrected all the bad moves and made sure you get max. from your exercise.
It was really great
Much nicer atmosphere than many fitness clubs - not quite so frenetic, hot and sweaty in the machine areas. Could have done with more warm-up space as I ended up in a cooll corridor when most mats were taken. Sadly the Pilates class I diid was too easy a level for me and they don't seem to do anything more intermediate, or at least, not when I can go. But worth a try if you're looking for a gym in the area.
I enjoyed the class, and thought it was a refreshing change for my regular pilates routine, It was a bit less of a hard training though, although that may be because it was a beginners class.
Pilates HQ is a wonderful studio: bright, airy and most importantly, equipped with excellent (new) reformer tables and highly trained instructors. I've tried a variety of classes and teachers and have never been disappointed.
Really enjoyed the session, got two more to go and looking forward to get the most of out of it. It's a great feeling to have had a good session and your muscles thank you as well.
It a nice clear room with mirrors and clean machine. Each machine are cleaned by each individual who use them.
The trainer is nice. She explains slowly what to do and assist us with the machine when we are not used to. She shows us the movement needed to be done. It's a good session and the machine help a lot to get our muscle stronger.
It's wortheet doing pilate session with machine. I recommand it.
Nice people and easy to book, however the classes are really limited and the instructors are variable. I was meant to be at powerhouse pilates that rotated around different apparatus, but this didn't happen, and the one class with a good teacher is no longer running. I wouldn't go back.
Ten Pilates Notting Hill is fantastic ! Two large, airy studios for the group classes, using Reformer beds. The studio, reception, loos and changing rooms are clean, stylish, smell wonderfully of eucalyptus, and are looked after beautifully. The music is loud and modern and really keeps you going ! The machines are all well maintained and in perfect working order - I just wish they were Pro-former beds ! The best thing about Ten Pilates is the instructors - they are just amazing. Interested, friendly, open, outgoing, chatty, professional, totally loving what they are doing, careful, touchy-feely- and very hands-on to help you get the exercises right. The actual location of Ten Pilates in Notting Hill is probably the only downside - Barlby Road is not near a tube station, but you can get a bus quite close by if you don't live or work in this area of Notting Hill (North). There's nothing else around - no cafes, parks, etc. etc., - so I tend to come in and get out again pretty much immediately. If you want to start doing dynamic pilates THIS is the place to do it - you will be taught carefully and well, and it won't hurt TOO much the following day. Once you have the hang of it, there's not much point in doing Intermediate classes, I find, as they are a bit too easy. Stick to Advanced classes and you'll be thanking your lucky stars you discovered Ten Pilates ! It makes your muscles long, lean and strong, and really strengthens the core.
It was the fist time I attended Pilates classes and I really enjoyed it! I signed up for the beginners' classes and the work out was fairly itensive but not too much for a rookie. The instructor was really good, explaining the excercises and being quite explicit about how to use the pilates machine. Overall, very positive experience
Facilities are kept clean and tidy and staff are nice and willing to answer any of your questions.
I enjoyed my pilates classes. I got a voucher form my friend. It was good experioence. And I would recommend the class to anyone.
it was very intensive and very worth it given it was free by wahanda, have helped me to reduce stress too. i will go back to the studio to take up pilates lessons
Lovely place, great staff, I needed all the motivation that god could have given me to make a regular effort in exercise. Thanks to the good advice and constant motivation of (Mel - my trainer) that I keep going. I also participate in the fusion group fitness classes that are great fun and physically demanding. I am doing 3 sessions of per week but planning to increase it to 4 sessions. My husband has also joined last week and enjoying too. Thank you to all the staff at the studio.
I was very happy with the whole experience and hope to continue the classes when I can afford them. Hopefully they will do more offers.
One criticism. On both occasions the floor area under the machines was dusty and had hair strands on it which wasnt very plesant but I am probably being overly critical. My advice is to make sure the cleaner doesnt miss this area.
But other than that all was great and will return.
The deal was fantastic and I wanted to know if I fancied joining this gym so I gave it a go. The gym is quite small and busy but I had no problems booking into classes. They have loads of classes on at convenient times which was great. The body pump was particularly good. Overall I found the classes were a bit too full/not enough room and also too short - 45 minutes standard which isn't enough for a good warm up and stretch in my opinion, so I won't be joining up but a good experience overall.
I wish I was doing pilates more often. The islington pilates are good. I sometimes find it harder than other places sometimes but I guess that is what keeps one motivated. The only drawback for me are the changing rooms.
I loved the class, the instructor and the locaiton - cant really get that much better. everything worked for me from the welcoming surrounding and close proximity to the tube station as well as the pilates training itself. this kind of pilates is a little more resitance-based and I can only recommend it very highly.
Great space, very individual work out as there is a very limited number of spaces. The workout is very, very good. It worked muscles I never knew I had! The instructor was very kind and patient and explained each exercise very clearly.
Facilities are really good and class sizes were perfect to get personalised tips and guidance. Staff and instructors were very friendly and motivating. Highly recommend it. Both beginners and intermediate classes were challenging and instructors were clear on the different levels.
Great location just up from Angel tube station. The receptionist was friendly and the change rooms clean and nice. There are only 2 showers. The instructor was knowledgable but I found her hard to understand sometimes due to her accent and she was moving around the room so sometimes was hard to hear her (not her fault at all but just saying). The pilates on the machine is quite hard and it was my very first time so I found it difficult.
Me and my friend have experimented several pilates classes in various locations and I must admit this one is one of the top 5. Good teacher and good facilites, nevertheless extremely small changing room, overcrowding causes delay etc. I would recommend.
Excellent teaher and piates session. Happened upon a great offer and I am extremely satisfied with the results and I would recmmend this place to others. Location is ideal. Stuff is very friendly. i also though the booking was considerably easy and flexible compared to some other Wahanda offers. i would pay the full price.
Hi,
I had two weeks free access to Fitness first and had to choose just one center. I choose Brixton as I lived near.
The first day I arrived to a classes and the instructor did no come. I left asking the reception guy that i will be back the day after for the Zumba classes and asked him if that will no be cancel as the previous one, he said no it will be fine.
I came back the day after and they cancel that class during the night, took it off from the center but not from the website. The day after I go back and try again and they say to me that they don't have any locker available :-/ I abondonate. Inside is very small and not really attractive so I never came back again. So I lost time and money. I wish I could have chosen another center.
Not the fault of Wahanda and I guess the brixton center is like that because there is not a lot of people, I don't know.
lovely place fantastic facilities would definately go again .staff were very professional nothing was to much trouble made you feel at ease layout of the club was a bonus a really enjoyable experience
It was good but not willing to pay more for it.The pilate session in itself was good and the trainer was very friendly so it was worth the time.I did enjoy myself and so did my friends so may be in near future i would be going back to visit it again ! great location i must say x
I usually go to the sister studio, Little Venice Pilates, but once or twice I have been with a friend to Holland Park Pilates. It is an equally beautiful and relaxing place but with more intimacy. Reinhard is director of both studios and at Holland Park you get his full attention. He really gives the most and you get the most thorough workout you can imagine, really tailored to your needs. The one to one option in such an intimate studio is great for the celebs, but there is also a twosome option with or without a friend and that makes top rate service affordable. I go with a friend and it still feels like you are getting one to one attention and care.
The studio is small but nice.Located very close to the tube which is very convenient. As the classes are quite small it would be nice to receive a bit of personal attention from instructors, especially for beginners.
Very relaxing and theraputic work out. I am usually a yoga person but this was a great first experience for a pilates lesson and good central London location. Will definitely think about signing up for more.
I only went to one of my free sessions - it was a good experience but I would only call it good value for being free... it didn't inspire me enough to want to come back.
Really nice place. Pilates are definitely a good excercise and I am thinking of joining as a member so I can keep going. Everyone was super friendly and I was comfortabel there. I was sore from the work out which is good.
It ois for sure very nice location / venue with very helpful and professional stuff.Clean and recommendable . maybe price for regular usage a bit to high but otherwise nothing to complain
My experience at Pilateshq was really good. The teacher was really focused on correcting us and getting us in the right position. The fact that there is a limit of people (8) is really good as everybody gets attention and feedback. The changing room is a bit small but it is all nice and tidy.
I tried the one free lesson at Pilates HQ as it was my first pilates experience and I am really glad to have tried it! The trainer was incredibly helpful, attentive and easy to follow. She ensured everyone was comfortable and safe and following her instructions correctly. The studio is large enough and bright, which is a great atmosphere to be in. However, the price of £25 for a drop-in session is a little steep in my opinion which may prevent me from visiting again.
I had any kind of service and it's poor, cheap, always late or classes are cancelled, disgusting showers and swimming pool....I complained till I could now I'll get my membership cenceled. I rather be fat than catch a desease! People bring your money somewhere else!
I absolutely love the location, the changing rooms are not too nice, the pilates facilities are great. One may not get visibility of what the teacher shows and some of the things were new to me, but I would recommend it.
Clean and airy studio with plenty of light. Slightly dissatisfied with the tutor and her instruction. I didn't feel that she was always connected with the class and found her to be quite robotic and not as hands on as I would have liked.
Was a great session, and even better as my taster session was free. It's a bit expensive though you can see why - its a nice place and it really works you out!
The studio is also easy to find and is very welcoming. Definately worth it to try.

A great place with fantastic facilities; state of the art equipment and very qualified instructors
Very easy to find
they have many classes and tailor to individual fitness level and also desired results eg sculpting or slimming
would recommend this highly!
Great location, great friendly staff. I especially found Caroline's Yoga class amazing! She is great. also Zsuzi's spin class is hard core too. It's a small location but has everything. I would seriously think about becoming a member if more Yoga and Spin classes were on offer.
This was ok, i didnt really think pilates was for me so when it was on offer in my area i thought it was a good chance to give it a go. I found it very slow as i used to high energy exercise but i suppose thats the point!
It is good, very good value for money and the ambience was nice. The instructor was also very nice and and the location is perfect being very close to the angel tube station.
even though the entrance is on the main road it is a hidden gem. I walk past there all the time and never noticed this place. But anyway when you get inside the building it is soooo nice the appearance is lush and quite modern. The receptionist was really friendly also the instructor. It was a good first time experience.
Slightly intimidated by the prospect of using a 'machine' with straps and a sliding platform, my fears were swiftly put to rest by the friendly receptionist who made me sign some sort of 'waiver' saying that I would not sue if I fell and hit my head.. Was I likely to fall and hit my head?
The changing room was adequate- though if there were more than two people in there at anyone time you might struggle for a little privacy. There weren't any lockers to keep your things safe. Though I had come only with the bare essentials - a sundress to cover my leggings and vest top. Some, more advanced, members of the class seemed to have gone to great efforts in their pursuit for sleek apparel.
The teacher was lively, which was reassuring. She gently guided us through the motions - giving clear and concise instructions on what colour rings should be 'on' and how we should be positioning our bodies. Where possible she demonstrated the movements and went through the class adjusting hips and arms, so that we could get the full benefit of the stretches.
By the end of the class, I felt surprising energetic and non-achy, I did resolve to go back but have not as yet made it. The benefits are obvious: more slim-lined and leaner muscles and in contrast to pounding the streets, or running on a treadmill and lifting weights it seems like a doodle. I suppose, the only draw back is the cost. When I have learnt to stop spending money on an excess of cosmetics and every so-called development in anti-ageing, skin-plumping skincare I may return.
The actual session was great - really nice trainer and state of the art machines - reformer pilates. The changing rooms are tiny tiny though and mixed with the guys which is unusual. It is above a bank in Angel with just one room for the machines so a prime location, so i understand why the changing rooms are tiny but still!
Was a great session, felt really supported as hadnt used the machines before. Was good value as my taster session was free - but would not pay £20 a session for the classes - if you have a lot of money I guess it might be worth it as it was a nice place!
Friendly and welcoming - would go back if I had the money!!
A great place with fantastic facilities; state of the art equipment and very qualified instructors
Very easy to find
they have many classes and tailor to individual fitness level and also desired results eg sculpting or slimming
would recommend this highly!
I really like Pilates on the reformer machines and some of the teachers at Pilates HQ are really good - you can definitely feel it the next day (or when you attempt to walk down the flour flights of stairs!!). Will definitely be going back next time there is an offer on.
Great class! The facilities were suitable and teacher was fantastic, very knowledgable. The class was small enough for her to assist everyone. I got this class for free with wahanda but I believe it's normally 25 pounds which I think to be incorporated as a regular activity the price should be lowered! Other than that I cannot fault this!!
I love Tempopilates! A small friendly team create a relaxed atmosphere in this stylish studio. The atmosphere may be relaxed but the pilates is serious. The workouts are hard but there is a sense of fun that keeps you motivated. Then of course imperative to most of us the results that follow - flatter stomach, slimmer thighs, no more bingo wings - amazing. The constantly updated playlist is great and gives you something to focus on when holding the same posture for a while. Give it a go but beware Tempopilates is seriously addictive. I can’t wait to try out the new Covent Garden Studio.
I found the staff very welcoming upon my visit, they directed me to the class without hesitation. I found the class enjoyable, and covered all areas of the body and it was well run. Thank you.
I like the location, nice studio with natural light and we were only 3 of us in the class so we had a full attention of an instructor who was very god. But the price for one session is expensive so better value is to buy more classes :-)
Good location as it is close to everything, class was not bad. I would go again but the per class price is a little crazy!! I think the package prices are much better value so go for that if you like the class
The location of the place is great. The class depends on the teacher, but it is generally really cool. The only think I never enjoy about these places is the changing rooms, sometimes unexsistant. But the class is worth changing with 10 other girls in in 1/1 room.
Pilates HQ was a great venue - right by angel station. The class size was great, with a small class of 9 people. I had never done reformer pilates before but the instructor explained everything very well and was very clear with instructions. The next day my muscles (even the one I didn't really know I had!) all felt like they had been worked out thoroughly. i enjoyed it so much I bought extra classes and have continued to do it since.
Small but well-equipped gym with a good selection of classes at good times.
Great staff - very friendly and helpful.
Pilates and LBT classes were amazing. Very tough.
I found the yoga a little tame and not really worth my while.
The studio is conveniently situated just opposite Angel tube station. Its quite small but the staff are really friendly and its cosy. The pilates lesson was taught by Hollie who was great and I really enjoyed the session. Obviously to utilise the session you need to go more but by trying this out you get the chance to work out if you like it or not. Definatetly use them again!
I absolutely love visiting Pilates HQ, if the classes weren't so expensive I would go every week! My most recent class was with Keziah and she was very friendly and helpful. The facilities are always in tip top condition and the classes are challenging and different. The deal I purchased was 3 classes for £25 which is a great deal considering they are usually £20+ each. You are able to book classes online thru their website which makes finding classes super easy. I would recommend Pilates HQ to anyone looking for a new sort of workout!
Fantastic first trial of the reformers pilates, was easy to follow and I felt great afterwards and was not too sore the next couple of days! The studio was very clean and tidy and professional, I will be back!
Free pilates lession was professional, a good first inpression, it was close to my place which is good in the evenings, I didnt need to take the tube back home
Great introduction to pilates , and use of reformers. Reasonable teacher to member ratio but could be better with a smaller class . Close to home so will try again
Class instructors were great, enjoyed every minute.
Changing rooms and showers were nice and clean.
Great range of gym equipment and space to work out in.
Only negative is the initial 45 minute consultation about membership prices which made us miss our first class.
Thermal Baths should have been listed under treatments. I did not get a chance to give it another 5 stars! It The place is amazing! immaculately clean, excellent excellent HEALTHY food, friendly staff, great treatments, etc. It had everything that I hoped for and more. Definitely was worth my long trip from the USA. Just make sure you let Eylem (the manager) know what you want to get out of Natur-Med. They all work hard to make sure your stay is enjoyable and and a healthy one too!
Room is an odd shape and you should get there early to secure a bed where you can more easily see the instrucit but the instructor was great and I've since gone back and booked a series of 10 classes.
Having never done Pilates before, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really enjoyed my trial session. The venue was easy to find, the toilets/shower area were lovely and clean and both the girls working there were friendly and helpful. The class itself was really good, I really liked the added resistance of the reformer machine and the various options for the moves. I think the classes are a tad out of my price budget but I will be keeping my eye out for any other offers/deal etc as I thought it was great!
I started going to Ten Pilates on weekends and have been really enjoying it. I am a complete beginner but the classes are not too crowded and the instructors are very good and take the time to give you some personal advice. If you buy a pack of classes its pretty cost effective too.
The location itself is super convenient and very central in an area (St. James's) where there are not that many Pilates options. The only downside is that its in a basement and has no natural light. That being said, they have done a great job with the space and it feels clean and airy.
All said, I would definitely recommend.
I have been going to Holland Park Pilates for a year now and really enjoy it. Every time I go I learn something new, the classes are varied and I am really challenged every session. Reinhard is a very attentive, particular teacher, making sure I do the exercises correctly. Some of the exercises I do on the reformer are very hard but I always feel safe and I know I would not hurt myself in Reinhard's studio.
I love this studio. You get treated in a really friendly and courteous way. It is relaxed and everyone is approachable. I initially went for Pilates sessions whilst on my regular business trips to London. There is a really cost effective way of getting virutally one to one sessions, you can have a two to one session, affordable and you get the benefit of feeling you are being indivdually trained. On one visit I was training in the studio, whilst a very famous actress was working out, and on another occassion I saw a star of the Royal Ballet in reception. There is a lovely garden too, nice on a sunny day. I also had massage with two different therapists, Bryan ( a warm, giving and very humourous Australian), and Dan who really dealt with some problem knotty muscles. I love this place, it is not stuffy or unapproachable, and yet it is really professional and caring.
My partner and I got this deal to see if we could keep up a gym routine and it was perfect to try out this gym and some classes we'd never tried before. The gym itself is typical, cramped, with lots of people, and the classes are in a tiny room with only about 10-12 participants max. On second thought, that is actually an advantage as you get the trainer looking after you more. Pilates was great, relaxing and I found myself breathing more and deeper also outside the class...
been member for more than 8 years i have never seen they spend any money on club refreb oh shower is cleaner in hostels
all good equipment not high tec but ok after all this is Holmes Place which just changed name
after hard work out in area with no air con for almost 3 month now you go to 1st floor steam and shower you cant get shower as it gose hot and cold all time you go to grand floor shower tiles are lose shower broken i have pesonaly spoken to sparky works there he told me i am just electrician i can not do all job this is holmes place come on maanager you need to do some thing
there is brand new gym will be open near by farringdon i can not wait for them to open so get away from this poorly manged club i have made lots of comment but the manager are always coming up with some thing the cafe area wooden floor was laied down when i moved to barbican flats at 1985 this need to be look at
The classes were very good but it was a mission to get passed reception. First of all no one at the reception knew what I was talking about when showed them the voucher. Then 3 different people asked me for my details and they all tried to get me in to signing up. Each time I visited the gym it was te same story. Also, it is not possible to book the classes, you need to turn up 30 min earlier to put your name in the list and then wait until the class starts. So if you still have any patience left when the class starts, at least these are good. But what an effort to just excercise!
I had a voucher for five classes at fitness first and it was very good value for money. The staff were friendly I enjoyed the classes and there was a good choice of different classes to chose from. After the classes I used the gym equipment plus, there was the sauna which I used also. If I had wanted to I could have stayed the whole day. The place is close to where I live so no problems in getting to the venue.
The gym was modernise and spacious. It was easy to find the venue because it was within walking distance. The instructor was approachable and friendly.I thoroughly enjoyed the session and would visit again
The studio in Notting Hill is reasonably sized. The atmosphere was serious yet still convivial.
The receptionist was very sweet and helpful.
My instructor struck the right balance between being mindful of everyones' personal abilties and knowledge and still remaining demanding and tough (in a good way). The class was thorough and moved at a good pace, still leaving room for advancement in each exercise.
It was good to hear constant instruction about correct breathing.
Though I enjoyed the class, I need a little less quad work and more focus core-stability and flexability, as a dancer.
It would, however, be excellent for the general public to tone up and increase strength.
The receptionist was very helpful, both over the phone when I made my appointment booking (easy-breezy) and once I arrived.
The studio and facilities were all very nicely presented though a little small. The issue I take with this isn't so much aesthetic, rather it prevented there being a greater range of equipment available for use (i.e. trapeze, thoracic barrell) than just the standard beds. Also it made full extension laterally difficult as one had to mind the person next to them.
This does have an upside, which is that the instructor is better able to see and attend to her full class.
The instructor was friendly, gave clear instructions both verbally and by demonstrating.
I would have prefered a little more attention placed on breathing and engagement of the transverse and oblique (deep inner layers) muscles groups, as this is paramount to pilates. The pace also seemed a little hasty.
Overall a good general-body workout. I would want something, for myself, more focused on core-strengthening.
I have been attending tempo pilates since Dec 10. I started from the very beginning, never ever done any form of core exercise so the task has been hard for me. I started out as a form of plankton on the machines but over the months gained confidence with encouragement from Daniel and Michael and now feel that I have gained a lot of core strength. I now see a difference physically and now attend twice a week. its fun doing it to music you find yourself hearing the songs when your not in class on the radio etc and know which exercise you normally do to that tune. takes all my might not to break into a quick routine when this happens!
I went on a single taster class and really enjoyed it, so when Wahanda had another deal on, I signed up immediately. I guess I feel £25/session is a bit too much, especially as I already have a gym membership but it is a tremendous workout in a great environment so for me its simply a case of going more often not being cost effective. Otherwise, would recommend it unreservedly
Danielle teaches classical Pilates on the reformer/Cadillac equipment in the heart of Marylebone.
She trained with no other than Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates' protege who popularised the traditional Pilates method.
Danielle is as passionate about technique as she is about Pilates' philosophy and approach. You learn so much in her sessions and you become more aware of your posture and how to use your muscles more efficiently.
I loved my session and felt taller, stronger and more confident.
I used the 5 classes offer for Pilates and a core class. The pilates classes were great (different timings/ teachers) and the teachers took time to correct each person. The core class was in the gym area itself and so a bit cramped. The instructor was OK but not really very friendly (however she seems to know a couple of the others in the class and was quite friendly with them).
The venue is very convinient and has some great facilities like Steam room and Sauna, and nice roomy changing area. However I used the steam room only twice as it had broken down after that and was not fixed for the next couple of weeks. The reception staff are friendly and welcoming
I did like going to a women only gym.
I absolutely loved working out on a reformer at HQ Pilates. As newbie I went to a beginners class, which was plenty challenging enough for me. The instructor was fantastic at demonstrating each exercise and checking our positioning - the benefits of a limited-in-numbers class. I will definitely be going back. Oh, and I felt pleasantly achey the next day !
Well recommended. It takes a while to get used to the machine you use to do the pilates, but it really is a thorough workout, so worth it. At the end of the session you feel like you've worked most of the muscles in your body! Not for the tame hearted. Buying indivdual sessions works out quite pricey, so its worth getting a package of sessions. Also, take advantage of their first session free policy so you can try it out. I'm looking forward to my next session!
The location of the Pilates studio is great, just across the street from Angel tube. But you do have to take a grotty lift to the top floor of a fairly decrepit office building. The studio itself is newly refurbished and bright. All the equipment looks very new, though the ventilation could be better. I hadn't Pilates for years and was actually surprised how high-tech everything is now. It all looked good anyway. It was when the class started that things got a bit tough for me because the instructor was Canadian. Her accent was a little hard to understand but the real problem was that she seemed to assume that everyone had a good knowledge of Pilates and threw out a lot of jargon that went right over my head. She seemed to get a bit ratty that I didn't understand everything she was sasying. It was all a bit fast and stressful for me so not what I remembered from my Pilates classes before. I only went for one class and didn't feel encourgaed to return for the other two that I'm entitled to.
This place is brilliant. The studio has great equipment. There are only 6 reformers so you really get the attention of the great teachers based in a lovely sunny studio very close to Angel tube. A fantastic way to get fit. After 3 sessions you could already see the difference. I would totally recommend this.
Pilates HQ is definitely worth a visit with the free Wahanda voucher. The whole set-up is very professional - great reformer machines and instructor, and classes that push you hard without being impossible. Class sizes are also very small, I think around 7 or 8 people maximum, which means lots of personalised attention from the instructors and plenty of opportunity to ask questions if you are not sure you are doing something right. The location is also very convenient, just opposite Angel tube station. The classes are fairly expensive at full price, but it is definitely worth checking out.
The facilities were very good and the trainer had everyone doing different exercises according to ability and needs. While this was good, it made the class flow less well. I had to wait a while sometimes for them to respond to my emails. Also, due to building works, some facilities were unavailable when I wanted them.
Voucher easy to use ,no booking required. Easy to get to venue. Teachers very good and classes had a comfortable no with plenty of space for everybody. The only downside for me was air conditioning was being worked on initally and when this was completed it would seem not usually used during the class which leaves thie room too hot for me.
I loved the beginners class at Pilates HQ! I've done mat-based pilates for a while now and been looking out for an opportunity to try out reformer pilates. It's a bit of a weird sensation at first but you soon get used to sliding up and down on the funny rolling mat thing. Hollie, the instructor, was absolutely lovely and explained everything in really simple terms, also walking around the room to check posture and alignment. The studio is really well-located, right opposite the tube at Angel, and all the facilities were spotlessly clean. It really was an all-over workout and I'll definitely be back for more. Thank you Wahanda, and Pilates HQ!
As I've never been to a pilates class before, I found this class enjoyable and will definitely give it a go again! The venue is easy to get to, the instructor was friendly and patient with beginners.
The reformer class is excellent and I really felt that I got a much better workout that normal floor pilates. Pilates HQ is a great location with nice facilities. Would highly recommend it (if you can afford it that is!)
Vouchers were not recognised and we were told they were out of date, confusion with free passes also, inundated with sales calls to join up and a conflicting advice about attendance. WE were not allowed to book classes in advance and were told that members would get preference on the day.
We tried unsuccessfully to book classes, vouchers were not recognised and we were told they were out of date, not to mention that once they had my email address I have been inundated with requested to join up. We wanted to go to Zumba class but where told conflicting advice and that members would get preference and that we were not allowed to book classes
Great please to exercise and relax.
Fitness instructors are well qualified, attentive and dedicated. They help you to make the most of your time and make the classes fun! I can not praise enough Nikki who is the best ever Pilates instructor!
The studio is nice and bright and the instructors are fantastic! I have had sessions with 3 different instructors here and although they all have different approaches the classes have a more holistic approach than some other venues I have been to where they feel more like going to the gym. At the end of a session you realise that you had muscles in places you didn't know before - but don't be afraid because the beginners classes are not too difficult or tiring and because the classes are small the instructors can make sure you are doing everything properly. The only down side is that I've used my voucher and won't be able to afford to keep going to classes at pilates hq as it is quite expensive. It would be good if they did some vouchers that existing customers can use too - not just new customers.
The classes were as you would expect from a gym, although the timetable was rather limited as they only have one studio. The fitness centre as a whole is very small and cramped - a bit of a sweat box to be honest! Could probably do with a bit of a refresh, and some new equipment. The studio was also very smelly. This was made up for by the polite and helpful staff.
Great studio and great fun! Hoping to return soon for another session. Easy to find and accessible and a good workout though obviously pricey without the voucher so not sure if I'd be able to make a habit of it...
Good quality. Friendly staff. Good pilates instructors. I attended intermediate classes. In my first class, as the other participants were beginners, the level of the class was relatively low, more closer to a beginner class. But the following classes were fine. Overall I think it is a good pilates venue, I would go again.
It's an attractive space, and the receptoinist was very friendly and helpful. There are many diffferent pilates instructors, each with their own style, and you can read about each one, and look at their picture, before booking.
I decided to try Pilates with my friend. Pilates HQ is located just opposite Angel tube and although quite small it's very bright, airy and clean. There's a little changing room and a shower. The instructor was very nice and welcoming - she started by explaining the basics of Pilates and what we can expect from the class. All the exercises are performed on a special equipment which makes it more fun (and more challenging!). Overall a really well spent hour - I felt all my muscles the next day. I would definitely recommend it.
The Fitness First South Kensington is a bit dated and everything is a bit old. The staff really didn't know what was going on, she was adamant that I had to take the 5 days consecutively, until I showed her the voucher, and that happened to another girl too. Then the guys at the counter didn't know what to do with the voucher.
I'm a reformer pilates addict and just jumped at the chance to have some free session. After that I loved the studio so much i bought a block of 30 sessions. It's definitely worth it. Great location, fantastic reformer beds and teachers are friendly too. Definitely one to check out if you love your pilates! :-)
The class was of a very small size and the studio was very well equipped. I had never done Pilates before with machines so it was very interesting. It was quite difficult to hear/see the instructor at times when she was demonstrating from the far side of the room but she made an effort to come around and to correct everyone while the class was going on. Very good facilities overall.
I thought this studio was very nice, light, airy and a really pleasant place to work out. I will definitely be returning as I thought the instructors were both excellent. Highly recommended.
The Fitness First Club I went to is 2mins from my workplace so really convenient. The staff at reception were friendly and helpful and the club itself has great facilities. I was told my Pilates class was for beginners but it wasn't really and I did find myself struggling to keep up with many of the regulars! I'm a bit hesitant about trying another class in case I make myself look stupid again!
This was my first pilates class and I really loved it, tough to get the hang of it but really felt the benfits immediately...great to get a free class to get into it...I'm a convert!
I went to a Beginner's class on a Saturday afternoon. The studio was clean and well-maintained. The instructor was great... explained everything very clearly and kept reminding us when to breathe, and what muscles we were working.
If you haven't used a reformer before, the machine can seem a bit scary. After having used it, I don't think I can go back to basic mat pilates... the reformer is excellent for a core workout. I will def be going back for more..
I tried a free class at Pilates HQ before purchasing 3 for £20. Excellet value for money considering classes are £25 each.
The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the teachers are incredibly knowledgable, patient and informative. I felt every muscle in my body working; it's not hard to see why people get such great results with Pilates.
I would definitely return and would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone. I would like to see this sort of class available for slightly less money; £25 per class is quite steep for alot of people and it seems a shame that such great exercise is only available to a limited number of people.
Loved the venue, although small it had good facilities and was very clean. I had three different instructors and couldn't fault any of them, they paid attention to each one of us and was sure to correct us if we did the exercise incorrectly. Highly enjoyable.
was an okay experience, would not by any means pay full price for this it just wasn't my thing i guess sorry that i can't be more helpful in my review.
Its simple the voucher advertised pilates so my wife and i both bought vouchers. Once booked we contacted the centre and it turns out they only run 2 sessions a week, and one of these sessions runs mid-day. So in short the voucher was useless as both of us worked and the time offerings were no good.
Its been a waste of money for us, dont buy these vouchers unless your going to do Yoga, thats the bottom line, they seem to run many many many yoga classes, though not much else.
And yes we did contact the venue and ask for additional classes, though they said thats all that was running for the duration of the vouchers.....
I used the fitness classes voucher - the experience to redeem the voucher was easy and the gym had a nice vibe to it. The Pilates class I went to was not amazing, and a bit crowded (lunchtime), but I would still say - no major complaints.
Tried Pilates on reformer machines for a very first time - I just love it! Great fun, brilliant body workout. Welcoming atmosphere with very friendly staff. On each of 3 sessions I had different coaches - I found this really good as each trainer have different approach with special sets of exercise for different group of muscles. Lots of attention for each student during the sessions. Changing room a bit small but studio with a nice view to a terrace very clean and equipped to a very high standard. Recommended to a friend - she was very happy also.
Pilates HQ is a great place. Tucked away from the crowds, is very clean and quite spacious. It feels a treat to be going there rather than a chore to be exercising like most gyms.
The instructor really did take care in making sure so one was injured prior to the class starting, assessed peoples heights to make sure the bed was adjusted accordingly. The price is high for the class, I think it is worth it but do think its a bit cheeky to ask you to clean your own equipment when you are spending so much on the class and also generally 50mins not 55 or an hour. So a touch on the pricy side if you are like who pays for a personal trainer and the gym as well. BUT overall they know their stuff here and are very professional and I would go again!
venue is small and slightly 'pokey'. changing rooms are away from the shower which is a little awkward. staff were very helpful. pilates class was great, nice fast pace, great workout. equipment is good, use of props etc during session. overall really enjoyed it but in the long run would be too pricey to maintain.
The staff was welcoming. the location is great and clean , the access is easy. the intsructor was really good and encouraging. He took time explaining figures and corrected and adjusted my posture all the time.
i felt like I was in good hands.
Its a great way of execising. I think i will ddo it again.
I did enjoy the classes, but didn't really feel the "work out" like I have done with other companies. The studio was however nice, bright and clean and the instructors nice.
Very friendly welcoming staff. Clean changing rooms and showers/toilets. Fairly spacious changing rooms for the size of the place. Class instructors are all very good and professional. The only problem I have is that there is only one studio (which I gues is normal in a club this size) and its is very small, made worse by the amount of equiptment stacked up around the room - bikes, weights, steps.
You can't really have more than 10 people for any one class and more like 8 for step or pump.
This could mean it would be hard to get in to a class during peak times - at the moment it's not so bad due to the fact that it's August and a lot of people are away. I would still very much recomend this gym.
Great venue, good trainers. I really enjoyed the classes. To keep up the classes after the special offer were a bit expensive though. Would recommend taking advantage of any cheaper deals when they are offered.
I was really impressed with my Pilates sessions at Pilates HQ. It was really easy to book a session online, and as there were so many classes per day, I managed to fit mine around work. The staff were really friendly and the equipment used was really good. I've never really done pilates before so the instructor talked me through all of the moves and adjusted them if needed! Excellent workout/experience overall!!!!
I really enjoyed the staff the venue and the exercises.
Would recommend it without a doubt!
If you can make the earlier class you will find it very peaceful and enjoyable as the classes are usually small.
I really enjoyed Dynamic Pilates. It was a friendly atmosphere and the classes were not really busy, 4-5 people per class.
It was daunting at first looking at all of the equipment as I hadn't done any exercise on a reformer before, but the teacher was great and took out the fear factor!
I would highly recommend this place and I will be signing up if they have another deal on.
Did my first class which I thought was brilliant the teach was very helpful very easy to follow and a good work out. I would deffinately recommend doing a class and that venue.
Pilates HQ is a bright, clean studio and conveniently located right off of Angel tube station. The instructors were helpful and accomodating to different levels of experience. Overall, I would say it's a great please for people who are looking to get started with pilates or who have moderate experience.
We had a wonderful pilates session. As quite an unfit newcomer, I was unsure how I would find it, but it was actually very relaxing and fun too. The facilities were fab, and the staff were very motivating and kind. I would go again, and would recommend the class to others!
Nice atmosphere with friendly teachers. I took a friend who had never done a class before and she loved it and found it easy to follow. Would highly recommend them
As a "free taster" class, i joined the chair pilates which is very unusual yet demanding. Unfortunately it was a little out of my capability as I have a back injury. However, the staff are lovely and very helpful and offered very helpful suggestions and we had a good discussion on the best options for me. I like that it is a pay as you go system with an online booking form .This makes it very flexible to work around existing gym memberships.
This is a cross between traditional reformer pilates and cross-training, pioneered in Los Angeles. Definitely worth trying if you don't mind moving around alot into different positions and willing to push yourself beyond the comfort zone.
Thought the staff and classes were fab - lots of variation and the small number of people meant you could really get individual attention. The equipment was always clean and well maintained. Would definitely recommend!
Great venue, great class and I am converted to Pilates after it. Pilates is quite expensive though but the results are worth it. I would def recommend this location and this class
Highly recommended. I attended sessions with 3 different teachers, all of who were superb. The small classes (max 9 but somtimes only 3 or 4) meant that you received individual attention. The reformers classes themselves were great, but tiring - very much jelly legs afterwards but it does pay off. Venue is fab, and happily is air conditioned too. Also useful to have shower facilties as well as a changing room
I went to Bodywise for pilates classes, as a beginner. It is located in an old converted above-shop building and so the floors were rather uneven and creaky - but of course we had mats for the exercises anyway. The teacher was very nice and patient with the mixed experience classes and I can recommend Bodywise pilates if you're looking for a gentle introduction from a bohemian-nature centre.
I recently took advantage of their first session free offer. The venue was easy to find and had a nice setup. The receptionist and the class instructor were both very friendly. I hadn't used a pilates machine before, but was lucky and the only person who turned up for the session, so the girl went through everything with me one on one, which was great. It was a real workout and I left feeling positive. Will definitley go back. Hopefully I will be able to work out the machines by myself.
My overall thought of Pilates HQ in Islington = Amazing!
The studio was clearly marked and easy to find, just across from Angel Tube station. The inside of the studio is sparkling clean with great big windows on each side. The woman at the front desk greeted me with a warm welcome and explained where I could find the showers, changing rooms, towels, blow dryers, etc.
I attended a Sunday morning beginners class with Sharon and she was very knowledgable and helpful. With each exercise she checked our alignment and made sure we were doing things properly (those reformer machines have a lot of parts to learn!) I left here feeling great and I can't wait to go back next week.
Seeing as your first class is free with Pilates HQ, there is no reason not to try it. Classes on their own are a bit pricey, but no more than other Reformer classes.
I'd heard a bit about reformer pilates, but never tried it before, so the free trial class seemed like a great way to give it a go. The booking was really easy, and there was a wide range of class times to choose from. The studios were nice and clean and staff were friendly and helpful. Amy, the instructor, was able to explain the movements in a way that made sense to me, and kept the class feeling very positive. I've been doing beginners matwork classes for a couple of months, so some of the movements were familiar, but the reformer really helps you to get the most out of your workout. I really enjoyed the class, and I'd definitely consider booking another one - it's not cheap, but it felt really effective!
The staff were very friendly and the facilities were great.
It was my first session at pilates and would definitely go back.
Trainer was very good and experienced, explaining at each stage and correcting us in the class.
Everything was great and I would recommend it for anyone that wants to do Pilates but it just wasnt for me. The facilities are qute nice and so are the instructors so anyone wanting to do Pilates tis is a good place for you
When a physiotherapist at St Thomas’ Hospital told me I had to strengthen my core and the best way to do that was to do Pilates I had to find a suitable Pilates class in central London as near to me as possible. I was afraid to go to the Pilates class at the gym because I was recovering from a bad case of sciatica and I feared that I might not be able to keep up. I was delighted when I discovered Steve Jordan Pilates within walking distance from my home and in the last year I have improved a lot there. The trainers were excellent and I received the individual attention that I required. I was never fearful that they would push me beyond my limits, and very gently they encouraged me to build strength using their genuine understanding of Pilates and of the human body. My experience with Steve Jordan Pilates has been just what I needed and I wish I had found it much earlier.

My experience at Steve Jordan Pilates Studio in SE1 London was great! From initial intake as a beginner you can tell the those involved are concerned about health and getting great results...not just a quick buck! I have taken different exercise classes before and really feel like this company values small class sizes and making sure their clients get attention from the instructors. My instructor was motivating and gave very clear instructions making it easy to follow along. I will definitely be back! Meagan
This was a great class. The instructor was well educated and knew some great moves that I had not done before. It was a fun and energetic class, sure to leave you sweaty but wanting to come back for more...
I went to one of the free pilates classes and it was really good. i really felt it in between my thighs. the instructor was very good and kept an eye on me and helped me out when necessary. classes are small which is good. i would recommend that you try it out. enjoy !
I really enjoy my Pilates Beginner's session, it's a very clean spacies studio, the teach is great, very professional and encouraging. I felt the excersice is very helpful and good for me.
I have been regularly attending Pilates classes at the London Bridge/Bermondsey SE1 Steve Jordan branch for some six months, and have certainly felt the benefits of this variation on the Pilates method. The exercises have helped significantly with my running-induced stiffness, added to which my overall body tone has improved noticeably. The lessons are fun, and the teachers encouraging. Highly recommended.
Best wishes
Adrian
This great studio in Notting Hill is a real find - they are well equipped, the teachers are helpful and informative, and they are close to my office - always a bonus!
This was my first time on a Pilates reformer and I was surprised at how different it was from standard mat-based Pilates. The staff were helpful and keen to make sure I was doing it right and getting the maximum benefit from the exercises - which I didn't thank them for the next day when I could barely move!
Well. the place is just opposite the station, which is great locaction if you work nearby. It is was no one else apart me so I literaly had a one to one pilates, for this big 5. BUT, the price is too much per hour.
Wow, I had long been wanting to try reformer Pilates, and this Wahanda deal made it so affordable. In fact, in one lesson, I was the only student due to last minute cancellations, so I had a personal training session for just £8!
Pilates HQ is a really fresh, clean studio, with good equipment, shower and toilet, and friendly reception. Changing is a little limited but the classes are kept small so there is rarely too much clashing
I found using the reformer could really work my muscles, but unlike mat-based Pilates, which I have found a little dull, it is SUPER FUN too! All the instructors I trained with were really attentive and very experienced , each with their own style - I especially enjoyed classes with Stella and Alison.
I would definitely like to make this form of exercise something I do regularly, though the regular prices are a bit of a barrier for me.
I have taken their free trial class and booked a beginners session - the instructor took a lot of effort to make sure we got the positions right and gave good recommendations and tips. The studio is lovely and clean and I felt very relaxed when I left. Overall a really good experience!
The instructor was very clear and helpful, I really enjoyed my session. I hurt quite a lot the next day so this definitely works! Uses lots of different muscles from my usual yoga. Will be going again for sure, is loads more fun than mat pilates. The changing rooms were very clean and the venue was easy to find. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming.
Thoroughly enjoyed the class - great workout. Teacher was good, explained each move and postion and came round to correct you if necessary. Equipment cleaned after each class. Class are varied which is beneficial.
A lovely studio with very experienced instructors. I had been interested in trying Pilates on a reformer for some time and so this Wahanda deal gave me the chance to try it out. I was surprised by how different it is compared to Pilates taught in gyms that I have tried in the past.
If I were going to be focused entirely on Pilates, I would probably practice it here. However, I my personal goals mean that I want to focus on more than just one discipline so have decided to look elsewhere. The prices are very good and there is good number of classes taught throughout the day...therefore for anyone wanting to have an easy and focused Pilates studio, this is great...if it is only Pilates you want to focus on!
i've been a member of Reebok for years and use the spa sporadically. If you need a very intensive massage - especially back, shoulders and neck area - make sure you see Phyllis. She is fantastic and amazingly strong. She can sort out deep knots and and fascia. Very highly recommend her. Not for the faint-hearted - a seriously intense massage. Mark is also good for a deep tissue sports massage. The rooms are great, low lighting, clean and usually lit with candles. Pricey though. Only complaint - regularly short you on time - have never had a full 50min treatment yet. Last time, therapist was 10min late, then allow for 5min changing, yet I was out the door paying at exactly on the hour which meant losing nearly 10min of massage time. This wasn't the first time.
It was my first session in a pilates studio. before i attended 2 pilates classes but without using the pilates equipment. i found it quite boring for me and didnt feel any effect to be honest. having a class in Pilates HQ change my attitude and i would only recommend it! i felt well after the class, felt my muscles and thats what i like :)
THe studio is very close to angel tube station, clean, large room for training. Instructor was focused on the group to perform correct moves. Absolutely loved the new experience of Pilatese on machines! Recommend to start from beginners group.
I am the mother of two children, West1 physiotherapy and Pilates helps me in lot during pregnancy for managing a body to simplify childbirth and after pregnancy help me for recovering a body shape. Thanks- Mariya Jas
It was good and I ended up being the only one in the class so got a private session! (It was during the day in case you are wondering). The class was good and gave me a great all over work out even though at the time it felt like I hardly did anything - my kind of work out! Its really near the tube station too.
The sight of the machines was slightly daunting, but the beginners class was the perfect introduction and the instructor was patient and clear. Could feel my stomach muscles being used! Looking forward to my next class, and hope to get a figure like Gwyneth's...
Great experience, teachers are absolutely fabulosso. I will be comming back as soon as possible. This professional quality is a perfect solution for great relax and perfect body! worked for me!
Friendly atmosphere and a really nice trainer (Amy) The classes are small and well taught which allows the individual attention needed for an absolute beginner. The class was effective and I found muscles that I did not know existed. Highly recommended.
this was my second session and i really enjoyed it again. it's a very nice change from being at the gym which i feel is more like a chore just to keep in shape. but this was very soothing in a way, i think i will do more sessions of pilates,it seems to be doing the trick!
Great location, right by angel station. Staff made us feel very at ease despite never having done reformer pilates before. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. It was a small class of 9 people so the instructor could correct us if we were doing anything incorrectly. We definitely felt worked out after an hour, and I was so impressed I went back since.
What a nice place, conveniently located in the heart of the city. I thoroughly enjoyed the trial class, although did struggle as a beginner. Facilities very good, nice and clean.
Nice place! Will come again!
A beginner to pilates...Great studio, staff were very helpful and knowledgable. The location was very easy to find and convenient. I would love to return and would highly recommend. Thanks so much!
What a great place! A warm welcome, decent facilities and the studio is modern and bright. Instructors were all brilliant. I am totally hooked, this place is perfect and I've signed up for more classes!
SJP Pilates studio in London Bridge offers an amazing technique for toning and strengthening your whole body. I am the mother of two small children and have found Pilates to be the perfect solution for my bad posture (result of carrying children and pushing buggies) whilst providing general strengthening and toning. The classes are small so the instructors can spend time with each person ensuring that the techniques are performed correctly - and are therefore more effective.
The staff are friendly and attentive. I have limited time each week to spend on exercise and the classes are very focused and intense so I know I have used my hour as effectively as possible. I live locally in SE1 and with the many options for available classes which can simply be booked online - the SJP Pilates studio is a very easy exercise solution to suit a busy schedule
REALLY enjoyed myself with this. Staff were very nice and welcoming. A great beginners class as well although I wasn't even remotely sweaty so I'm keen to give it a go and try intermediate soon. Enjoyed it so much, I've booked myself in for 3 more classes this month!
I have really enjoyed my classes at Pilates HQ, the instructors have been really great.
Although my vouchers are nearly up, I will intend to keep up the lessons ( so bye bye Pret breakfast and lunch).
The location is great (if you work near Angel or passing trough). Open and bright space, depending on the teachers classes are pretty good. The ladies changing rooms are too small for the amount of people who leaves and goes trough, but that is in peak hours I guess.
Pilates HQ is ideally located in Islington opposite Angel tube. The studio is light and airy and the instruction was excellent. I would definitely go back and would recommend it to others.
Really good pilates class but only criticism is the fact no one ever picks up when you ring the number, however you can efficiently book online. Staff were very friendly, relaxed and helpful. Nice, clean studio with state-of-the-art equipment. . The Pilates was challenging being a beginner but i felt at ease with the instructors.
The venue is very close to Whiteleys Shopping Centre. There's no need to fill in any questionnaire since all is done online prior to the visit. All their classes are very popular so you'll need to book ahead. Went to a power reformer class with a lot of cardio work. The instructor didn't just concentrate on core work but made everyone work on other muscle groups too. Pleased with the class!
First Class Palates – trust me! I was preparing to run the London marathon for the first time and was recommended by an expert to use palates as a supplementary form of exercise. I had never been to a palates class before attending Steve Jordan’s Palates, but I’m now a complete convert. My experience at Steve Jordan’s Palates has been first class. Specific things that a I really like about the set up include: - Excellent instructors, they are all real experts in their field and really motive you - Small class sizes (max of 6) so you get a high quality workout - Clear structure of progression through classes - Flexibility and ease of booking / attending classes - Noticeable results within a month I would highly recommend going to Steve Jordan’s Palates. You will not be disappointed. The results for me were superb; I managed a sub 3-30 marathon at my first attempt which would not have been possible without the core, hips and legs work built up through Steve Jordan’s Palates classes.

If you've ever done pilates before or curious about it, the free class I had was a great introduction and very enjoyable for machine based pilates. The studio was very clean, the instructor very knowledgeable and able to provide individual direction in a room of about 8 people and I certainly felt I'd received a great workout, tired but energised at the end of it and my body, especially my hamstrings (something I personally need to work on) felt nicely and deeply stretched out.
This is something I'd want to do regularly, at least once on a weekly basis if a) I didn't already pay a monthly gym membership and the normal cost of a class was not £25 - I do not feel, as good as the workout was, it is worth spending £100/month on for the number of times I'd wish to go. However, from Wahanda, I have bought an offer for 3 more classes for £25 (i.e. £8.33 per class) and can't wait to attend them.
Great experience! Receptionist was very welcoming and patient, showed where to change, how to use shower rooms and offered towel. The instructor was very professional and friendly. She explained how machine works, showed every exercise herself and went around the studio to check on everyone to make sure we repeating correctly. Nice mirrored studio with a beautiful patio view and pleasant music on the background - one hour session run like 15 minutes for me and I really enjoyed. Great value for money and definitely will consider booking a block of classes.
This was a really good class, it really stretched every muscle and we knew about it the next day despite being pretty fit. We used the free session on Wahanda but unfortunately I consider £25 to be far too expensive for an hour session so will not be returning to Pilates HQ.
I think it's probably really difficult learning Pilates in a class environment as it's so difficult to know if you're doing it right! So that said, I think the class was pretty good at attempting to do just that ... N
I purchased a deal from Groupon. It was my first time doing pilates on a reformer machine. I thoroughly enjoyed it and really found it to be a very effective workout, as easy as some of the moves appear - I really found they were not! Afterwards I'd ache where I never had before. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The classes contain no more than 9 people so its easy to be monitored by the instructor. However, I find the original price to be quite steep but I find that's the way generally with reformer pilates. I definitely recommend this venue!
Very easy and efficient booking process - all done online. Staff were very friendly, relaxed and helpful. Nice, clean studio with state-of-the-art equipment. This type of pilates is vastly different to alot of other exercise classes so free trial is perfect for someone trying it for the first time. Found it quite challenging! The place, Pilates HQ itself is great.
Tried reformer pilates there for the first time and decided to continue with this type of fitness. Before I was doing mat pilates, but this type is more effective to me. I finally bought more but with their Richmond studio.
An excellent experience. I really enjoyed the session the therapist was very friendly and knowledgeable and I felt that the work out was challenging however felt great afterwards.
I would definitely recommend this to someone else.
I convinced a friend to come along for a free power plate and pilates trial. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff and were made to fill welcome. The instructor was very thorough and explained each exercise. I found the plates very challenging as I could not stabilise myself and kept shaking but my friend was much better. I loved the TRX equipment briefly used in the 30 min session and would consider plates in the future. We then begun the pilates class on the reformer. It was only me and my friend at the time so got alot of attention. I really like the fact that both their session allow a max of 4 people. Quite often I have been to places where you are left to figure out the exercises out yourself but here, the time was taken to correct our positions and pushed us further. My friend and I will definitely be purchasing the four classes for £20 in the very in future but find the overall prices for pilates classes a little too expensive to continue at this lovely studio.
Great venue in a convenient location and the therapist was really helpful. It was the first time I'd tried Pilates, though I'd wanted to for a while, and I think that I shall most probably be back!
This is not really like pilates. It is more like a bootcamp session... No one really looks after your posture as you do the movements. You are totally on your own and so if you are totally new to pilates, you are very much likely to stick your bum out and not hold your abs tight and in, all which could then lead to serious injuries...
Great worked out and great trainer. ( I even loved the cheesy music). I tried the free beginners class and I felt like I was pushed but it was also doable and it did not demotivate me. Felt really good afterwards. I loved the place too as it had that beautcamp fee- very minimalistic- and it looked very up to date. It it was just a shame that there were no shower facilities. Also I think it is a bit pricey for me and this is what has stopped me from going back. I would love to be able to afford it three times a week as it does seem like a great work out for all the areas I want to improve on. The moment I can I will definitely go back.
I also like the fact that you are able to make bookings online. Overall very satisfied with the experience.
Great place, I have really become addicted to it! Everyone is so friendly and the instructors are extremely professional -- I have tried all of them and they are all fantastic, they always make sure the excersise is right for you and that you are making the most of a workout. I would recommend this place to anyone who is serious about getting back in shape, my boyfriend wouldn't stop going on about how great my body looks now. I had massage at Absolute Pilates a couple of times as well, and it's also amazing and makes you feel like a new person. It is worth trying this place, especially considering that you get your first class for free.
This is the best pilates studio I have ever been to!!! The room itself is very nice and the instructor was absolutely amazing. As I am quite new to pilates, he explained all the basics to me before the class started -- something that did not happen at the other two pilates places I have tried. He also explained how important it was to make sure that all my movements are correct during the exercises and was really looking after me during the class. I really enjoyed the workout and will definitely be back again!!!
Absolute Pilates is a phenomenal studio! I feel like a kid in a candy store - but one that's actually beneficial for me!
I went with my boyfriend and he loved it to. The pilates class is a real workout! Teachers are fantastic and the ambiance of the studio is great.
Great approach and very friendly staff. will recommend to my friends and will attend again. the staff were professional and gave a lot of advice on the type of exercise i needed to apply.
I really enjoyed my session and learned a lot. I had never attended a pilates class before and really enjoyed my experience. I look forward to attending another one very soon.
Fabulous and helpful staff, have booked a further class. Don't expect a particularly stylish and plush studio - the equipment is excellent and studio clean - does what it says on the tin!
I was really impressed by this place. It was unusual but i felt that it was an efficient workout. Staff were friendly and encouraging. I would definitely go again and recommend this to anyone.
The training is really good but I prefer traditional pilates. I would prefer if the venue had proper showers and changing rooms but I really liked the staff and the instructor was really good. I will go back and try the power plate as well.
Having tried out 3 different Pilates studios in the 2 months, the class that I took at Pilates HQ was brilliant.
The studio is light and bright and the tutor for that session was great. The instructions were clear and she corrected your position, which I feel is very important.
Each exercise pushed you and stretched you but in a nice way.
I left the class feeling that I had done something and the next day did not ache at all.
Now the only challenge I have is finding the funds to continue to come to the studio, but where there is a will there is a way so I know I will be back.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Good way to have fun with your girls and loosing all this calories without the feeling of boredom. I loved it and would go back again. Good location as well.
The class was ok, felt a bit slow; music choice/volume etc was not playing a big motivational part of the class, which would have been good. Facilities-wise they have all the essentials; staff were friendly.
I went for a pilates class. The instructor was a nice young woman and I enjoyed the class. Unfortunately, I could not use all 3 days of the trial membership as the voucher expired soon - beginning of May and before that we all had a big break that I used for travelling (by the way, the instructor went on holidays as well)
I have been to other Pilates classes and this was ok compared to others. The equipment is great, the location is perfect. I did not enjoy the exercises that much but I guess this varies. I would go back to the studio one more time before making a final decision whether or not I would like to continue.
Great workout, the trainer is very professional and really knows what she is doing. She took time to explain all the little bits about pilates to me and even suggested a few exercises i could do at home to get in shape quick. The staff is very friendly and the workout was very intense.
It was a bit hot in the studio, and the changing room was quite small, but the equipment seemed new, and the trainer was quite helpful, correcting me each time I was doing something wrong. However, it was my first time and I hoped there would be someone to explain the basics to me before the class starts, which wasn't the case.
Amazing workout, felt really toned afterwards. Works your whole body. It's hard but worth it. I'm now pregnant so unable to do this workout anymore, but will be definitely taking it up again once I've had my baby to help get my figure back.
I loved the class and think is the best way to work all the muscles...the trainer was very encouraging and helpful. I would for sure enroll. In fact I would love to become a trainer myself and start giving these classes.
Great classes. The place is really clean and nice and the staff is quite friendly. The one thing is you have to bring your own pilates mat or rent or buy one from them. They'll let you leave your mat at the studio though which is nice.
I was looking to find a reformer pilates class near work and this is 5 minutes away!!
This is very fast paced and fun way to use a reformer. I have used one of these machines before but the course that I was on was much more remedial.
The classes are small, which is great because the teacher can then come around and correct you.
All in all, I would rate this and will definately be going again.
I love pilates, all forms of pilates esp on the machines. you REALLY feel the moves that you making. the trainer was politer and experienced, always checking up on me and making sure i was comfortable in the class, and gave me feedback after class :)
very enjoyable; i will be returning
i had a great experience at Forver Young Sports. The staff was extrememly friendly and accomodating. The pilates classes were great and the teachers very helpful and friendly. My only concern was that classes don't always start on time, but other than that I highly recommed the pilates!
Never having attended a pilates class before I wasn't sure what to expect from Pilates HQ, but even if I did know what to expect I think my expectations would have been exceeded as it was such a lovely experience. I have been totally converted to Pilates, and to Pilates Allegro especially. The instructor was a great teacher, who helped all us beginners into the correct stances and ensured that we were maximising the impact of the class on ourselves. The ambience was lovely, with doors open onto a small rooftop garden ensuring that the warm weather reached us while we worked out.
Great place, great teacher and great new exercise! Truly recommend Pilates HQ.
I throughly enjoyed my experience with Pilates HQ. Definitely felt a difference when I was on my way home after class.(inner things, buns and arms especially). The teacher was superb and room room was spacious with alot of light, over seeing Inslington. The reformer is a brilliant machines, I wish it was more widely available. I will be returning to P HQ in the summer! :)
Great team! Don't make you feel uncomfortable if, like me, you're a newcomer to exercise. Can go at your own pace.
Power plate - was a lot harder than I thought it would be!! (Not simply stand there and the inches vibrate away - unfortunately!)
Pilates - excellent tutor (Alan), explains what everything is doing for you and doesn't push you too hard.
Would highly recommend.
Never tried pilates in my whole life, and what a new experience it was. It took me time getting used to but upon learning I FOUND THIS NEW ENERGY AND THIS NEW WORLD OF FITNESS. great experience
Tough class, but gave me a really good understanding of my weak points and movement. Good personalised attention and correction. Was a bit packed in the evening session as the area is not very big.
I went to my first pilates class on the reformer having done yoga and mat based pilates for a few years. It was an excellent experience. The class was very fast-paced and worked every muscle group of the body. Music helped too and having 9 other students in the class doing synchronised movements.
The changing room facility could be better though; but overall a good class.
Lovely studio and a small class, which means the teacher is able to make sure everyone is ok and doing the exercises correctly. The staff (teachers and receptionist) are friendly and helpful, and the studio is conveniently located right across from Angel tube station. I enjoyed the exercises and felt them at the time, but after three times, I've never had sore muscles afterwards. The deal is great value but the classes are quite pricey otherwise.
I have enjoyed my pilates sessions with Body Active. I found the instructors really helpful and personalise my session for my individual needs. I like the small class sizes and would (and have) recommend this venue to friends and family
Enjoyed the class very much. Class was small in numbers, so plenty of individual attention. Great environment in a good location (Islington Upper Street). Good deal with the 3 for 2. Kinda pricey going per class.
A nice friendly studio in a good location and a very good deal £20 for 4 sessions. There are only a few reformer machines so it is similar to havinga personal trainer as you do get 1:1 help.
These studios are in a converted house, which makes it have a really nice and different atmosphere. I really enjoyed the Pilates classes and the teacher was great. It was quite a relaxed class.
After doing the free beginners class, I followed it up with the 3 classes from the Mobdeal. It was nice that the teacher remembered me from the week before and any issues that I had raised about back problems. She constantly went round everyone's reformer machines and would adjust the weights if they were too heavy. I would have carried on the classes if I had bought more from the Wahanda deal.
Great place for pilates! The studio is very light and airy, lots of daylight coming in. Class size is just the right size, maximum number is eight or nine. Teacher is so attentive. The reformer machines are explained well and the class was shown how to use them properly. Highly recommend Pilates HQ.
Nick was my instructor. A short black guy with white sparkling teeth. I went for a free class of pilates. I am very unfit and struggled to do a lot of the exercises as a result. I had to take breathers inbetween and never held a position for the length of time suggested. My whole body ached for 5 days afterwards and if I jujst tried to sit up my stomach muscles were really aching. I wasn't pushed to go beyond my means. I would go again as the muscles I didn't know even existed were used to the max.
I went for a free beginners class. The key focus in the class was breathing correctly whilst doing the exercises on the reformer. I didn't struggle with the moves. The instructor was very informative and knew exactly what she was saying. A good class overall for anyone new to pilates that doesn't want to be pushed.
All was good but as I don't live local I wanted to book a Pilates class & Osteo session on the same day - which they couldn't do as they work different days. The Pilates class was only avail on Tues @ 1-2pm. Not a good time for most people due to work. If I'd know that as the time of booking I woudn't have booked.
We had a free trial session of pilates at pilates HQ in Angel. I'm not a veteran of pilates but this this was very different to other pilates classes I've tried. It was much more focused on stretching and there was hardly any core strength exercises. It was also done to nice relaxing music as opposed to dance music, which I'm more used to. It was fine if you are expecting a nice relaxing pilates class but if you want to draw sweat adn ache for days after, then this isn't the class for you!
I tried both the power plate and pilates. The power plate session was intense and really worked me out. The trainer Jemma is great. She focuses on each person and tailors the workout. Unlike many classes where they just show you how to do the excersice, here they lead you through it, correct you and personalise it as well to suit your needs and level. The pilates reformer really strectches the body. In general great, only gripe is the lack of a shower room....
I'm glad that I got to try Pilates HQ with a voucher. They have many instructors with different backgrounds (e.g. dance, sports, etc), and to be honest, I didn't like the first class I tried. I stayed away for months, but because I didn't want the rest of of the voucher to go to waste, I came back and tried a class with a different instructor, and I enjoyed that class a whole lot more. The instructor seemed like she actually took more than just one course of Pilates. The movements were interesting, much more than just basic calisthenics on the reformer, and I really felt like I worked out my entire body, and not just the major muscles. I've since found two instructors I really like at Pilates HQ, and I'm planning to make Pilates HQ a regular part of my weekly routine.
the workout was seriously hard work, much harder than i was expecting but defintiely worth it, i was feeling it for a week afterwards. the studios are nice enough very limited facilities and changing facilities. quite easy to get the the paddington studio, have signed up for more classes once my offer ran out
Totally awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed this as I had never taken to pilates before. The trainer made it very exciting for me and I enjoyed that I was with a friend that way it added a sense of competitiveness.
Great fun
It's been awhile now since I was introduced to Reformer Pilates at Pilates HQ through a mobdeal, and I am still going once a week! After my first 3 classes I was addicted and found this an enjoyable and relaxing form of exercise I could really stick with. The mobdeal was great value but outside that the classes are pretty pricey, but if you have the cash, can save by buying a block deal. The benefits I have seen after attending once a week since Oct have been great, i'm much more toned and I really look forward to my class every week. My only tiny complaint would be that the changing room is too small, especially before and after busy classes, and that when you are ready to move on from beginner classes, the intermediate classes are less frequent and at less convienant times. Hopefully once they are open for a bit longer though this will change. Another big plus is the online booking system - so convienant and you can also see how many people have signed up for the class as if you have specific issues, it can beneficial to pick less popular times where there are less people in the class (and occasionally you may be the only one!).
Great location right in the middle of Angel with a lovely, clean and airy studio. The Instructor was really friendly and the there was only 3 people in the class so we all got lots of attention!
I had never used the pilates machine and it was great to be taught how to use it.
Very friendly, well qualified staff, nice studio, and small enough an establishment to give clients personal attention and care. Good location with very handy nearby parking.
Great instructor, who was very helpful. It was a good workout for all levels (you can do easy or harder versions of all the workouts), Nice venue and equipment it's just a shame the changing room is so tiny.
I have been a member of Esporta for three years, but decided not to renew my membership last year after I felt the place had declined, especially the standards of the creche which was most important to me. I was send an invitation for a trial week after the management said they had improved many of the previous problems, so took them up on it and yes, was suitable impressed! I am now very happy to leave my son in the creche which he loves. I currently do 1-2-1 pilates in the studio with a great instructor and would recommend it to anyone. I find the membership and extras extremely great value, especially for such a convenient location. A nice place to just unwind and have a coffee too... I even have a friend who travels up from south London to visit Esporta twice a week!
I feel as though I am now getting addicted to dynamic Pilates after having done numerous classes. I took advantage of a free session and challenged myself to an advanced class with Sharon (as recommended by HQ Pilates) which was brilliant and different from the other classes I have done. This time we used the spring jumping board and we constantly jumped and sprung up (trampoline effect) whilst our bodies were horizontal. This means constant use of thighs, legs and calves get a good workout too. The hour flew by and was totally enjoyable. If you want to try something energetic, give the spring board a go! I would like to do more of these classes as very good cardio work out.
This is a fantastic, very professional little outfit where the attention to detail and individually tailored programmes are second to none - . they actually WORK amazingly well ! I shape up really quickly with their help - and so do most of the regulars - before your very eyes!
I've done both Pilates and Powerplate at several places, most much prettier than this, but the help and expertise here is incomparable. It is good value anyway but at Wahanda prices, its an absolute steal! And Simon, Alan, Gemma and the crew also happen to be nice! You don't feel an idiot, irrespective of how fat or unfit you are and one thing's certain - you're sure going to improve!!!
I very recently started Reformer Pilates at Beautcamp Fulham and totally love it! I was not sure what to expect but after seeing their website with pictures of the Reformer Pilates machines and the range of exercises that one can do, I knew instantly it was going to be something good and different.
I started this purely out of curiosity, but soon learned and felt that with the right instructor you get a great overall body workout. You don't realise just much of your body is being worked and you sure can feel the changes in the body. I have only done 6 classes and can feel the changes particularly in my abs, legs, thighs and butt. I also feel that my triceps are appear more toned too. This is probably due to the fact that the workouts consist of high repetitions. What's great is that the classes are small and intimate with one instructor, so you get that one-on-one attention. Each instructor has their own style and from having attended the classes, I really rate Ivo's classes which are a bit more intense but fun workout. I'm very pleasantly surprised at just how much I'm enjoying it as over the years I'd come to hate exercise but really love my workout sessions here. The staff are friendly, informative. Great atmosphere and I find Melanie (the Manager) to be extremely helpful and easy going.
I've already done six classes (one at another venue not even worth mentioning) and prefer Beautcamp Fulham because if its location being so easy to get to from work but have just learned the great news that they are about to open a new venue closer to home for me in Richmond! If you haven't tried I would 1000% recommend and am in the process of booking more classes with them.
I found my session at yourbodyactive absolutly brilliant!! I attended both a power plate session and a pilates session and both times everything was explained to me as to what I was doing and why I was doing it.
The power plates, and the straps (I cant remember their name) was a really intense work out, much harder than what I was expecting, which was standing on the plate until I get more toned!
The pilates session was totally different than what i was expecting. I have always struggled with achillies injuries when running, but when I did my pilates session it was pointed out as to why I kept having this repeated issue. Along with the inhury prevention part of my session the rest of it was a really tough work out that I really enjoyed, I thorougly recommend yourbodyactive and will definitly be continuing on with my sessions
Absolutely loved this studio, the trainer was really good and pushed you without going too far. really would go again. the equipment and the studio was extremely clean, and only has small classes for a more one to one feel. Would definately go again
the class was really good but more stretching than pushing yourself - i did hear that the classes differ on the trainer though. it was my first time on the reformers, I really like them.
Pilates HQ is tucked away in Angel, inside a commercial looking building but right by the tube so very handy for travelling to. The studio was very small, but also very light and airy due to the large windows. You were able to view your position in the mirror at most work stations, but not all, and the reformers were quite close together, meaning in some moves you were in danger of banging into the person next to you! (this did actually happen to me and my neighbour!) Apart from the small size of the studio, it was very clean and nice. The instructor was good, and worked you hard but seemed a little unapproachable. This isn't to say it was bad at all however! I would go again, but only on a special voucher as I think it is expensive per hour without a deal.
This was my first platform pilates class and I absolutely loved it! I enjoyed the way my muscles were being stretched and elongated really feeling my core being engaged. This workout is definitely superior than the mat pilates classes at the gym!
With only eights sets of equipment, each class ensures you get personal attention. The facilities are clean and tidy, and the instructor was friendly. You can book sessions online via their website. The first session is free regardless of whether you have a wahanda voucher or not.
I don't think TopNotch was top notch. Apart from the pilates instructor none of them were that interested in new members, there were not that many in the class so it was obvious if there were new people in the class. Again apart from the pilates teacher I got the strong impression the instructors saw the class as a way to top up on their fitness rather than focusing on the customer.
Petty competitive women in the changing rooms.
Great experience and staff, the studios are very well located and well maintained. The class was hard work but lots of fun. The teacher was great and maximum class size of 8 (i think) was a good amount. I would definitely return and try again.
A brilliant introduction to Pilates in a lovely bright, clean environment, and with a great instructor who was patient and clear in her instructions of using the complicated machinary. An all over body workout, although maybe a bit pricey to do on a regularly basis.
The gym is basic but had everything you need. The staff are very nice and helpful and the classes I attended were very good. There are only a few TV's and no radio facilities to listen to while training which I missed as I like some distraction. There is also squash court which are free for members to hire. Overall a good community gym with friendly staff and members.
I am currently looking for a pilates studio so tried the free offer at this one along with a few others. I really enjoyed the class and they work you really hard. I ached for the next few days, think that has alot to do with my lack of exercise! The only reason I would not choose this studio is the location. If i lived in West London I would choose this one.
what a great venue and local too I would definitely recommend to my friends and I am considering joining a pilates studio so this is one of a few i am considering. the instructors were informative and the class really made me work hard
Pretty good session actually. Much gentler than I had expected, although not sure what I was actually expecting. Only 2 others in my class so it was nice having a small class and the instructor can pay more attention to each of us and correct our postures etc everytime. Studio was clean, bright and airy. Very convenient located right opp Angel station.
This was my first time ever doing pilates and I was slightly apprehensive however, the staff were helpful, the facilities were clean and the trainer was gentle with me which I appreciated :o)
I have been doing pilates regularly for a couple of years now an this was definitely an effective and fun step up. It helps to have prevous pilates experience so you aren't concentrating and struggling with the machine instead of focussing on moves, also as the teacher isn't very attentive. Otherwise it was great fun for a free try out and ok value if paying full price as it feels more effective than usual pilates
I've done some reformer classes before and I really liked my first few sessions here so far. The beginner classes were pretty easy, but it was a great intro for me and my friend who had never done pilates at all. They took time to explain the equipment, breathing and technique, which some of the other places I've been to didn't talk about at all. I took a regular class for my 3rd visit and it was a lot harder! My legs and stomach felt like jelly the next day! I agree with some other comments that the change rooms are a bit on the small side. The studio is really bright and the staff are friendly.
The studio is central and nicely equipped. I've done some pilates before but enrolled in a beginners class which I thought would be a good introduction. The rhythm of the class was too slow - I walked out without breaking a sweat! The staff were so nice and I hate to be critical of them, but I really wouldn't recommend this place. There are far better pilates studios nearby.
The osteopathy session with Ian was thorough and the treatment helpful. I have been to other osteopaths for the same (shoulder) problem in the past and didn't expect to learn anything new but I did: it was very professional, insightful and I feel that I can improve my shoulder's condition. It was a hoilstic diagnosis and Ian advised me on other parts of my body that were linked to my shoulder problem. The pilates class with Charlie was a workout and the price reasonable - the floor mats weren't big enough though but that didn't affect the session. The class is suitable for all levels: great for a beginner and slightly gentler for someone advanced. Charlie did say that as the classes went on and people become more experienced, she would add different exercises.
My husband and I like the idea behind the power/dynamic pilates and we've been looking for a suitable place in the area, and appreciate the free trial that is being offered for new customers at Beautcamp. My husband found the style of the workout there to be focusing more on the high string resistance rather than stability and core exercises (usually with no strings) which he would have preferred. We probably wouldn't be back and will keep looking.
Really good workout, I could really feel that I had done a good work out afterwards.
Staff were really friendly, the admin staff and the instructor. The instructor was good walking around the room and making sure everyone did the work out properly but also got the most they could from it.
I'm really please with the overall experience.
Great trainer who was able to keep an eye on everyone from the experienced to the beginners. Very fast paced and could feel the benefits afterwards. I will be going again
Loved it
I went for power plates and the deal was fabulous - £20 for 4 sessions! I was a bit sceptical on my first visit as it was really busy and there was one trainer juggling four clients, and instead of having everyone do the same exercises she was trying to give a personalised experience for each which meant some people were left doing nothing. But when it came to my turn I realised that somehow, amazingly, it works - the trainer was totally able to tailor each person's session to their personal needs. The staff are absolutely amazing, all four of them remembering my name whether or not they've trained me or not, really welcoming and absolutely not intimidating at all. I tried the Pilates and found it really difficult but it's one of those things that probably takes more than one session to get the hang of. I wish I could go back but the full prices are just too expensive for me right now.=!
Facilities were ok, front door opens in to the studio, so there is a flow of people that may be coming or go while doing a session. There are two studios, the second is upstairs but their is not wall separating the two so you can look down and see the other, this means you can hear the other instructor as well...a bit off putting.
The instructor was really good. I came away feeling like I had had a really good work out.
I was a really enjoyable session.
the equipment looked scary for a novice like me but the instructor was very friendly and the class size was small enough for me to catch up. It was great fun and certainly a very effective workout. Highly recommended for anyone who wants tone up.
Absolute Pilates Plus is a fantastic concept. It is that boutique gym that we have all been seeking. The reformer pilates classes are amazing! Not to mention that you can use your credits for Boxercise, Spinning, Massages and much more.....With a simple pay as you go system there is no commitment to pay a monthly fee.
Greta atmosphere, fabulous trainers....and beautiful studio space.
I highly recommend Absolute Pilates!
The Lady that was training everyone was nice but not very interactive with me. As I was new i would have expected a little more attention however she was more involved in maintaining exsiting clients which i felt was not very warming. However the venue was great and the work out that I could get through was great I defintiely recommend this form of pilates, but i'll probably either use another instructor or another class somewhere else.
I just recently joined CRUNCH fitness after moving back to the Peninsula from the city. The management team at CRUNCH is way better than Golds gym and the YMCA (which I briefly joined in the city). The fun, exciting atmosphere enables me to enjoy working out.
On my second trip to the gym, I forgot my lock code. The management team was so helpful! They rushed to my side and opened my locker in less than 5 minutes. It was amazing!!! They also recommended a great new lock that will be easier for me to maneuver and it will be less likely for me to forget my code, since I get to program it myself. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
The Pilates instructor, Mary, was initially the driving force for me to join CRUNCH Redwood City. Her experience in Pilates, background as a professional ballerina, and fun music she plays really makes a great group class!
I love CRUNCH fitness!!!
I went to the pilates class in Bayswater. The venue was great and staff very friendly. I would recommend this class. It was very relaxing. It was a good class to go to with friends.
This is a Pilates class which really makes you sweat. Really tough workout, great instructor and nice ambience. We were only four people in the class, so perfect to get the most out of the training. Would definitively recommend this place.
Really enjoyable experience. never tried pilates on machine before. The machine is a new take on a pilates class, very effective, I was aching for days afterwards! However, the place is a bit small as there is a small rorm for leaving bags and only 1 shower.
The lesson was a beginners' one and pretty easy, but the teacher was good at checking technique and had a relaxing way of teaching, rather than shouting at you like some teachers do! However, the changing room is TINY - not great in winter when everyone is struggling with coats and boots.
I really enjoyed this class. I have been doing Bikram Yoga for 12 years so was quite keen to try something a little different. Woke up with aches in all the right places and felt great after class. Good teacher, friendly staff and a great workout.
The changing room was a long room with a mirror. smallish. The Pilates was done on this machine that you had to keep changing the spings for different movements. I would not call it pilates as I was just doing exercises with parts of the machine. I do regular Pilates and this was not the same. The workout is very athletic. I mean you have to be very strong to use this machine. Very tough too. If you are an athelete this would suit you. Nevertheless i must say my muscles did ache alot while doing it and for a coupl of days. I do see the benefits of this machine but I would not recommend people who are not doing regular excercises to do it. As it is tough on the legs!!
You actually do feel like you are in a beautcamp. Each exercise change is very fast and requires lifting heavy weights and some equipment too. If you have a strong body and do like challenges I would recommend you to do it. It is a great machine for very srong women.
Also the instructor kept telling me that I was doing really well everytime we changes to another excercise even though I clearly wasn't. It was encouraging in the beginning but soon i realised it was not true.Lol!
I would not do this type of Pilates again and I certainly would not pay a lot to do it too. It was an interesting experience though.
Great workout. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Even though it was my first time using the equipment, the trainer made me feel at ease straight away and was very encouraging throughout the session. The only thing that would affect my decision to go back is the distance (I live on the other side of London) and also the cost. But if those are not limiting factors for you, definitely give it a go!
The Egoist body studio is in a good location for me, I did both the classes in the evening after work. I liked that the classes were in small groups, the teacher is able to spend more time with each student and make corrections to the positions.
The building was nice and the room sizes were suitable for the class size. There is also a shower if needed.
The staff and teachers were all friendly and helpful. I would go to this studio again.
I've been to both mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates before and this is a good beginners to intermediate class. They are quite gentle with first-timers as my friend was, and it is not like some classes that may cause injury to people who aren't used to the machines (as a beginner a few years ago, I sustained an injury to my back by pushing myself too much on the Reformer machine so Pilates HQ is a good pace). The machine layout wasn't ideal in a tight space, but it is Angel, Islington and very conveniently located across from the tube. I am usually used to exerting myself a bit more in a Pilates class, but it was a good enough balance of exertion and relaxed stretching. I would highly recommend it to a those wanting to explore Reformer Pilates.
Very convenient location just near Angel tube. Small studio but very well fitted out and overlooking a terrace and rooftops with good light. The equipment was in good condition and well kept. Cleaned after every use. The teacher was first class and this was a good first introduction to Pilates for me.
Their "Systeme Dynamique" threw me off at first. Having done Pilates at a more traditional Pilates studio for about a year, I didn't understand why I was doing "regular" exercises, calisthenics, on the Reformer machine. I did some Googling to understand the system better, apparently it's "a combination of weight training and Pilates" designed to keep the heart rate up and burn extra calories. Fair enough. But I was missing the Pilates exercises I used to do, so I went through their instructor bios, and picked an instructor who's had a more traditional Pilates training. His classes are great, so now I try to make it every week!
Great classes, convenient venue and may have revolutionised pilates for me! Good quality equipment and good instructors (from my experience so far). There are lots of classes so you will always find a time that suits you. Easy booking system online. Only one shower and small changing room though, so better to get changed elsewhere if you can.
If your after a heardcore workout, then this is the place for you. Staff are great, venue is nice and the class is guaranteed to get your heart pumping. Definately worth a visit.
Staff are pretty disorganised and there isn't much space to get changed - but the reformers are good (and very effective - could hardly walk after the first session!!) The teacher was quite loud but makes you work hard - will be going back...
Lovely quiet studio and the Pilates instructor is lovely too. Class sizes are small which means you get attention from the instructor, especially if you are a beginner. The instructor is extremely patient with people who are new to Pilates and she ensures you get them right. I think it is worth the investment!
This was my first attempt at Pilates, let alone on a Pilates reformer machine
I arrived at the studio to find a bright very modern and relaxing space, in which to work out..
I was the only person booked into my time slot so had a one - to - one training sesion, i find the session tougher than expected but i think that was more getting used to the machine.
I would like to do more sessions on the reformer but at £25 a go i do think its quite pricey, i done mine on a free trial and i think the day before i went Wahanda done a Mobdeal offering 3 sessions with Pilates HQ for £25, had that have been the day after or if i were to see that offer again i would definitely book, but until there is another deal unfortunately i wont be booking again
I had a free trial here. The venue was very clean and airy, friendly receptionist and my instructor was very good at targeting the areas most women complain about. The location was very easy to find being right opposite angle tube station. Definitely worth another visit.
Went to Egoist with this trial - the studios are housed in this lovely Victorian building. Pilates on a Wednesday night was the perfect destresser after a long day - they had lit candles, and the instructor had a lovely calm manner, as well going round checking that everyone (max of 6-7 to a class) was doing the exercises correctly. Have also since tried Zumba here - again lots of fun! Intend to keep dropping in (£15 for a casual visit - steep, but on par with other gyms/classes).
Great ambience, fantastic teacher. It was a great workout. Small but stylist place, clean and bright. I enjoyed the classical pilates on mat and I will definitely go back again! I am looking forward to my next class!
This is the newest member of the Crunch family in NYC. They have up-to-date cardio equipment (all with individual TVs or a large one nearby) and the classes are challenging and fun. Just be sure to get there early if you want to get into a class because they fill up in advance.
Hard core pilates class. Given a quick introduction to the machine before you start, classes are small so you get lots of attention throughout the class.
Would go again. Only really suitable for people who have some pilates experience
First of all i would just like to say i only gave this place an ok for value as i have no idea what pilates classes cost & it wouldnt let me leave the field blank but everything else about Pilates HQ i can honestly give 10/10
I beleive the studio has only recetly opened, it all looks sparkly clean & the equipment all look brand new, and with a tiny garden/balcony area just outside the studio it really does create a tranquil enviroment
I had my first ever Pilates class Thursday morning at Pilates HQ, Pilates wasnt quite what i was expecting, i think i was expecting something more gentle & like Yoga (not that i have ever tried Yoga either) but instead i was introduced to a machine called the Pilates Reformer, a machine that you sit, lay, stand on while performing all manner of exercises, including things like the plank, sit ups, crunches, squats, it felt a bit like a bootcamp!
Would i go back?
Yes I think i would, im not sure i could afford weekly classes at £25 a go but while they are on offer & if they ever do another 3 classes for £25 mobdeal i will certainly be booking up
The tuition is good but the location is a little odd being inside an office building and the cost per visit wihout a Wahanda deal is a bit off putting, more expensive than other classes in the same area, which is a shame as this is the handiest for me.
I went to Frisco this summer with my family and happened across Trinity Wellness in a cute little building on main st. I attended several classes mostly pilates, both mat and equipment. What a wonderful location for a studio, but the instructor was horrible. She immediately struck me as rude and condecending. There were no more than four people in each of the classes and she spent more time looking at herself in the mirror than on helping us improve. Also for the level she taught at I was deeply disappointed by her rates, I would have expected far more for such a pricey menu.
I sent my dad and his partner, they throughly enjoyed it. They used the pool, gym equipment and spa facilities. The did a few classes too, so they were there the entire day. I dropped them there. It was easy to find, on lovely grounds. The sunny day made the whole experience even nicer. They had no complaints and would recommend a visit. I may book a day there myself
A unique studio offering membership for unlimited pilates mat classes. Some classes were excellent and some were less than. I would take any class with Deborah and Dorothy. They are the best and literally changed my body in 6 months of going there. I discovered muscles in my body that I never knew existed and my arms have never looked better.
Hmmm... I was hoping for a good work out, especially sicne there were only four of us in the class. The upside is that this work out is taylored to suit each participant, the downside is that a lot of time is being waisted on explaining each participant the proper way of doing each exercise. I definitely didn't get value for money here and won't be going back...
As I'm not generally a gym bunny I thought power plate would be a good way to build my strength (also as a young sufferer of Osteoporisis...at 30!) I wanted to up my bone density and its claimed power plates help.
The staff are great, so helpful at tailoring exercise to the individual, and also good at motivating you when your energy and willpower depletes!
Overall I'd recommend YouBodyActive over any gym, I've been back since and if I hadn't moved from the area I'd still go now, although normal prices are far too much making Wahanda offers a bonus
i have been going to Nuffield Health for about a month now and i am very satisfied with everything that i have seen, i have recieved a very warm welcome on every entry and when i go swimming i find the pool is never to busy and that the chlorine levels are very satisfactory as my eyes do not sting.
I had been a member at the Local Leisure Centre for the last 5 years until their swimming pool closed down recently. I looked for a tempory option whilst it was being refurbished. i chose Nuffield Health in leatherhead. Right from when i first stepped through the door until i put pen to paper and signed up i was made to feel welcome. Every member of staff greated you and had time for a quick chat. The club's cleanliness and all round feel was far superioir to anything i have ever experinced before. I am very happy to be a member and will not be returning to the leaisure centre even though my membership now is slightly more expensive.
It was a great workout and the teacher was very patient with everyone. I think it's a very different thing from Pilates, but it's suitable for people who look for a more energetic type of workout.
Unfortunately I only managed to get to 1 Pilates class. There were only 2 of us in the class so it was almost like having a private lesson. I was very impressed with the teacher who took time to talk to us before the lesson started to assess our experience of Pilates and then ensured that the content of the lesson was adapted to each of us as the other participant was quite experienced.
I would definitely go to any class that she was taking.
Highly recommended!! Realy good workout and felt great after. The instructer went round and corrected postures and was attentive. He also had a great vibe that made me want to push myself further! I have already got two of my friends going and planning to have a few more sessions at least!!
It had been a long while since I practised Pilates in a class so I was quite nervous when I turned up to my first session. The classes were small - which I preferred - which meant that our instructor was able to work with us individually and ensure that we were performing the stretches correctly. She was very friendly, patient and made sure we weren't pushing ourselves too hard that would lead to an injury. At the end of the sessions, she would give us a set of exercises to perform at home to help us progress and really get the best out of our classes.
The only thing that bothered me was that the classes were on quite late which meant a bit of hanging around after work, but there were very enjoyable and really did help tone my lower body up.
Class was good with a mix of guys and girls. The instructor was good as he walked around to ensure correct technique. A good strength work out, but would've enjoyed a stretch at the end.
Good class and great value with the Wahanda deal. Not sure I'd spend the money if I didn't have the deal. It was a good workout and better than a standard reformer class as we did work up a sweat.
I really loved Beautcamp. Have tried Heatcore but thought it too regimented, the room claustrophobic and the not really mich fun at all. Beautcamp on the other hand is great. There is much more space between reformers so you don't feel like you are on top of the next person. The classes are fun, with great music that really gets you going. The workout is tough, but really satisfying, with the right amount of stretching at the end so you don't feel in pain afterwards. The staff are all really friendly and welcoming, especially important if it is your first time and you don't know what you're doing....!
I have also tried the Boxilates class a coule of times, and loved it too.
Beautcamp Pilates is a great workout, really hard, but really good. I have had two trainers there, Niko and Barry and they were both really good and made you work hard, and helped the less experienced members in the group. The people on reception are also really freindly and helpful.
I think its a great work out and would definitely go again. My only reservation is that at £25 a go for an hour lesson, I would really like the facilities to be a little nicer. The toilet for example is in a shabby corridor and is just shared with some offices, and you have to walk through the training room to get there, which is off putting! The workout room itself is nothing special. So for me, Beautcamp pilates has excellent staff and is a great hard workout but the surroundings could be nicer for the money you pay. I would go again, but only with a discount.
I loved this studio and the pilates so much that I intend to book a package of classes. This is a really good workout and the staff are great. The location is great as well. The mobdeal was excellent but the classes are also really affordable in general.
Beautcamp pilates is absolutely amazing. It is challenging but fun! You can really feel the difference only after a few sessions (the first day after will hurt - but good hurt!). You definitely feel more toned and your posture will improve. They also have specialist classes like Beach body and Boxilates, which are fun and different from your traditional classes. I would highly recommend them to anyone who wants to tone up quick!
I love this place and the fact that they offer classes from 6am makes it a whole lot easier when you are strapped for time. The classes are so popular that if you are on the waiting list for a class which eventually becomes available, you have to snap it quick or it gets snapped up again.
I think the instructors are absolutely great and the reception staff are very friendly and helpful- I will definitely keep on going there. Strongly recommended!
Good value for money in theory, but many classes I wanted to go to were cancelled during the 10 days and then I had to travel to Wimbledon to be told this when it would have been polite to call people who made reservations for the class. Overall the classes I went to were good.
Started off amazing and some of the best classes I've done but throughout time of classes became unreliable with classes cancelled and changed and quality of classes deteriorating. Initially intended to continue but became very dissolusioned.
I had always wanted to attend a pilates class, but time and finances were not on my side, until I noticed the Wahanda offer for Kinesis studios, which are very local to me. I was warmly greeted upon my arrival and taken through a full body assessment of posture and breathing. There was only myself and one other participant in the class so I felt that the teacher was able to individually tailor to my requirements and weaknesses.
The next 45 minutes were given over to a set of exacting stretches and location-finding of muscle groups, using the extraordinary equipment that Pilates is famed for. I felt absolutely marvellous at the end of the session and can't wait to enjoy my remaining two sessions and this has given me the push to incorporate Pilates into my life for good!
Frame is a really unique dance/fitness studio. It doesn't have that super shiny, almost medicinal look that some gyms have, and it doesn't have the slightly intimidating look (that makes me wonder if I need to be a professional dancer to be there) that some dance studios have. It's really cozy and friendly: breakfasts in the morning, magazines on a communal table at reception, from what I heard, makeup people on Friday nights (no receptionist whose smile looks really fake and has too much make up on). The variety of classes is great! There are also bootcamps, courses, and one-off workshops. My favorite part is, no membership fees! You can just pay-as-you-go. And every month, there are usually some sort of deals and specials going on.
It's really easy to book on their website, if you know exactly what you want and know where to go. Sometimes it's hard to get info on some of their classes, workshops, or courses. It's not the most meticulously-maintained website, I get a lot of dead ends (http://www.moveyourframe.com/classes/body-conditioning). When I was considering signing up for a Pilates course, I had to go round and round looking for the price and how many days per week it was. I finally gave up and asked them via email, but when they responded, they just told me when the course started. I ended up just signing up for one-off classes (it was class of the month and it was cheaper that way).
Once you figure out which classes you want to take, when they are (you have to look the the schedule for the whole week to figure out when the class you want will be, the class descriptions don't usually tell you), and get some credit on your Frame card, booking your class is a snap.
been looking for a pilates reformer centre since coming back from new york. Found these guys and found the classes to be hard but very pilates based unlike some i have tried in london. Teachers are friendly and experienced and have really enjoyed my sessions. Value for money when you buy a block of sessions.
I went to the TenPilates Notting Hill studio and had a brilliant session - you get the experience of a personal trainer but have the fun of a group class. The facilities are spot-less and I left feeling as though I had had a thorough work-out.
I loved this place! A fantastic workout (I was sore for days, in a good way) in an attractive, clean setting. I had Brooke as an instructor and I thought she was fab. Would recommend for anyone looking for a fun, dynamic workout!
About 15 years ago, I was feeling my age. Feet hurt, backaches, shoulder pain, headaches AND way too much stress at work. A medical practicioner suggested Pilates might be helpful. At the time Pilates work was pretty much a secret and you had to search for a studio.
I found it. Right here in my own backyard. Down here in the south end of the city, where I least expected it. No hassles with parking at $8/hour downtown. Right at the 101 Third St exit. So I could swing by after a grueling day in Palo Alto, have a session and be home in minutes. No more fighting traffic to get to Noe Valley, the Mission or downtown.
And I'm not talking about some group class where you occasionally get poked by some kid who barely got a piece of paper saying they could teach a mat class. No, indeed. This is a world class teacher who does 1:1 (that's one on one in geekspeak). And the studio has all the fancy machines you'd expect.
Have you ever water skied? Ya gotta have core strength to lift yourself up without a rude awakening. Pilates helped me gain that kind of strength. Now my shoulder doesn't hurt, my feet feel great, my back is limber. Even the headaches are better - but I'm still staring too much at the computer screen.
Now this is serious stuff - you have to commit to two classes a week for several months to get real improvement. It isn't enough to do all that lunchtime aerobics stuff. Pilates is precision work - kind of like ballet, but with machines. You really need that personal improvement focus that 1:1 Pilates brings to begin to know your body well enough to excel at competitive activity.
So GO FOR IT!
The staff are incredibly lovely and the whole experience was bliss. (Pilates is hard work and I ached for days, but it was still a great experience!)
Really easy to organise and book, and I will definitely do this again if another deal comes up.
The facilities here are beautiful as far as a gym goes and also immaculate. Many people complain about the cost, but if you are a dedicated gym person then Equinox is great. All the equipment is brand new. The classes are amazing and the intructors are all top notch. You'll get much more interesting and diverse set of classes than you would at any other gym. Not to mention if you want to develop a personal training system, all of their trainers are excellent. They do a fitness test to asses your level of fitness even before they begin.
Went along after reading good reviews on the internet and was offered a free trial. I have had 3 classes since then. I was slightly concerned about using the 'reformer' but it's a lot easier than it looks and the trainers explain it all in a couple of minutes.
I would describe myself as not very fit so I do the basics but the trainer also suggests slight changes in the moves for more advanced clients. The excercises are varied and the routines have all been different each time. There are definitely some moves I would struggle to do at all without the reformer so it is very good for stretching and working muscles that I normally wouldn't.
So far I've had 3 different trainers and all have been good. Thankfully they encourage rather than bully us into pushing ourselves further. I definitely feel I've had a proper full body workout at the end of the class. My face is always bright pink in testament to that as it's sweaty work!
I have bought 10 lessons as it's a lot cheaper to buy in bulk. It's more than I normally spend on classes but the classes are small so if you are doing a move incorrectly you are quickly spotted and helped into the correct position. The reformers really make a big difference to the movements you are able to do. I will review how fit I feel after 10 classes but I suspect I will be buying many more.
Writing on behalf of my partner who I dragged along with me and he got a lot of value out of the classes. Groups no larger than 4 people mean its a really comfortable environment, and both times there have actually been more guys than gals!
Had a free trial at Heartcore and it was one of the best Pilates sessions I've had. I've done studio pilates and yoga before in a gym environment but this takes it to another level, this was definetely challenging! The instructor explained the reformer to me and was great at correcting positions due to the small class size . She was also quite hard on us, which I appreciated to get the most out of the session.
Welcoming staff with extensive knowledge of classical pilates and how the body works. Fantastic exercise, my back is in better condition and I have not had to visit my chiropracter for over a year as a result. Many thanks Lesley, Don and all the staff.
Sandie is great- she can identify issues with you posture and muscles at a glance and works closely with you to rectify. After 10 weeks there was a noticeable difference in my muscle tone, posture and strength. Really enjoyed it!
I've visited Your Active Body in Richmond many times now, and can thoroughly recommend it. This is a great venue with an excellent attentive team, who will work will you ensuring that you achieve (and maintain!) the correct posture and maximise the benefits of each session.
Yes I agree with Annabel - should be called 'Hardcore Pilates' instead! The thought of doing it again makes my body recoil in pain and fear! I really didn't enjoy this class and definitely won't be going back, but that is definitely personal preference on the type of exercise I enjoy rather than a reflection on the venue or class. I can see why other people go (I imagine you must get great results based on the intensity) and the venue and facilities were excellent, clean, professional.
I love normal pilates, but even though I have been doing normal pilates for almost three months now, I found this impossible to do all the moves, could not keep up, and was close to walking out on many occasions. I have bad wrists and it seemed like a large percentage of the class we had to put our weight on our wrists in order to do the exercises and it was simply far to painful for my wrists.
The instructor was nice and friendly, but she was quite a 'bad cop' character, trying to push people to do the moves. I can see why because of the nature of the class you have to push yourself hard, but for me having someone tell me off when I am seriously struggling and trying with sore wrists (rather than suggest easier beginners option / alternative move) is simply not a style of training I react well to. It's too hardcore for me and I didn't find it fun, but it is clearly a popular class that gets results. If you like a serious challenge and are not afraid of pain and are totally injury free, try out a free class and see what you think.
very good Class, hdelped toned my body
love the fact that you can buy the DVD's to follow at home.
I've been going to sessions at Steve Jordan pilates since September 2008 and now that I've found london's best pilates class, I won't be going anywhere else. I had been to a number of classes within my gym but didn't find them to be effective or very interesting. At Steve Jordan Pilates, you certainly get a workout and with the the small classes (no more than 6) you get the attention necessary to be able to correct any flaws in your technique. Steve Jordan Pilates definitely gets my vote!
A small, friendly, relaxed Pilates studio with a cutting edge technique is just what East London has been waiting for. The studio is spacious, clean, bright and modern and resembles a New York loft. There are even nice touches like fresh apples in reception. Daniel Le Roux's hour long classes are fun, energetic and set to great music. He is really passionate about teaching and it shows. if you want fast results and a technique that completely tones up your body and increases your strength and stamina then this is the place to go. Tempopilates is more addictive than chocolate and much better for your hips!
I haven't gone yet but wanted to mention quickly that their 'customer service' person in Mayfair was terribly unhelpful and useless. I simply wanted to find out about a certain kind of class; she referred me to the NottingHill branch, didn't have their number or a name I could contact, and didn't tell me straight out that the classes I was inquiring about weren't conducted at their facility. Totally put me off wanting to attend classes there.
Tempopilates is a brand new, state-of-the-art Pilates studio in East London. If you are looking for a 'fun class' to loose weight and to keep fit without the hefty joining fee and restrictions of a lengthy contract of joining a gym, then check it out. I love the 'Aerobic Pilates' classes which is an intense high calorie burn session to great music that only lasts for only an hour, and believe me if you are a 'clock-watcher' the time flies in! Daniel le Roux is great motivator and his classes are relaxed and fun. Best studio London has seen yet.
Lovely way to start the day. Was welcomed with ambient music and a glass of mint water which was such a lovely touch. The class was a beginners so not too hard and Laura was a friendly instructor who put you at ease I am looking forward to warmer weather so I can start her pilates classes in the park!
Wow. This was an unexpected find. I'd been committed to gym work-outs, a few two-mile runs each week and some yoga but I realised after a session with Daniel at Tempo I'd not been stretching myself enough nor giving attention to a lot of muscle groups. I'd also thought PIlates was, well, not blokish enough. We live and learn. This was a great work out and the reformer keeps your body really secure while you push parts of your body other forms of exercise cannot reach! Really cool ambience too, lots of light and nice hot showers! Dig the orchid. And there's a cool cafe in the building too. Can't recommend it more highly.
I've been training for the London Marathon and when I went to a specialist running shop to buy some new shoes they looked at how I ran and recommended I "strengthen my core", sadly lacking after two children and eating too much cake, and try Pilates. I signed up with Steve Jordan Pilates, just round the corner from me near Tower Bridge Road in SE1, and had two one-on-one sessions with an excellent, thoroughly professional teacher Tracey Boles, a former triathalon athlete who is super fit/toned (there are two other very good teachers). I've now joined small, group sessions and am really beginning to notice the difference. You do this thing called Roll Downs where you have to stand against a wall and slowly curve your spine up and down, feeling every single vertebrae. Some of it feels quite meditative, like yoga.
With my running and Pilates I feel like my body is getting a complete workout.
This is some of the best AND best value Pilates in London. Steve Jordan developed a strenous and disciplned workout which is now being used at the studios in Bermondsey and Aldgate and has no comparison with the type of classes available in commercial gyms. The brilliant tutors give you tailored feedback and really work you to your limits. They're from different disciplines so they can help you with posture, breathing and work that you can continue at home. If you took 2 of these classes a week for a month you would see visible results in strength and agility. It's fab
This has been my third week at Your Body Active, after purchasing a Mobdeal entitling me to a month's pass. The studio is compact and is located in the heart of Richmond high street and the classes are small and intimate. I have now had in excess of 10 pilates lessons and can say that I have noticed a massive difference in my body and the muscles I use. Because the classes are small, never larger than 4, the instructors Gemma and Alan are able to be very hands on and ensure that the movements you are doing are done correctly! I am definitely going to continue my classes here!!
I started going to SteveJordan Pilates in Bermondsey after an initial telephone conversation with John - mid January 2010. Its now March and I can truly say that it is a New Years Resolution that I intend to maintain!
Previous pilates classes I have attended, I have left me feeling confused and dizzy as I was not taught to breath correctly. The trainers I have experienced to date Tracey and Sabrina are amazing and under their supervision I am breathing correctly, have discovered muscles and movements that I never knew I had or could do! Additionally after just 5 weeks, I feel leaner, more toned, the clicking in my knee has reduced, my back seems stronger and seems to be aligning itself to how it should be and more importantly I am more aware of my core body and my posture.
Attending the smaller classes are ideal for me as I benefit from a more personal approach and also the trainers can spot easily when are I am doing a wrong movement, having difficulty or just slacking! Also you can see that they really care about how you are developing and rightly or wrongly encourage good pain after a class! Many have said that pilates in general is costly, but personally my opinion is that you get what you pay for! The only down side for me is that the studio I attend is about an hour or so away from where I live. A part from that SteveJordan Pilates is definitely meeting all the criteria that I need - professional, experienced, flexible, friendly... I am really happy with them and glad I found them and will highly recommend them to others.
Having been a regular pilates student for the past three years in Melbourne, I was keen to find a studio in London that could offer me the same high-quality and personalised service I experienced in my boutique city studio at home. I had been warned against gyms offering pilates amongst their myriad other classes and services, and wanted an experienced and professional studio specialising in pilates only. Steve Jordan has offered me just that. The instructors are highly competent and knowledgeable, and more than willing to adjust the focus of the session to individual weaknesses and injuries. The classes are highly organised, run to time, and are very easy to schedule via the studio's online booking system. The staff are friendly, highly professional, and eager to help with any questions or concerns that may arise. I would highly recommend the studio to anyone looking for high-quality pilates instruction in London.
I am in my sixth Pilates session at the Bermondsey studio, and I could not be happier. I discovered it just passing by taking my little boy to nursery. I felt very curious about the studio. When I read their leaflet, what caught my attention was their guarantee for results within your first three sessions. After the pregnancy and birth of my son, bad posture had totally taken over my body: rounded shoulders, tremendous tension in my neck… My body was screaming for help. I was in need of a type of exercise that could give me strength in my core, which was totally gone after the pregnancy.
After having a chat with John, the director of the Bermondsey studio, I decided to give it a try and went for the assessment sessions. My surprise was that just after the first assessment session my body gained a lot of awareness. I was able to catch myself in a bad position and correct myself quicker. And as it said in the leaflet, after a few sessions I have noticed a change in the strength of my core and upper body. My neck feels better and my awareness has increased a lot. I have worked with the three teachers at the Bermondsey studio and they are great. They are very professional, knowledgeable and patient. I must say that for me it is a bit of an economic effort, but it is worth it. Steve Jordan pilates is having a very positive impact on my well-being.

I had a one hour session with Sandie at Personal Pilates yesterday with the Wahanda offer of a free class. The other person had cancelled so I was able to take full advantage of having a 1:2:1 session with her.
What can I say? Sandie, apart from being the most loveliest person you could ever wish to meet, was amazing! She took one look at me in standing and knew exactly where my weak areas were. I've had issues with my knees and foot positioning which have been effecting me when I run and with my posture. We started work straight away and I really felt the exercises she showed me started to take affect within the hour. Sandie showed me how to improve my breathing and engage the muscles I have been neglecting. The principles of which I have been practicing all day!
Sandie is incredibly knowledgeable and for people like me who have struggle with co-ordination, she is very patient, encouraging and I thoroughly enjoyed the hour. I will definitely be signing up for her sessions next month!
I started Beginners Pilates at Vital Body about three/four weeks ago and am really enjoying it. Jade is really great and takes the time to come around the class and help everyone out. I'd tried pilates before in gyms and didn't have a good experience as I felt it was really rushed, impersonal, and without proper instructions - but at vital body it's totally different. The class sizes are deliberately small so you get a personal experience and help and don't feel like you're being left behind or doing the wrong thing. If you're looking to start pilates, I would thoroughly recommend Vital Body.
I love my pilates class - for me, pilates allows me some personal "me" time, as well as all the benefits of a work-out that ensures that my posture and core strength remain strong. As a busy working mother.......an hour's class at SJP is bliss and the sense of achievement after a session, lasts throughout the day.
After suffering with a shoulder injury from a car crash some 8 years ago, I joined SJP at the beginning of 2010 on the recommendation of a physio. I admit that I was very sceptical about pilates in general and could fail to see how a bunch of breathing exercises (yes, I really was that ignorant) could possibly help where other treatment I had received had failed! How wrong I was.......after my first 1 to 1 lesson, I was huffing and puffing and feeling muscles in parts of my body that I had never felt before! I have now completed 8 weeks at SJP, attending 2 sessions a week and the difference it has made is truly incredible. The pain in my shoulder has subsided, my shoulders are noticebly lowering and my posture has improved. Previously, I used to suffer from pins and needles in my left arm from my shoulder injury and this has not happened for 4 weeks now. The teachers are all fantastic (particular shout out for Tracey who has really encouraged and supported me) and really make an effort to get to know you, your injuries, and then work with you to improve these problem areas. The classes are small (maximum of 6 people) so the teachers are able to watch everyone closely and push everyone to their own max. The exercises are hard work and you really feel like you have pushed yourself by the end of each session. I always notice how much better I walk and stand after each session and I look forward to going each week which is pretty impressive for someone who has not set foot in a gym for many years!! All in all, I completely recommend giving SJP a try for yourself.....particularly those who, like me, had previously scoffed at this form of treatment, it just might be the cure you were looking for, this has certainly been the best treatment for me!!!
I found Steve Jordan Pilates after my previous studio closed down and I couldn't believe the difference it made. SJP is much more professional, the classes are small (max 6) and the teachers are top notch, enthusiastic and really care about your wellbeing and progress. I can only go to one class a week but I really notice the difference in how my back & neck feels if I miss for a week or two. I can't recommend SJP more highly - it really works.
I took full advantage of the Wahanda offer of a free personal pilates class and went along to my lesson not knowing what to expect.Upon arrival, I was immediately put at ease by Sandie's demeanor and informed that the other person had cancelled so I would be having a one to one session with her! I filled out a detailed health form and looked around at all the contraptions and thought, what have I let myself in for!!
I was asked to stand as I normally would........and all I can say is WOW! Sandie was able to identify errors in my posture, give me reasons for my back pain and point out muscles that I was not using. She started work immediately on my target areas, showing me what looked easy, but were very difficult, but gentle exercises which started by building my core and focused on my breathing. The hour flew by and I felt like I had had a strenuous work out.
I loved Sandie's hands on approach and she was very knowledgeable about physiology and anatomy. I was so impressed by my experience that I will definitely be back for more as I feel from my initial visit that personal pilates will be a real benefit to me in the future.
Have you ever tried Pilates in your crowded gym?
Have you found it boring, easy and just a waste of time?
Well, you have never tried what the real Pilates is!!!
Pilates is not boring, is really challenging, it's a really demanding activity, even really tough and if you practice is properly you can feel and see the difference by yourself!
Pilates seems to have became pretty popular and the problem is that many people thing they are doing PIlates while they ignore what Pilates is.
Pilates is not a trend, is a dofferent way to work out ad use and get to know your body and your muscles.
I have been doing a very good Pilates and when moved to London missed a good class.
Untill I haven't met John and SJP studio!
When I have walked in I immediately recognized the good signs and the evidences of a serious studio: these guys knew what Pilates is and they were what I was looking for!
My first impressions have been confirmed as soon as I did my my first class: instructors are so kind, attentive and precise that there's really no way to cheat - you have to work and they keep you constantly challenged!
No jokes, they know what Pilates is, they are passionate about it, the have experienced it and they know how important a good training is.
So, if you find your gym Pilates-like classes are boring, give real-Pilates a try. One class is enough to try and see the difference.
Needless to say, try a true Pilates class at SJP !
As an office based 30 year old male, I have been using Steve Jordan Pilates for two years now and they have changed my posture, upper body strength, physique and mental well being. The tutors are all sparky and charming and the small class size affords very personal tuition. Since starting pilates I have relinquished regular gym workouts - no need. I simply run and swim perhaps once a week and Steve Jordan Pilates does the rest. The customers lend a community feel to the set up and all are welcoming. Recommended.
After trying an osteopath, chiropractor, gp, massage nothing was working for my lower back disc problem. Very happy to have found SJP as within a few months am now running again. SJP pilates is hard core and you will feel it the next day but it works!
I'm so impressed by Ten Pilates that I'm telling everyone about them. The instructors are great and because the classes are small everyone gets a lot of one to one attention.
The workout is suprisingly tough and at a constant pace so I've already noticed a change in my posture and tone after only 3 classes.
The only down side is that classes are a bit pricey but the level of individual attention the instructors give makes it feel like a personal training session.
I'm not a natural fan of exercise so I'm happy to have found something that I really enjoy.
This is my 3rd year of Pilates at this small and friendly run studio. On reaching 50 everything just seem to grind to a halt; hips, shoulders, ankles, knees. After creating my own MOT via St Thomas' hospital and nothing getting fixed, a locum GP recommended Pilates. I did my research and picked out Steve Jordan and never looked back. The guy changed my life! Small classes, attention to detail, it's like having a personal trainer. A very dedicated team continue the exceptional style of Pilates that Steve Jordan now delivers in his native South Africa. It just gets better and better. I feel great - no more aches and pains - the care and attention to detail is second to none. If you are serious about your well being and fitness - this is the place!

Over the years, my father meticously recorded our heights with pencil lines on the side of a tall cabinet in the kitchen. I had been doing Pilates for about a year when I noticed my younger brother's growth spurt was recorded and showed that in the last couple of years he had hit 6' 2" and had outstripped me, his 'big' brother, by a couple of inches. In retaliation, I said, "In theory, I should be taller because of the Pilates classes." Nobody believed it would be possible but I took my shoes off and stood up against the cabinet... I was 8mm taller! The sales patter for Pilates is that it makes you longer and leaner. Aye, it does. I've continued since then with the Pilates - 10 years now - don't worry, you don't continue to grow at 8mm a year!

I have been suffering from backache for a good few years now because of the sins in my youth and have also not been playing sports as actively as I used to. Since my sessions at SJP I have not only been re-energised (started running and playing football again) but my back pain and stiff lower back has also been cured (after two months!!!) - I am now not only much more suttle but also feel the positive effects of my improved posture all day long, from sitting at work to walking down the street and even just lying in bed! My friends and colleagues have also noticed the difference (no, I do not gym and yes, I'm taller now:) - thanks SJP!
I live in Wimbledon and have searched far and wide for a fab location for wellness. Here it is! I have tried both dynamic yoga and pilates and love them! The classes are super small - which is great as im not amazing at poses! Teachers are lovely - plus i got a great introductory offer as well!
I had never tried pilates before so I went to Kinesis for a beginners lesson and I have to say I was really impressed. I have quite a few friends and family who rave about this place and I can now understand why.
I had a 1:1 session with Lucy who really took the time to understand my body. Pilates is not like a regular exercise class as its really about isolating and focusing on key muscles one exercise at a time. At times you are not sure what impact it is having but afterwards you feel it and you really feel more connected with your body. Lucy was really knowledgeable and explained each exercise as we went along and point out how my body was reacting.
The studio is clean, airy and bright and you feel you are in good hands. If you are looking for a great Pilates studio in and around holland park, notting hill or Kensal rise then this could be the one for you. I am definitely looking forward to going back.
At my arrival at the training center in Chiswick my first impression was that the place could be better located. Nevertheless, it is still in the center of Chiswick, it is well signed and therefore quite easy to find.
I was treated very nicely at the reception and my registration was handled effectively and quickly. Soon thereafter, my trainer who was waiting for me at the reception took me and my friend to the class room. In the room were only four places to practice. The small size of class is much more comfortable for beginners and this is exactly what I wished before my first attendance.. I was instructed and watched by the trainer and his assistance, which was absolutely great and very important for me as a beginner. Both, the instructor and the assistance were very knowledgeable, nice and funny. They always kept an eye on all of us and corrected us when needed.
As I arrived late, I unfortunately missed the introduction and the viewing. The next time, however, I will definitely check out the whole place.
Ludlow Fitness is great for the price and one of the few full-service gyms in the lower east side. I usually use the machines and weights--they have all the standard equipment (e.g. ellipticals, bikes, stairmasters, treadmills, free weights, weight machines). Occasionally I'll try the classes, too. I've been to both Spinning and Pilates classes and I was happy with both.
The facilities are fine, although the locker rooms leave something to be desired. They are pretty small and there isn't much locker space.
I regularly do spinning and pilates here at fitness first in shepherds bush. The reason i chose this gym was because it was the best value in the area for a person like me who wants to do a few classes in a week. The place is looking a little tired but it has everything you need except a pool and is fairly clean.
The spin class is great and just what you would expect, a sweat fest. The instructor did his job made sure we were all correctly positioned on our bikes and provided plenty of motivation.
I am getting used to the pilates class here. The instructor is male and i don't know if this always applies as i have only worked with one other male pilates instructor but i have found that male instructors tend to work at a higher speed than the female ones that i have worked with. Its not a bad thing but i wouldn't want to be doing his class if i was a beginner. Having said that he does a good job of explaining every move thoroughly and does a bit of individual checking during the class. So overall i am happy with the class and will stick with it.
This place should be called Hardcore instead! I went using the free session available on Wahanda and was not exactly sure of what the experience would be like. I have done a lot of pilates in my life but this was intense. I was close to giving up (I did cheat a little here and there) but there was a 5 month pregnant woman who was schooling me so I kept on. Heartcore basically pairs strength and endurance, circuit-like, training with pilates and boy oh boy is it a workout. I couldn't move for nearly a week. But I am going back for more.
As gyms go, Body Works West is a sanctuary. Upon entry, there are aromatherapy candles burning and a bright and light atmosphere. There is a host of different offerings from pilates (extra cost) to boxing circuits to yoga, plus one free personal training session a month. The facilities are state-of-the-art and the staff are friendly and helpful. There is also a pool and a sauna and lovely dressing rooms with nice products and amenities. I have never been so positive about going to a gym!
The club has been through a fantastic transformation and the treatment area is lovely. All the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and the place really has a lovely atomosphere. Rachel is the beauty therapist - I had a fab manicure with great attention to detail. As you would expect the classes are taught by extremely qualified and professional instructors. Value for money, great atomosphere and wow what an amazing place that you would never expect behind small doors!!
Really generous sized studios - having checked out Fitness First Black Label nearby the comparison was unbelievable. The classes are great and all the instructors are the highest standard - it's the gym they use for all the training of "Body" classes - Combat, Attack, Balance etc so they get the pick of the best.
It's the best Virgin gym to join in the area as it doesn't have a pool so the membership is a bit cheaper, while you can still use Strand and Marylebone whenever you want.
It is a bit pricier than the basic gyms nearby, but the facilities reflect that cost.
I took the free offer advertised on Wahanda.
I took my first class on Saturday morning. I knew roughly what to expect after watching youtube videos but nothing could prepare for the muscles that hurt the next two days! My thighs felt like they'd never been used before and my arms ached to the degree in hurt to undress. Hence showing how unfit I am.
This aside, the lady on reception was very helpful, Barry, the instructor was very supportive and I knew from the beginning I could take a break when I needed. The studio is air conditioned which is especially handy in the height of the summer. There's also a water dispenser which is great for those who don't want to fill their gym bag with more than they need to.
I have since been back twice more. The earlybird instructor Niki is just as helpful as Barry and varies the routines throughout the week. After 3 classes I can safely say none of them have felt like an hour thanks to the constant exercise changes. I usually get bored with exercise very quickly, not knowing what's coming next has made the classes far more enjoyable.
After my third class I hurt far less which proves my muscles have woken up and I'm on my way (fingers crossed) to that toned, suimmer body I want!
On my last visit I used the shower facilities. The studio will happily supply you with a towel, all the shampoo, conditioner and deodorant you could ever imagine and to top it all off a hair dryer. I take the 6am classes and go to work after the class so it's really handy not to have to take your wash bag with you. At £12 a session, the early bird session is a steel.
The studio has a great atmosphere, there's none of the pretentiousness i've found in other gyms, the people are friendly and it's very good value for money.
Heartcore is a brilliant pilates concept that uses traditional pilates techniques mixed in with a more active/cardio workout. The class is about 50 mins long and is taught on “Reformers”. These are highly customized apparatus that resemble a traditional Pilates Reformer, but have been modified to better suit the unique method practiced by Heartcore.
They now have studios in Kensington, Hampstead and Notting Hill. I have been to both Kensington and Notting Hill studio’s and they are both great! The staff is always professional and works you hard and as the classes are small (about 5-6 per class) you feel like you are really given the attention you need to perform each exercise correctly.
I would definitely recommend Heartcore to anyone wishing to tone their bodies in a long-lasting and non aggressive way in classes that are never boring and always different.
I am a keen Life Centre "yogi" - excellent teachers plus offer a wide range of classes, has something for the absolute beginner to the more advanced Hatha/Ashtanga yogi. The only downside is that popular classes get extremely crowded and it seems that they do not limit the number of people that can attend a class. Pressure has come off a little since TLC opened a second studio in the loft (although its too small!). Also offer some great massages / reflexology / homeopathy etc.
A MUST "one stop shop" for any mum-to-be; Tara Lee (famour for her pre natal yoga DVD) teaches the BEST ever pre natal yoga class, there are also some fun mummy and baby classes, baby massage etc. Recently also started activities for children/families which look fun, although I have not tried these yet (ex. cooking class for under 5's, painting etc).
Prefer TLC to for ex. Triyoga and some of the other larger yoga centres in central London, but again I guess the downside of this more intimate atmosphere is that it can sometimes become a little crowded. No longer the hidden gem of London for yogis but definitely a GEM! No membership required. Would be fun if they could open a cafe like Triyoga in Primrose Hill, but again I presume they are limited due to space.
Went to the Soma Centre as a friend of mine recommended their Pilates and Yoga classes. Some of the teachers also teach at the Life Centre (Notting Hill) but luckily this venue is less crowded than the Life Centre. Soma offers good value for money packages (eg. buy 10 classes) and no membership required which is welcomed in London where most places are membership only (or if they are not they tend to get a little crowded, e.g. The Life Centre). Nice clean changing rooms and I am told a nice sauna area.
Being lucky enough to be asked along to join in a class at Beautcamp I immediately said yes. I'm trying to get fit and toned again after a few months off and thought this would be a great idea (pathetically throwing myself round the local park has not given me the inspiration yet).
On arrival, a class was already in full swing and after observing a couple of minutes I must admit I started to feel slightly apprehensive. The ominous black benches with springs, pulleys and poles looked...well...rather scary! Not for the faint hearted. However the atmosphere and staff are really friendly and our gorgeous trainer (oh yes ladies) soon demystified the black bench with all its contraptions.
Several big giggle fits and pilate based positions later using the pulleys around either your ankles or hands for resistance, I was already surprisingly sweaty. Had the heating been turned up? No. For the first time in ages I was getting a real full body workout! You really are expertly put through your paces, getting individual help making sure you're breathing through the exercise correctly and are in the correct position. I think there were roughly 8 people in the class which almost makes you feel like you're getting a personal training session.
Apart from concentrating on your core muscles and breathing technique to achieve a leaner more toned body, Beautcamp is really nothing like your traditional pilates class. I was knackered (but had that good feeling like you do after burning it up at the gym), had wobbly legs, and walked like a granny for a couple of days after. Now I'm sure you don't get with a regular pilates class, however I absolutely loved it and am definitely going back.
I was lucky enough to be invited to Wahanda's Wellness Club and got the chance to sample this express form of pilates! This definitely isn't for the faint hearted, but if you're looking for a way to get fit quick and you're not keen on the gym, this class will make a very refreshing change!
It's definitely a work-out with a difference.. moving plates, adjustable springs, stirrups, wooden poles, weights and lots more. Puts you in positions you'd probably rather not be in, but afterwards you feel absolutely fantastic. I was lucky enough to win the prize draw at the end of the session, of 5 more FREE classes woohoo! Thank you Wahanda :) Although I'll be donating half of them to a friend who seemed to get the knack of it a tad better than me! Excited to have found a new way to exercise.
I must admit that session at Beautcamp Pilates was great surprise and very interesting experience. I was quite sceptic about it. When I got in the studio and I had a chance to see the equipment I wasn’t sure if this is what I may like. It really looked quite complicated at first glimpse, but as I found out later it wasn’t so bad!
I have never tried Pilates before but I heard that it is very relaxing, isn’t it? Not being sure what to expect I was even thinking that at some point it can be even boring. Now I know - I was so wrong! It was very energetic excesses. Due to the fact that it was beginners’ class I had a chance to learn everything. The trainer was really nice and with great patience was explaining us what to do and how, making sure we were doing it correctly.
The scary machine wasn’t so scary at all. After a while I can say it was quite easy. All the moving platforms, strings, sticks etc give the opportunity to do a lot of various types of exercise for all kinds of mussels; even those which you have never felt before. It makes this exercise very lively experience.
There was only one think which could be better. The changing room did not have any lockers, shelves of hangers to keep the clothes on. Besides this all was fine.
I won the chance to have a free class at Beautcamp. I went expecting to roll out a mat and do a series of yoga like exercises. Instead I was presented with an exercise machine unlike any I'd seen before and a work out that didn't give me any time to get bored.
What at first looked faintly terrifying turned out to be great fun. Hard work, but good fun. Using the ropes, sticks and springs we were given a sweat and, it has to be said, pain inducing work out. We did a variety of exercises, which stopped everything from getting simply impossible and too dull.
The instructor was attentive and forgiving, he didn't make you feel bad for not being superwoman - though stick with these exercises and you might well see yourself transform...
I'd recommend it if your pockets are deep enough. It's an interesting and rewarding work out and I'm still saying that with an aching bum.
Wow was this ever an interesting experience. Armed with my yoga pants I headed down to Bayswater expecting your traditional class of ladies lying on their backs in elegant poses. Not so at Beautcamp Pilates. Not a yoga mat in sight. Instead I was a faced with a room full of curious mechanical contraptions with added props of dumb bells, elastic bands and poles. Huh????
Luckily our trainer stepped up to reassure us the machines wouldn’t bite and he quickly put us through our paces. Lying on my back with my legs in the air straining against a couple of elastic bands slung round my feet gave me the giggles but after the hour was up I’d probably had the most strenuous workout outside of having a personal trainer.
I would recommend Beautcamp Pilates as a serious all over work out for the body, which you will definitely never, ever find dull,
A friend and I were lucky enough to get a place with Wahanda's Wellness Club for an event at Beautcamp Pilates, where we got a free hour long session. The studio was fairly easy to find even though I didn't know the area. Once up some stairs the studio opens out into a reception area with lip-shaped couches and rave reviews from the magazines and papers pinned onto the walls, so you knew it was a popular class!
After filling out a short form, we were told to get changed in the changing room - which is unfortunately small, and directly off of the studio where a class was taking place - so don't get changed by the door if you want privacy! I was surprised that it had such a small, communal changing area, but with the good sized waiting area you could wait your turn if it was too cramped.
All we needed was a top and leggings or jogging bottoms as it is done without trainers on. The instructor, Aaron, showed us the basics of the machines which were easy to understand, and chose someone to take the front machine as the person he would use to demonstrate each move.
The machine is a little like a rowing machine, with a moving plate and various weights to attach (the instructor tells you which ones to put on for which exercise) as well as straps to use for the arm and leg exercises, and a pole for later on! We did inner and outer thigh exercises, squats, arm exercises using free weights and the plate, and a lot of crunches. Aaron was really helpful and came round for each position to make sure we were doing it correctly. I wasn't expecting it to be such a good workout as I thought it would be more about stretching than cardio, but it was a good measure of both and I felt thoroughly worked out afterwards!
At the end of the free session Aaron pulled a name out at random and one girl won 5 free classes which was really nice! He said that most of his clients go 3, even 5 times a week, which is understandable as it's a great form of exercise which would see you toned up after about 20 sessions.
I would definitely do Beautcamp again, my only issues are the prices which are a bit much for me at £23 in off peak times. If there was a venue closer to where I lived I would do the early-bird classes as they are only £12! But all in all a brilliant class, it left me with good aches the next day and I will definitely be signing up for more Wellness Club events in the future!
TO be honest when I first went I didn't know what to expect. I had read about it in the London Lite and although it seemed pricey at first after having my first class I knew it was absolutely worth it. THe classes are small and the instructor Luke was patient, knowledgeable and quite good fun. The class went by quickly and now I am going at least twice a week to get ready for my summer hols.
I have been seeing Sandie since last year. I have been to many pilates professionals over the years and really believe Sandie has extra insight into your body's needs and requirements compared to other trainers. As one of her pregnant clients i can attest to Sandie's name "personal pilates" because she tailor-makes a plan to meet your physical needs and goals. Sometimes it's the smallest things that align our bodies and get us to do the exercises properly and with greater enjoyment and satisfaction. She can see if only one small thing is not doing it's job and she will work with you until you get the exercise done effectively. She is also sweet, kind and fun and i really enjoy our sessions.
I made a change two years ago from pilates to yoga, feeling as though I needed to join the band wagon of the om crowd. Perhaps I wasn't doing it right, but I felt as though all my core strength had gone and I wasn't fully getting the love being in amongst lots of people. Thankfully, I found Kinesis before it was too late... After 8 sessions, I feel leaner, taller, calmer and happier. The studio is an oasis of calm white light in amidst the busy streets of Notting Hill. The teachers are patient, world class, incredibly attentive and caring. There is a real feeling of welcoming as soon as you walk in the door. It's definitely on the pricier side, however there are lots deals to take advantage of! I've even started doing Gyro - which is the most freeing sensation through my body I've ever experienced!
My favourite place in Notting Hill. Ambience is great, staff is superb and the gym membership comes with 3 personal training sessions plus 1 per month extra for free. Pricier than Active, but worth the difference. Powerplate and pilates classes are very well done, but equipment can only be used during a class.
This is by no means a glamorous venue, located next to the recently renamed Shepherd Bush Market Tube. However it offers no nonsense, genuine, results oriented Pilates. The class room is on the top floor above the treatment rooms and is cramped but bright. They keep the classes pretty small, about 4-5 so there is enough room to do your stuff and plenty of individual attention from the instructor.
Because of the cramped nature of the building there isnt any proper changing rooms, i notced most people came already dressed for the class. I just got quickly changed in the toilet.
I completed a 6 week course of Pilates classes here and found the instructors to be capable, knowledgeable and attentive.
The atmosphere projected by all the staff struck me as all inclusive, whoever you are you are made welcome.
The administration could have been better. I paid in advance for another 6 week course which they then had to cancel. It took several weeks and quite a few phone calls to get my money back. However if i could find another course at a suitable time for me i would certainly go back.
Until I found Kinesis my overall experience with Pilates studios in London was less than satisfactory. I had been used to using pilates as excercise not as physio for geriatric patients. Located in a beautiful studio with attentive staff, Kinesis offers classes for all levels and needs whether on a one-to-one basis or in a group, often catering to a wide range of levels and needs within one class seemlessly. I was impressed by the group classes in that I am a very self-centered person who needs attention and I have never once felt neglected during group studio sessions. The classes are kept dynamic to your skill level and change day to day so as not to get routine. I was well on my way to pilates stardom when I, at the age of 30, became the dreaded aforementioned 'geriatric patient' in need of physio. Kinesis' physiotherapist is fantastic, not only does she have a keen understanding her trade but she uses alternative therapies such as acupuncture. She is far better than the other physios I have tried at hospitals and clinics. Furthermore, through working with her my information and needs are passed to the pilates instructors so that they can structure my rehab accordingly. The only downside is that they don't accept credit cards, which would make it easier to top-up my ten-pack of classes.
By far the best Pilates studio in London... the facilities in the studio are superb and the trainers are extremely professional, working you within your capabilities whilst knowing how far to push the boundaries - I'm addicted to my sessions!
