GOOD GYM - BUT OVERCROWDED!!!!!!!!!!
Extremely dissatisfied with this gym - I have been trying to get out of my contract here for over 3 months - membership took 33 days to respond to my request. Classes are great, but INCREDIBLY overcrowded... during peak times you will wait over 20min for a crosstrainer / treadmill. If you can attend this gym during the day, it's great, but if you work 9-5 I would not recommend this club to anyone.
I have been at the gym for 8 years and the prices have increased year on year. Recently there has been a mass exodus of all the good, well trained staff.
They have recently introduced a new 'paid' for area and all have taken all the similar classes off the timetable in a bid to encourage people to attend. A lot of members have complained as the changes are unethical but the staff, including the managers response has been rude and to ignore the members call to put the classes back on the timetable.
All in all it has turned into a terrible gym to attend - do not get a membership there, they are not customer oriented and don't care what their members think.
Lovely location, great club with lots of space and very friendly staff who offer great advice and encouragement.
You really feel like you had a good workout
I am really thinking of taking up membership there so i can fully utilise the facilities and the steam and sauna.
I liked the Fitness First club at St Johns hill. It's large (much better and bigger than the one at Lavender HIll, which is in 200 metres and can be easily confused for this one), lots of equipment, and generally good atmosphere. Very close to Clapham Junction station which is convenient.
Joined Heart and Soul a few months back after seeing the great results on a friend who with a lot of hard work and a great personal trainer looks amazing. James and Sarah are always on site and very friendly, they make you instantly feel welcomed.
The Gym is fully equipped and has everything you need for a excellent work out.
I opted to take up personal training sessions as I need the not so gentle push in the right direction. My Trainer really helps to push me further and I am already seeing the results after only a few sessions with him.
If you live in west London and are looking for a gym with a great atmosphere, and people then I would highly recommend Heart and Soul, Its also great value for money and with no contract it makes it the perfect gym for me.
Been a member since July 2010 I pay nearly £50 a month. The equipment is brilliant, the staff are fantastic, thats where it stops. The air conditioning has been playing up since I joined. They replaired it last year hoping to get them through the winter... it didnt. All of the systems now need replacing, that the two systems in the studio and the main one for the gym. Guess what.... 3 months later and still not repaired. OK they have replaced one of the units in the studio. However this now means its hot down one end of the studio and the air conditioner at the other end has little or not difference. Its about the only gym you can join for £50 a month without air con. One girl I was speaking to said it had been like it for 12 years!!!!
The gym now is unusable and only last night there were about 8 people in there... on a monday night!!! When its normally full with about 30 people in there.
I came out of the class I was in as I couldnt breathe after half an hour.
Nuffield are some what of a joke and we should be compensated for the inconvenience - yes fat chance.
If you are thinking of joining.... note the temperature.... the scum at the edges of the swimming pool and to be honest god knows how much bacteria is in the jacuuzi!
My advise yes it looks a fantastic gym, the reality is its a health and safety hazard!
New joiners BEWARE!!!!

Post Review
Having trained on and off, all over London, I've been keen to find a gym that's not too intimidating..you know what it's like ladies...men hogging the free weights, etc. After years of battling the bulge, I was also keen to find a personal trainer who wasn't a stereotype and majorly scarey..I don't like being shouted at, I don't like being patronised and I hate running machines.
Well, I can honestly say that both, Sarah and James have got it totally sussed... a gym that's affordable, frequented by people like me and you and I have the best trainer in the world. I train with Shahin Shamloo who mixes up my training so that I do pad work one day, work on the gym rings another and has me smashing up a gigantic tyre with a sledgehammer on another! Some days I don't feel like training at all but he has this knack of getting me to do my work out and it's all over before I've had chance to complain!
Other members equally rate Lee, Mr T, Sham and some new Welsh bloke called Niko, who is apparently Cosmopolitan's trainer.
Anyhow, get yourself down there... I've gone from a Size 14 to a 10!
I have been using this gym for some personal training classes and what impressed me is how massive this gym is. Lots of machines for the guys and cardio training, plus burlesque classes, bootcamp fit and Krav Maga classes being held there. I have not noticed a swimming pool though. the members seem to be people working in the part of London, so I would expect they do not look gorgeous with good skin and smiling because they were nasty people, ha ha
I think that the offer was excellent value for money and a great way to sample the clubs facilities without signing up for a long term contract. The classes were good and i would consider joining this club in the future.
The club itself was a little small but the changing rooms were large and they had everything which is needed.
Between 2007-2009 I suffered from a serious illness and although I fully recovered from this I could not reach the level of fitness I had enjoyed prior to being ill. Each time I tried I got knocked back by injury which eventually resulted in low self esteem, weight gain and lack of confidence. Lucy built me a gentle exercise programme, increasing the frequency, intensity and duration each week. By my Week 5 Assessment I had doubled my fitness level and lost 4 kgs in weight! I learnt the importance of warm ups and cool downs before and after exercise and have remained injury free. I am now well on my way to achieving my long term goal of participating in a 10K Charity Run. Having Lucy as my Personal Trainer has kept me motivated throughout and is the best thing I have ever undertaken!
I am pretty active but I was looking for a trainer to see once per week to help strengthen those areas of my body that I know are weaker. I started personal training with Alexis at NKD Ambition a few weeks ago and I am really loving it. The facility is right around the corner from the office so its super convenient. The facilities are compact but very good with everything you could possibly need and a nice changing room. I think the most important thing about personal training is finding a trainer that understands your body and what you need and can challenge you in this regard Alexis is great. I especially appreciate the way he takes the time beforehand to design the right session for me. Highly recommended.
I have been working out with Rohit at MFB since November 2011, and I have been able to transform my body in about 3 months, by losing a stone and a half (10 kg) whilst gaining muscle and body definition.
I have been a member of most of the major-chain gyms for the last 10 years, but going to the gym never yielded any results, as I discovered I am just not able to motivate myself to perform constant, vigorous excercise that has one's pulse always at around 80% of max and leaves them without breath, for 60 mins.
Rohit's classes have always been different and varied, which also helps to avoid falling into a routine.
Yes, they are tough, but my word of advice is - there aren't any short-cuts to weight loss and body definition...
Nowadays, I always go for two hours in a row, doing suspension training and circuits followed by body combat with Rohit.
Stripes is unique, your goals become their goals. They are all genuinely highly motivated to ensure all memebers achieve their goals by listening and encouragement. You don't feel judged if youlapse a bit there is just a gentle encouragement to get on it again, and when you have your push me head on - they do that too.
I hate gyms I hate working out, but I like Stripes, it has everything you need but without the intimidating atmosphere of other gyms. I asked them to put a programme together for my teenage coach potato who is going ski-ing for the first time and his programme is as unique and personal to him as mine is to me. I can't believe he actually wants to go and enjoys it.
I had my first Reiki and hypnotherapy sessions at Tranquility Spa. It was wonderful and the therapist took the time to assess my needs, put me at ease and I really enjoyed it.
I work as a temp and strange shifts so there is no routine in my time at the moment, Stripes are accomodating and if I haven't been in for a week or so I am welcomed back like a long lost friend, if you are looking for a harder programme the trainers and the gym are set up for that too, as soon as my shift pattern allows I am going to try the new 'Ultimate Fitness' class with my son.
Try Stripes before you sign up anywhere else - it is simply wonderful in every way
I went to Neil at LivelyDayz through the Wahanda offer for 2 Personal Training Sessions for £39. I can't say I was exactly looking forward to the first session, as I'm not in great shape and don't really love exercise! However, I'm really looking to get fitter, shape up, and find the motivation to keep up with a fitness regime.
Neil was great - very encouraging and motivating without shouting or bullying, yet tough enough to keep me working when I would definitely have given up if I'd been on my own. He varied the programme so I was never bored, and always wondering what would come next. He also showed me how to use equipment more effectively, so rather than just rowing for 10 min, he had me doing interval training which pushed me so much harder but was also more interesting.
On the basis of the session, I have signed up to twice a week sessions with Neil as I really believe this is the motivation and encouragement I need. I think once I've created the habit and got into a better routine I'll be able to reduce the number of sessions, but for now, Neil's guidance and injection of fun is definitely what I need.
Would recommend the venue, the session, and certainly Neil.
Had a 1 hour one on one session with Tracey the instructor re Pilates. Had recent back operation and was very cautious as to what I should be doing but wanted to find a way to tone up core and back. Tracey took her time with me, listened to everything I said and gave me her full attention for 1 hour. After this session every muscle in my body had been stretched in every direction and I could do more after that session than I had been able to do in the last 3 years. Had loads of energy and felt great. I will now be attending a weekly class with Tracey to continue and will have a monthly session on a one to one basis. thoroughly recommended
As soon as you walk into Stripes you feel part of 'the family'. There is no other Gym like it in Derby to make you feel so welcome, supported and cared for. You are never alone when you go to Stripes it is more than just a Gym. They have very highly qualified and knowledgeable personal trainers and therapists. Judy, the owner has a wealth of experience behind her, her treatments are simply the best.
Fantastic treatments! I have been trained for a long period of time by Kinga, who helped me correct my posture, tone up and loose weight. Results were amazing! I also received a number of massage/physiotherapy treatments from her and they were very high standard. Thank you! I would highly recommend Kinga and the amazing and friendly Ambition team :)
LA Fitness Marylebone apart for some of the trainers that are not up to par and only like training pretty young girls, I am not young but yet I am good looking female and I was treated shabbily by some of them. I found that overall the LA Fitness in Marylebone is Ace.
good local gym; nothing fancy in terms of equipment but great value. easy to get a booking. good sample of a personal training workout in a well equipped PT area. I will go back for more!
If you want to get fit and see results immediately meanwhile have unreal, challenging and fun workouts than look no further. Gintas is an amazing trainer, natural motivator and creates incredible sessions, every one different from the last. I look forward to every session I have! If you are looking to get fit, improve your overall health and have a great time doing than look no further GI Training is the right choice for you. You won't regret it, trust me! Amy
i took the 3 day bootcamp last week and thought it was amazing and great value for money as i normally pay £40 for an hour of personnal training so all the stuff we did for £33 a day was a rally good offer. the booking routine took a while to get through but then im not surprized at that price knowing how many people bought it and no where like as bad as a take that concert ticket line! i did upgrade my room and pick my date for £25 and again at £12.50 a night for farm house accommodation and my meals it was amazingly cheap. i'd researched for a while and nothing compared to this deal. i've recommed this to all of my friends and can't wait to go again!
Brilliant place, brilliant vibe, brilliant people, one word....brilliant!
My training sessions at Exclusive Training Richmond have been wonderful. The team at the studio are very friendly and offer plenty of helpful advice. My workout's have truly brightened the new year, and my trainer, Mel, is excellent at making the sure that every minute of each workout counts. The equipment at the studio is brand new and plenty of fun. I would recommend this studio to fitness lover's and people looking for a kick start to changing their health.
Amazing venue, trainers and amazing up to date equipment. Would recommend.
Lovely place, great staff, I needed all the motivation that god could have given me to make a regular effort in exercise. Thanks to the good advice and constant motivation of (Mel - my trainer) that I keep going. I also participate in the fusion group fitness classes that are great fun and physically demanding. I am doing 3 sessions of per week but planning to increase it to 4 sessions. My husband has also joined last week and enjoying too. Thank you to all the staff at the studio.
I have recently started Training at Richard Callender Exclusive Training and I am already amazed by the results. As soon as you walk into this top class studio you will be blown away, not only by the facilities and equipment available but also by how professional and knowledgeable the staff are.
I would highly recommend this facility to everyone, you have to get down there and try it out for your self. Definitely a 10 out of 10 from me!!
I'd heard about The Zone Health and Fitness in the past on numerous ocassions, namely recently during Children in Need they appeared on BBC London News after raising thousands of pounds for the charity.
I had been in and out of gyms all of my life, and after moving across town I decided it was about time that I checked the centre out. My impressions prior to entering the centre were good - a choice of 5 busses could've taken me to right outside the doors. Furthermore the number of tennis courts outside the centre really got me eager to have a look around.
The reception was clean and tidy and before I even got into the gym I was feeling good about this place.
Before I'd even touched a weight my mind was made up. The tour was excellent and I knew exactly what I'd be getting with my membership - which I feel is great value for money.
I now go to the gym 6 days a week and do 13 out of the 70 classes on a weekly basis. This is not a place to miss!
Never have I felt more comfortable and at home at a Gym. The staff are amazingly friendly and are always on hand with advice and assistance. Well worth the money. I wouldn't go anywhere else after becoming a member at The Zone. Definately recommend a visit!
Best one in fitness center. I like this.

Just an update on anyone thinking of joining in January...still no change with the gym ventilation. If you use the running machines you will boil after five minutes. Instead of vents like most gyms Nuffield think that shining a hot spotlight on each machine is a good idea. I thought they were a healthcare company????
Im a massive fan of Heart and Soul fitness!!
Joined in August after gaining some holiday weight. Had a 4 week goal and after lots of advice from lovely Sarah the owner, I was given a trial personal training session to see if i liked it.
I was instantly hooked!! Iv never ever stuck at a gym or enjoyed exercising before but I think that the open, friendly and personal approach that all the staff have at Heart and Soul definitely has kept me coming back.
Needless to say, my goal was reached and Iv literally never felt or looked better.
I lost 1 and a half stone in about 5 or 6 weeks!!! This was down to great nutritional advice from my very experienced PT Shahin, as-well as some fun but rigorous training sessions and classes. I could never have achieved this without all the fantastic staff at Heart and Soul Fitness.
Thank-you so much guys and I couldn't recommend this place more!!
I love my gym!! (something I thought I would NEVER say)
Fantastic new gym just over Battersea bridge. This gym looks like it cost a fortune as it is decked out with all the most modern equipment. At first it looks like a dedicated martial arts gym, and if you want to train at any level for Boxing, Judo, MMA, Muay Thai, BJJ or others you will get top notch coaching and guidance here, however it also runs spin classes, aerobics, yoga and many more mainstream fitness classes to suit all gym users at all levels. And as a member I can choose a different activity on any day depending on what I feel like doing - there are no hidden charges for any of the classes I have done so far.
While the gym looks like it is a modest size, the classes are structed so that you're never crowded and if you are using the weights or other equipment you are never impacted by the classes running elsewhere in the gym.
By far the biggest drawcard for this gym is the level of experience of the instructors running the classes. All instructors have competed at high levels, many at professional level of their disciplines and they are all technically astute as well as being personable and focused on getting the best out of the class and me as an individual. The training is rewarding and consistent and the atmosphere at the gym is friendly and positive.
I visited the establishment in December-2nd - The establishment was very good, The staff were welcoming and eager to help.
I would certainly visit again and use the treatments- would highly recommend this place.
The trainer was very good. I loved the exercises that were given to me, since I could feel that my muscles worked hard. The place looks very nice and has a very up to date equipment ( there is even a power plate). Additionally, there is a sauna inside of the changing room to help you relax after working out. I would definitely recommend this gym to people who like using different equipment during work out as the available variety is impressive.
I had any kind of service and it's poor, cheap, always late or classes are cancelled, disgusting showers and swimming pool....I complained till I could now I'll get my membership cenceled. I rather be fat than catch a desease! People bring your money somewhere else!
I Just recently Join Gym there and I am so much satisfied with my performance and weight loss. all because of really different way of gym operation every single member get full concentration from staff. all help available there all the time. tried Some beauty treatments just can't believe the prices so low prices and very professional treatment. well done

Many thanks to Activ Tailored Fitness. Played a full game of football yesterday for the first time in 15 years and was still going as hard at the end as I was at the beginning. That plus I am not sore at all today says everything about the training I have been getting. Not bad for a 49 year old. Feels as good as the win. Well almost.
It was a great session. The fitness centre itself is average. But the session was great. The trainer Greg made a very good session. I would definetely recommend to everyone.
It was hard to find the place. However the staff was so helpful that I was personally met by one of them and shown the direction. The session itself was short, but effective. I could feel the pain in my legs for the whole week after. I liked the exercises that I was given and it was obvious that the trainer knows well what he does. I liked the staff, since I was explained everything in details. I would love to come back one day!
Amazing class, very complete. An excellent workout and immersion in the Brazilian culture. Great environment in the class and loads of fun. I would reccomend it to people all ages.
Thanks to your training and fitness routine that you have given me I have lost 2.5 stone in 3 months, I have also managed to reduce my medication due to the deep tissue massage's that i have been receiving.
I an now feeling great and starting to look it too - just a pity you can't do anything about the face !!
G.
The staff were lovely, really helpful and open. The facilities were small and very humble which doesn't suit me but good for a private area or for those who don't like to train around lots of people. The trainer himself was nice but seemed a bit awkward, didn't really push me too hard and didn't really seem to have formulated a plan for the session. I wouldn't go back but only because I like things with a bit more of an atmosphere and a certain energy to them.
The whole experience exceeded my expectations from the hard workouts to the relaxing massage. If you are thinking of a fitness break look no further, I can't wait to go back it was great fun.
My confidence has risen 100% as to my physical ability.
The food was really good, I expected to feel hungry all day but that didn't happen, the evening meal was superb.
The staff are truly amazing and make you feel really special, thank you David for your patience and faith in me. And the "cheeky hills"!
The activities cater for all ages and sizes and no one feels out of place.
Great value to visit Fitness First. Unfortunately the Berkeley Square branch is cramped, small and very busy. But, it is at a very convenient location. Staff are friendly, but maybe a bit too keen to sell you their services.
A brilliant club - Just left the most miserable Total Fitness with miserable staff and old kit to come to a club that has just put new gym kit in and Tvs and a brand new sound proffed spin studio. Classes were amazing too - Try Re-bounding! the next new thing apparently!
I have had 5 personal training sessions with Wilson at Samsara Studios. He is very personable and professional and I enjoyed everything I have learnt from his training sessions. I have had pretty good results over the past months and feel inspried to keep up the training tips I have learnt. I highly recommend him if you are looking to improve your gym routine and importantly reduce the amount of time you spend in the gym.
I have been visiting Greg at H&SF for a number of months now and am an absolute devotee. I get withdrawals symptoms if I don@t go twice weekly. He combines my requirements with his own professional knowledge to produce a tailored and varied, but demanding workout every time
The gym was modernise and spacious. It was easy to find the venue because it was within walking distance. The instructor was approachable and friendly.I thoroughly enjoyed the session and would visit again
I've been having personal training at Heart & Soul gym since it opened. I have a fantastic personal trainer called Greg who I see three times a week. My personal goal was to lose weight after having my third baby, get fit and be healthy. Greg is a very committed and motivating personal trainer. My sessions with him are always kept fun and interesting by the ever changing program. I'm very happy with the results so far and feel a lot better. I would recommend Greg as a personal trainer to anyone.
I went to this club as my fiance is very into fitness but we have only recently moved to the area and I had heard that this was a nice new gym. My fiance went straight into the gym as he knows exactly what he's doing already, but I booked a session with a personal trainer (Sarah) who was lovely and very professional - and we talked about my diet and current excercise regime. I really gained so much information and will definitely be back again soon- i look forward to my next session. book yourselves in now!!!!
Have been Training with Sarah and the Heart and Soul trainers on and off for about 5 years now and absolutely love them all!!!
Trained with nearly all of them for different reasons, one for boxing, one for weight loss and am now hooked on CrossFit!!!
It was very intimidating for me to start going to the gym let alone going in a big weights room by myself but having a trainer really does help brake down that confidance barrier.
Having someone push you is a must for me and they know how to motivate!!
The new venue is fab and lets me do my workout without the need for unnecessry 'trendy' equipment, this studio is for Real people and the staff are frendly and welcoming!!!
Golds Gym / WRFitness– WORST GYM EXPERIENCE EVER.
I signed up with Golds since it was close to my house and on my way to and from work. I signed up for personal training program but quickly regretted my decision. Following my first training session, my personal trainer last-minute cancelled a training session, no showed to another and was 15 minutes late to another. After the 2nd no show/cancellation, I told management I wasn’t happy. They promised a refund if I was unhappy with their attempt to make up for the screw ups and after the trainer was late to another training session, I decided to cancel the personal training and take the refund. Well, after I asked for the refund, they went back on their word.
Do not use this gym – they don’t give a damn about the people that keep them in business.
The location and the facilities were good for the price paid. The PT who did the classes with us was good and overall it was fun. However it should have been stated much more clearly that there were only a few hours exercise a day and that those exercises were at a very low intensity level. The retreat is well suited for people who have not done any exercise in a while and want to kick start a new regime but not really for people who want a weekend of intensive sport.
I went for the Zumba dance class in Hammersmith. Zumba dance classes are good. But I didn't like the fact that the steam and sauna rooms are unisexual. There should have been rooms for male and female separately. Otherwise facilities are good.
If you are looking for the best personal trainer in London, the search is over. I have been training with Sarah Colbourne at Heart and Soul Fitness for five years, and she has been an inspiration, keeping me fit, healthy and happy. Sarah is very much the holistic trainer, training not only the body but also the mental aspect of fitness, as well as looking at diet. In all those years, I have never been bored. Sarah constantly comes up with new and exciting exercises, constantly challenging me to perform at my best. Her new personal training suite is fantastic, light and airy, with state-of-the art equipment. Look no further than Heart and Soul!
Initially went to Active8 due to needing physiotherapy after breaking my elbow and ended up staying on for personal training. With hour long sessions compared to 30 mins with the NHS I made fast progress in being able to use my arm again. Exercises were not restricted to the elbow but also wrist, shoulder and eventually back as well to strengthen all the muscles. The therapist was very knowledgeable and provided information on nutrition without being pushy and due to my having broken ankles a few years before also incorporated excerises to help me strengthen them. The therapist seems to have an uncanny ability to know exactly when to push to help you achieve the best results without going to far, has a good sense of humour and is easy to talk to. Very happy with the results and happy to recommend to friends and family.
I am a Crossfit level 1 trainer and have personal training/coaching sessions at Heart and Soul Fitness with Sham. At last!!! I have found a gym in London that understands that what I need is high level coaching and access to a Crossfit/type facility. I do not need scripted music, here I can play my own. I do not need a sauna/steam, I am here to work out not lie around. If I need a towel I will bring one or take the option to hire one. I can use the facilities at Heart and Soul but I have a shower at home and after my cool down run home can do so. This is the first step in back to basics fitness. Gyms don't work, Heart and Soul does. When was the last time you tested your heart?
Both my Mum and I are newbys to Zumba and we have been to few classes and absolutely enjoying them. We highly recommend the class and the instructor is very good and really motivates you!
I had a great experience with Heart & Soul Fitness they were recommended to me by a friend who was still training with them. I am middle aged and have started carrying some extra weight and generally my fitness was poor. Due to my job I am frequently away travelling and my diet is terrible because of this.
However I am a month in with training with a trainer at Heart & Soul Fitness and they are excellent! The trainer I have is making me keep a food diary and pushing me in every session to lengths I did not think possible on my body.
Mixed and varied exercises for people of all fitness levels by professional personal trainers who certainly know there stuff. They have a functional training room which is very different to anything I have seen before. CrossFit style training using your own body weight and doing exercises in circuits timed so you get a cardio workout for your heart & lungs.
In just under a month training 3-4 times a week I feel stronger, fitter and more flexible. I am starting to look how I want to and think about my lifestyle choices more. Heart & Soul Fitness have had a positive impact on my life and have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.
I have trained at Heart & Soul Fitness's new base in Ladbroke Grove, North Kensington. Great venue with brilliant facilities, the training was tailored to my fitness goals. I enjoyed the session very much which I didn't think I would. Training at Heart & Soul Fitness with a trainer really opened my eyes for 1 to 1 training and I was impressed with what I achieved after 1 session. The trainer really pushed me hard and did not let me give in until I finished the workout, it has made me realise what I have been doing in the gym previous to this session was not benefitting me at all. Before you begin your fitness journey, I would recomment you have a Personal Training session with Heart & Soul Fitness.
Tired facilities and really not very clean.
Therapists are generally excellent.
Overall rest of the staff indifferent and the management team are hopeless.
Poor communication with members.
Remove facilities without notice.
Fitness Tests based on pseudo science so cannot base your programmes around them
Staff were nice, they did a preview of my health conditions and went through the exercises and explained how. The only thing is, unless u pay for personal training, they dont really make a written plan for you to follow for the next weeks.
Hypoxi in the South Woodford is fantastic.
I strongly recommend Hypoxi in South Woodford for all who seek a place where they are want to start fight with his weight and imperfections. Staff is very professional and very friendly. The owner of the studio perfectly drew me a set of exercises and very quickly began to lose weight. After only six sessions, I began to see results, and soon became dependent on exercises in Hypoxi, now I am regular customer. I believe that the Hypoxi South Woodford is a great place where a friendly atmosphere and professional staff who will help you to lose weight without stress. Begin Hypoxi it works, they know what they're doing.
When I contacted FF about my voucher I was invited to come to the gym and an appointment was made - I assumed this was to show me the facilities, explain the booking system for classes or similar since there was no indication what the appointment was for. When I showed up without a particular class in mind I was told I should come back then; the sales representative gave me his mobile number and said I should call him the evening before. After a 2-minute chat (and the question whether I wanted to sign up for a membership even though I had already said I was just interested in the classes) my appointment was over. I didn't go back - the overall atmosphere had put me off (the place seemed sticky, crowded and very corporate) and the fact that I felt my time on that evening had been wasted didn't help so I can't give feedback on the classes.
Really enjoyed the mid-week bootcamp. It was tough doing 10 hours of physical exercise a day with only 1500 calories of food but we all did it and the results were amazing! Lost 4lbs..but average of the group was 7lbs! Would definitely recommend.
At home, having spent seven days at Hilmotts, I have just returned from my morning walk, completed my stretches and ate my porridge with blackcurrents (yes really!) the team at Hilmotts are a real inspiriation.
David, Massimo & Lee are all down to earth, give great advice, understand and respect your needs as an individual. Their approaches, strategies and techniques are all very different but compliment each other very well.
Just when you choose not to go any further, (not can't!) they will take you through an exercise that will perk you right back up again and get your mindset back on the right track.
Breakfast and lunch are cooked freshly on the premises and are all very tasty, there are enough snacks in between meals to ensure you that you don't feel hungry at any time. During the nutritional talks, you get a real sense and understanding of why certain food groups are not healthy for the body.
I had three treatments in the spa and each one was very good, in particular Reiki, I had never had this treatment before and Kate helped me through this wonderful and mind blowing experience.
Thank you very much to all the Hilmotts team and I look forward to returning in the future.
I have trained with Heart and Soul fitness for coming up to five years now.. I train with Sham Cortazzi and find all the trainers at Heart and Soul to be friendly, fun and passionate about fitness.. The new gym which recently opened at the top of Ladbroke Grove is fantastic not just because of its location and atmosphere, but also because of the equipment available to its members.. Over the past few months the PT's have been running a leader board, pitting their clients against each other.. A little healthy competition and a great way to get to know other gym members.. Heart and Soul put the fun in to fitness!
I thought I might try a fitness BOOTCAMP-exercising outdoors with a bunch of people guided by a fitness instructor was what I had in mind- and I am not disappointed. Despite the rainy weather the last 2 sessions, we carried on as usual. The instructor, Gintas is just great and funny too. He is a hard taskmaster, but was wise enough to warn us about sore muscles the following day. He really tailors and varies the sessions depending on the group which is brilliant. Despite the aches & pains, I'm really enjoying the BOOTCAMP and am looking forward to the next few sessions. And Clapham Common is beautiful, whatever the weather. Give it a try!
Cleo and David offered us a fantastic amount of support and motivation during our stay at Hillmotts. Thinking of an annual fitness retreat.
Super Gym!!! Overall great experience. Different classes for different levels and insturctors are truly there to help you reach success. Positive encouragment and super happy staff at all times. Customer service is exceptional the moment you enter with cheerful greetings. Lora and Andrew, owners, are wonderful at making sure there facility is tip top shape. They are dedicated to customer satisfication. I didn't think I would be so dedicated to attend a gym till I entered this one. Thanks Pure Fx!!!
Had a personal training session with Anthony and I was very impressed with his results-driven approach.
His instructions are very precise and he makes sure you are doing all the exercises correctly, assessing each time how to reassess the repetitions if the posture is not correct. For someone like me who is not very constant when it comes to exercising, a session with Anthony brings you back on track and afterwards you really want to stick to the programme. I asked not to push me to the limit as I didn't want to be too sore the following day and in fact I felt challenged while still being able to climb up and down stairs the following day!
Thank you Anthony.
I have attended three Sussex Bootcamp fitness courses at Haywards Heath and have greatly enjoyed it. There is always a friendly atmosphere in every group my wife and i have been in and I have found the trainers to be highly experienced and motivating, pushing me always to my own limits. I have seen an improvement in my fitness levels and would highly recommend attending Sussex Bootcamp.
I've been at Roko's for a few months now and I've really enjoyed my time so far. I've got a personal trainer (Phil) who I see twice a week for an hour each time. I was a bit nervous about having a personal trainer as I've never had one before, but Phil is a really nice guy and though we have a good chat whenever we see each other he's also good at pushing me when I need to be pushed or am just being lazy!
I've definitely felt the benefit of having a personal trainer, and I feel a lot more motivated in general since I started. In terms of the gym itself, it's got lots of machines which means no waiting around even when it gets busy. They have two pools but one of them is outside which isn't great when its cold out but still its a good size with lots of room to stretch out in.
I have signed up to 6-week beginner's course which just finished yesterday and I can whole-hearted say what a fantastic experience it has been. I have gained a tremendous amount of upper body strength, a pole-dancing routine and the sense of having achieved something difficult. Ladies, if you'd like to learn pole danicng seriuosly, this is the place to go!
Booking the class has been a breeze. My phone/email enquiry was answered promptly. What really sets this place apart is that you have your own pole, which means you get 60mins of solid workout and practice instead of waiting your turn.
The instructor was really professional and enthusiastic and class number is small enough that you get individual attention perfecting the move. The class is well-structured that you do walk away with a nice routine at the end.
Highly recommended!!!
my friends and i enjoyed a lovely afternoon, lovely hotel and treatment
weekends were not available when we wanted to go so went for a weekday and very quiet and nice
went for a girly gathering and it was a lovely get together in a lovely surrounding
hotel very nice
treatment was a bit on the quick side but excellent value for what we paid
brilliant location, friendly staff & great list of weight loss programme's
My friend and I not big fans of sweaty gym, so despite not pleasant weather condition we really enjoyed a very great body work out on a fresh air in Hyde Park. First of all, we have received email from our coach with date, time and clear instruction where to meet and what to bring to the session. The coach was very friendly, and made us work hard and laugh a lot. Great value for money and without doubt I would recommend this deal to all my friends. Great experience and many thanks to our coach!
A beautiful space with a very upmarket ambience. Every member of staff spoke to me and made sure I was training correctly. Other members were nice too. There's no egos here and the club is spotless.
Very refreshing to know there's a club that's got it all right, and close to my work too :)
"I've signed up to gyms, I've played loads of sports, yet nothing seems to motivate me as much as Walker Bros Fitness."
I enjoyed my time last week for many different reasons. The whole experience was just what I needed and exceptionally enjoyable. Every component of the programme was well thought through, intuitive and well organised. I learnt all that I needed to about nutrition, healthy eating and exercise, whilst taking onboard new challenges and feeling completely comfortable during my whole stay.
You helped me achieve my own goals reigniting my motivation to take care of myself in a sensible way and recognise the changes I need to make I could not have enjoyed my time more, the stunning scenery, the beautiful food, the great exercise routines, the balance of the days and the time to relax and pamper myself was all just perfect
We actually went to the So Spa (not So Fit - the review link came out here?) and it was an absolute treat.
We had the afternoon tea with manicure and cocktail deal and it was outstanding value for money.
Upon arrival we were shown to the beautiful spa area were a nice selection of tea and afternoon tea treats were provided. The surroundings are beautifully designed for the space and we relaxed immidiately. The staff was very kind, friendly and professional and the manicure was one of the best I have had. The strawberry martinis just topped it off! I will definitely be coming back especially if there is another deal on at this hotel. Top marks!
London's top personal training gym that house very good personal trainers that knows how to provide real results! The personal trainers in this London sports club were very knowledgeable in all aspects of personal training, fitness and weight loss. The staff were very accommodating also. Overall it was a satisfactory experience.
I had a very positive and motivational experience. Taking hikes in the country side was amazing, it was nice to breathe in fresh air and get a phenomenal workout at the same time.
It was definitely great value and money well spent.
The trainers and therapist were very experienced and I learned a lot of new things about how to benefit the most for my workouts as well as eating healthy delicious and filling foods. The meals that were prepared were very tasty and left me feeling full.
They provide a wide range of fitness routines throughout the day which are fun and the days fly by very fast. I loved the zumba, yoga, circuit training and trying new ways and routines of exercising that I never have before.
I feel detoxed and renewed with more energy than I've had in years!
I recommend this to anyone as there were wide range of ages, male and female with various levels of fitness and endurance during my stay.
we had really nice time and recomend it to everyone. the staff was very friendly and hotel facilities were amazing. we spend our day in an active way; in the gym, pool, steam room and jacuzzi. the localisation and views from the hotel were unforgetable. in one word - in was amazing.
I've been working with Michele for 9 months now, and finishing up my second training and nutrition transformation program. I've lost a total of 38 pounds working with her. She offered continuous support, educating me what challenges I would need to prepare for at different stages of my weight loss. I've had not really strength trained seriously with weights for a consistent period of time before working with her, her program was perfect in allowing me to progress incrementally. Now I love lifting weights and feel confident and comfortable to know what I'm doing and why I'm doing the exercises I'm doing in the gym. I love the way I look and feel now, and Ive got the tools and a whole new mindset on how to live fit.
With my internal medicine practice, I'm always advocating to my patients to improve their health, increase their energy levels, and prevent many complications by simply eating better, ie restrict their triglycerides, lower their saturated fat and to exercise daily. However, I now have a more comprehensive and detailed understanding of what 'sound nutrition' really means, understand strength training is an essential to aging well, and have a nutritionist, trainer I can refer patients too.
I went to the olde barn hotel with my friend, the room was really nice. On the day we went the jacuzzi was out of use but we had a jacuzzi in our room so I didnt really mind. On the day we had a massage and a facial this was probably what ruined our time there as everything else was good. The beauty therapists were really unprofessional, while I was having my massage and my friend was having her facial they were both giggling to themselves and the therapist actually had to keep stopping the treatment as she trying not to laugh so much. It was really unprofessional and the worst massage that I had ever had, they were like two little teenagers that had just come out of beauty college and it seemed like they had skipped their classes on how to behave when they have clients. On a more positive note the personal training session was really good.
I had a fantastic 5 days at the Hillmotts and would recommend the facility/experience to all of those who are keen to be educated in fitness and healthy lifestyle as well as those wanting to have a luxury pamper in the spa.
The staff were amazing, a lot of fun and understanding they really understood what may objectives were, and taught me that exercise and maintaining a health food balance can be exciting rather than daunting.
I left the facility feeling great, full of energy and most importantly motivated to sustain a healthy lifestyle.
I went to Hillmotts to kick-start my fitness regime, which had been sadly neglected over the winter months. I signed up for the 3 day fitness retreat, which started on a on Friday morning and finished on a Sunday afternoon. The mix of classes and fitness training gave an excellent workout - and I found muscles I didn't know I had! There were eight people in the group and there was always one and sometimes two trainers with us, offering support and encouragement. All of the group were fitter (and younger) than me, but it didn't matter. Everyone was encouraged to stretch beyond their own current level of fitness, rather than compete against one another... which worked perfectly for me. The three days were challenging and rigourous, but the outcome was exactly what I wanted... a huge sense of achievement and a renewed desire to continue to get fitter and healthier. The food was nutritious and the attention and support was excellent. I also enjoyed a body massage, which came at the end of the middle day and was just great! I will certainly go again, for a boost and to help maintain my focus.
Spent three days at Hillmotts on a fitness retreat. The experience was exhausting and exhilarating and physically shattering and absolutely brilliant. You never know what you can achieve until someone challenges but also encourages you as well as they do at Hillmotts. I worked out so hard for three days, I ate good healthy and very appetising meals, I spent as much time as possible exercising outdoors and spent the time with instructors who knew what they were talking about and were able to impart their knowledge in an interesting and entertaining way which meant that I remembered so much more of it! I also had lots of fun too! I recommend Hillmotts absolutely.
the therapy rooms at the sofit spa at the sofitel were in a beautiful setting , very elegantly furnished and spacious. The therapist who did our manicures was friendly and professional, wore uniforms and did a good job.
the afternoon tea was a nice treat too.
Incredibly hard work but in an encouraging and supportive environment. Murat really pushes you to your limit but also lets you set your own pace. I've never done a Bootcamp before but have really enjoyed it so far and would definitely recommend to friends.
I had the online Pete Cohen 6mth package. The review options don't include that so I put this under Personal Training. Overall, I think the videos are really motivational. They are not 'preachy' and are done in a really fun way. I found them helpful and would recommend the online programme.
watch out ,,, after you become member within the cancellation period , you asked them to cancel , they will not do that make sure you get the confirmation same time ,i have charged for allmost $ 895 .and they just play with you credit card. beaware iam still fighting get my money back, the staff is very creepy.
Tracy has a very clean fitness studio. She wipes off all her equipment between clients. It's so nice. She is a great trainer and I love her boot camps. Everyone who goes to the classes are friendly. It's a very comfortable but cool place. I wish Tracy well and many clients to benefit from her good work.
. Great looking open space and easy to be in with lots of natural day light. The atmosphere is not too charged so one can workout and relax. There js great Pilates and also yoga ....The juice bar is stocked with organic drinks and juices and the food different and healthy ... and the whole staff is professional and friendly and ready to help and attentive and quick .
The most brilliant however are the trainers ...I have now had four sessions with two different trainers and they are both tremendous . I am supposed to have knee surgery in two months from now however ,instead, I think I can avoid surgery for a few more years by working on my leg muscles strength and flexibility , with a goal to ski again next winter ! this would be amazing !! But I think it is possible ..
I am in my 50 s I feel stronger daily , I have less pain and i am determined to succeed and be out on the slopes again ...
I am truly optimistic and I am being helped in the right way .
Come and try !!!
The personal care and direction I am getting is truly amazing .
Well done Clay ! I will refer you to as many people as I can ..
I attended the Hillmotts 3 day retreat with 3 friends. It was an awesome intense 3 days, covering everything from TRX to Yoga and the Zumba class was brilliant fun. I would highly recommend it to anyone. The staff were first class.
Based in London Bridge, it took a little map hunting to find, but once there it was a well maintained fitness suite primarily for Power plates. I could probably see myself returning if they had good promotions for sessions as you get a good one-one training. Friendly, chatty non-English staff. Down to earth Ambience.
A great way to get back into shape after a long break. There were 19 of us in the group of different abilities and shapes. The training was tough, but the group is big and varied enough that you can train to your own max without feeling left out at any stage - whether your overall condition is better og worse than the average participant. It is an intense 1 hour and we only took breaks for water or taking close off when we got too hot (this is on a cold, windy and clammy February eve...).
I have only been to one so far, but already look forward to the next muddy encounter in the park and would recommend it to anybody who wants to get out and get some fresh air while giving your body a push in the right direction for the summer shape. 1 down, 7 to go - bring it on!
At the risk of sounding a complete saddo, BMF has CHANGED MY LIFE!!
I go up to 5 times a week and now have tip top fitness, and made loads of friends. I even carried on til 2 weeks before I gave birth to my second son!! There is nothing more motivating to push yourself that extra bit than an enthusiastic intructor and a group of people to race against. I love the sessions and have had the occasional minor injury (2 in five years), but still healthier than sitting on a fat bum watching Eastenders eh? The beginners group is quite easy and I have seen obese 60year olds enjoying the class (OK, perhaps "enjoying" only afterwards, but still they come back!). I'm just hoping they branch out to include a kid's BMF soon... it would be amazing.
After being a member there for more than a year (paying 100 £ a month) I can say that this club is a complete disappointment and I would not recommend it to anyone- they constantly run out of towels, dirty ones are left on the shower room floor for hours and the elevator has been in repairs for at least 3 months( it is a complete joke that they still have the nerve to put a ridiculous sign on the elevator saying " Things are looking up for our elevators!" are you for real??!) .With only one working and even that is broken sometimes. What is worse in the evenings it is so full you can hardly find a machine. But what really bothers me it their customer service. After they get you into a 12 month contract you are pretty much no-one to them. I tried to get my brother to come with me to the gym 1 time during the 12 month membership ( 1 time, 1 single time and I have not brought absolutely anyone to that gym before, so they can hardly accuse me of taking advantage of they "fancy" club) and they said they can not let him in without him paying 20£ for it. When you sign up they tell you that they give you 4 free guest passes in the fancy brochures but apparently they are valid for 3 months only (what is the logic in that if you try to attract new members??!) and I had not used even a single one during the whole year. Still they had the nerve to ask my brother for 20 £ even though in most gyms the first time you go there used to be free (like in most gyms). I was so annoyed by their lack of help and the way they addressed my request that it cost them my membership. Instead of spending money on fancy brochures they should find out what is the most important marketing tool- taking care of your clients, not to follow blindly some ridiculous rules that make very little sense under any circumstances.
was reluctant to go ,but it was a great idea, had lot of fun,met nice people, great program.
would recommend to anyone who wants to get more fit and does not like to go outside much since this might change it for good.Very enjoyable, usually I would avoid any exercises outdoors. Thank you
Here's my review of La Fitness Edgware. I'd like to point out that, in my opinion, they did a really stupid thing in their 'redecoration'. Firstly, no-one could go for a week. Secondly, almost nothing changed. EXCEPT they covered up the windows. Previously you could exercise and look out the window onto the street below. No-one on the street could see in. Now, it is a lot more claustrophobic. I actually joined this gym rather than Fitness First or Golds in Harrow because they didn't have windows! Anyway, that's a personal gripe. Here's the review:
Getting there:
I don't drive so I can't comment on parking but I've heard finding a parking space is tricky.
Right opposite the bus station and underground train station.
Staff:
Most are friendly, some are indifferent. There is no-one I would say I disliked. A quck hello when I walk in and a good-bye when I leave is pretty much the only contact I have with them.
Equipment:
Standard stuff, it's quite small really. I've been to Fitness First in Harrow which is much bigger. If you go at peak times you will have to expect a wait to get on the machines (treadmills, etc. and weights).
Classes:
I don't go to any. During the day you will often hear announcements that classes are starting and places are available. I don't know if they get more packed in the evening.
Changing rooms:
Only seen the mens obviously. They are clean and the lockers are a reasonable size. You must bring a padlock they don't have the 'returnable pound coin' system. They will sell you a combination padlock for a fiver if you don't have one but you can bring your own. There is one cubicle for shy men or for men with children.
Toilets:
Without being crude, I'd only use the urinals. There are two cubicles and one always appears to be blocked. Very often someone hasn't flushed.
Showers:
Not good. Firstly they smell. It's a kind of mushroomy, fungal smell that isn't at all pleasant as you can imagine. It's not overpowering but hangs unpleasanty in the background. The temperature ranges from freezing to just about warm. I have yet to be a hot one. There are about 10 showers (with screens, not all in a row in the open) and if more than 3 are in use the water pressure seems to drop along with the temperature.
Price:
Around £45 a month
Signing up:
They certainly go for the hard sell. As soon as you walk upstairs to see what the place is like they have you filling out forms and act as if you are signing up there and then. It really is the hard sell. It goes something like this:
You: I'm thinking of joining the gym, can I take a look around.
Them: Please take a seat here and fill out this form.
You: Well, I don't know if I want to join yet, what is the monthly fee?
Them: Fill out the form and I get someone to give you a tour.
You: OK.
[A member of staff takes you on a quick tour of the gym and back to the saleswoman.]
Them: OK, I've processed your form. You will be issued with a membership card now, and I can also give you this welcome pack that contains... [she then goes through everything in the pack]
You: Well, I don't know if I want to join yet?
Them: Do you have any questions?
You: How much do I have to pay a month?
Them: [she then tells you, and ends with...] if you pay the first installment now with cash or credit card you can start using the gym straight away.
[she then sits and stares at you until you either get up and walk out or pay the first installment and get your membership card].
I suppose this is how they think they'll get the most members and it probably is.
All-in-all if you want a gym that you can turn up to and do your thing then leave. If you want it to be in Edgware because that's the most convenient. And you'll do most your exercising during the day. Then La Fitness is OK. That is, it'll do the job.
Murat definitely knows his stuff, he's also super-fit and 100% vigilant - he manages to keep track of what every individual is doing, ensures their technique is correct and is constantly encouraging. He has a lovely manner and I would definitely recommend him as a trainer. Each session is different so no danger of boredom. A few of the group have been training with Murat for quite some time but it's not at all cliquey - I was made to feel welcome right away. The park is muddy, so wear waterproof clothes if you have them and be prepared to get dirty.
very friendly staff; just the right pace for me and my state of fitness; friendly group; friendly and helpful ambience; made to feel very welcome and good pace
I have been through many personal trainers and gyms, and Sitaras Fitness is light years ahead of any other gym I've ever been to. John and his team worked with me to tailor my workouts to get the exact results I wanted. He is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to exercise and fitness and knows all of the science behind the perfect work out. If you have the drive, John will get you results.
OMG it was amazing!!!! I was given afternoon tea when I arrived which was really really delicious, the girls were very attentive and brought over the nail polish colours for me to browse. I then had a really good OPI manicure with lots of beautifully scented oils massaged into my hands and nails. The girl then asked if I wanted to go to the relaxation area which had state-of-the-art reclining beds, soothing music, and they brought me a martini there. I would go back in a flash if I had a chance. Thanks Wahanda, that was the best one yet!!
Recommend this to everyone to try at least once, they won't regret it even if you go with a group of friends, it's a great day out and you'll not even notice you're doing exercise
The fish pedicure was fun and afterwards my feet were really soft, the little fish are very slightly tickly but they do an excellent job and I would definately like to repeat the experience. would recommend.
Although the rating indicates that I went for a personal trainign session, I went for an afternnon tea, with a manicure and a martini included.
This was amazing. The place is gorgeous, the staff really nice, the treament was good and the food was amazing.
I would definitely recommend it to all my friends, and would do it again if a wahanda deal is done again -otherwise it is too expensive. But with this deal, it becomes great value for money!
From the moment i arrived i enjoyed it all !
Set in a relaxing comfortable environment, surrounded by all the comforts you would want for a pamering session.I had a manicure which was lovley the therapist was great . The tea and cakes selection was amazing. Went with my firend and we had the best time,, highly recommended from a girly afternoon!
Staff in this gym don`t know what they are doing at all. When i first came i said that i am interesting only in gym. Some guy at the front desk told me that i can`t just come their any time i want (to gym) and i have to book time first. And that is not true. You need to book time for classes only, but i found out about this late. In a few month time i decided to cancel my membership. Contract says to give 30 days notice. 1 of Desember i called them to ask if 2 of Desember will be counted or not so i don`t have to pay in January. And i`ve been told that no problem. I can come 2 of Desember to feel the cancelation form. They can garantee money is not gonna be taken from my account in January. So i did. But 4 of January money came out from my account. I called them. They said that they are sorry, staff member informed me wrong and they not gonna give me refund. After i asked them " I have to pay for your staff member`s mistake? Your staff don`t now what they are doing and i have to pay for it?" - they said "Yes, we are sorry, but yes"........ Never go to that stupid gym. Find better one.
I had heard a lot about the infamous fish pedicure and upon trying it I was not disapointed. Emerging my feet in the dark pool of what seemed just water to me resulted in the tiny fish immediately 'attacking' my feet. The sensation was strange at first, but I got used to it quickly and was mesmerised by the fish for the whole duration. My feet felt really soft to the touch and I was thoroughly relaxed. I would highly recommend this.
I had booked the manicure and afternoon tea as a treat for a group of friends. When we arrived we were greeted warmly and seated in the spa area with a cup of tea and a biscuit. Since we were 4 they did the manicures 2 and 2 which was nice since it gave us a chance to catch up with each other. After the manicures we were yet again seated in the spa area for our lovely afternoon tea. The whole experience was very relaxing and the only dissappointment was that the afternoon tea was served in the spa area rather than in the Rose room.
Brilliant to have you own personal pole. Previous courses was on a shared pole so you had to wait your turn. Teaches a lot of new moves, doesn't have enough time to concentrate on everyone and their moves and sometimes can't see or hear very well. But overall the class is a good size, starts on time and lasts the whole hour. I ache about a week after, so we must be doing something right! Totally enjoyable.
I went in to get the fish pedicure without any pre-expectations whatsoever. I didnt even see the little black fish once I placed my feet in the dark fish tank - but I felt them. It felt like a million tiny nails attacking your feet-but in a good way. I was mesmerized & couldn't take my eyes away for the whole 30mins. At first it felt slightly un-natural, but I quickly got used to the feeling and loved it.
My feet felt really really soft after and I would definitelly do this again!
Everyone should give this a go. It was great with a friend as well. Really fun experience. Wanted to do this after travelling so been walking allot and thought the fish would get a good feast out of me. Save me having to file my own feet too
I went with my sister and we both thoroughly enjoyed the high tea and our manicures and martini! The hotel and spa are beautiful. The staff were very attentive and professional. We spent a great two hours relaxing and eating.
ive recently joined the lucille roberts at fordham road. i first was invited as a guest by my coworker and was somewhat skeptical. but the excitement began when i herd the good music. i was a little surprised that i enjoyed the music and when i turned to the aerobic floor i realized i had stepped into a zumba class. i had the best time ever! im new at the dancing part but felt very welcomed by the instructor . we danced every type of music possible, i luved that my coworker tried and laughed and enjoyed the workout. by the end of the class to my surprise i was drenched in sweat... thats when i decided to try the membership...so far so good..
i joind this gym the other day with two friends. i am so happy I did I finally found a place where I am getting a great workout and enjoy going to! the classes are so much fun and gotta say the zumba is awesome...al i can say is if you may be thinking of joining do it! I am greatful to my friend for dragging me there...now I plan on staying! alreadt had my orientation and it fun and informative!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did the powerplate personal training session. It was really good and I would highly recommend. I am now checking my finances to see if it is feasible for me to buy a set of sessions with them.
Definitely seems worth the money and good value
really central location. the spa at sofitel is beautifully decorated and the staff were wpleasant and welcoming. we were looked after very soon after arrival. the martini was gorgeous, the manicure was ok, and the tea afterwards was great. nice and fresh and very tasty. we really enjoyed the day.
This was the most amazing experience. The trainers are brilliant and the setting of the place is awesome - all really inspiring. There was a great crowd on this trip, but it's the staff that really make it. They really know their stuff, and give you lots of personal attention. The food was great too, and plenty of it. I would recommend this 100%.
Really enjoy training with Murat, he's professional and motivates me to try harder! I've sarted to enjoy running for the first time in my life and would recommend him to anybody looking to get results and have fun at the same time.
The boutique, private studio setting and state-of-the-art equipment set this gym experience apart from others. The sessions are well planned, varied and rewarding, and Rebecca excels as a personal trainer, both in terms of technical expertise and delivery style.
A quality service in every way, and I recommend without hesitation.
Thanks Rebecca!
Fit4Fitness Boot camp is fantastic!!! Excellent value for money and is fun with noticeably effective results!! Murat is brilliant, very friendly and most of all is committed to ensuring each participant gets the best out of the session!!
If you are looking for something that is fun where the results are near enough immediate fit4fitness is for you!
Boot Camp is GREAT - at last something I enjoy and that works. The trainer Murat is brilliant - really motivates you but makes it fun too and I am thrilled to have got rid of my wobbly tum. I actually have definition of muscles for the first time since leaving school and feel so much better overall - it's tough but that's what makes it a challenge - and no two classes are the same so it stays interesting.
Friedns and I brought the manicure with martini afternoon tea. The deal was amazing. The Spa was fantastic and we left feeling well pampered. Defin look out for deals at this spa again.
Myself and a friend went for afternoon tea and a manicure with martini. It was a very professional venue with attentive staff. We had our tea first. It was lovely and there was lots of it. Our only disappointment was that we had to have it at a long table in the Spa, rather than in the cosy afternoon tea room next to the spa entrance - which was a much more relaxed setting.
We then had our mini manicure and a cocktail. Both were grreat.
and at £25 it was very good value fo such a high end venue
I have been a member of Energie Fitness Club Wilmslow for a few years. What started as a nice family friendly club has drastically gone down hill this year. Poor facilities, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna regularily out of service. Only the most basic of amenities.
The staff at Energie Fitness Wilmslow have become quite lax with no concern for the customers and do not really provide the service you would expect of a membership club. This has seems to have filtered top down from the Wilmslow clubs owners who really do not appear in my opinion to know what customer service is.
AVOID there are plenty of other reasonably priced gyms locally you could try instead.
It is a very well-designed place, facilities are in great shape. The Gym has every machine one can needs, post work out a great 4 seated steam room, a good sized well maintained sauna and a 4 person Jacuzzi. Users overlook the requirement that they should wait 30 seconds instead of entering one after the other, the Jacuzzi is most likely fully primed and designed as top filed Jacuzzi, it needs patience, spill over by the clients lead to some spill , it is al lovely well designed and a has ambient lighting. SPA has four treatment rooms I have been to all, well appointment and very graciously selected. I like the place small but beautiful where you feel a part and not an 'object' in a enormous place.
I have been going to the gym for many years and was a bit sceptical about what Hypoxi does like all begginers. I went for a free consultation which is rare nowadays and Sylwia and Steve explained to me how HYPOXI works. I started with size 36 waist and after 24 sessions on Vacunaut I am size 32 waist. I can t believe that i managed to lose over 7 inches (17.5 cm) from my stomach area.
My wife joined now and she is very happy with her results.
I would reccomend it to everyone, all men and women and all sizes.
Well done Hypoxi South Woodford!!!!!
they are have a personal, one to one touch with clients.
Fitness first is the worst gym I have ever been in my life. They have ripped my money off. Despite giving them a months notice they still charged on my bank account. And further more after I gave them my ID number the phone (headoffice) further then wasnt answered and disconnected several times straightaway.
They again want to charge me for the next month just because the membership manager couldnt find any cancellation notice on their system (which I called them last month and informed them) and hence want to charge me more more more more more. I have read the same complaints on many websites and so you can check as well. Some of my friends also have a terrible experience about this company and their conning off policies.
And then they say the call wasnt recorded. It was recorded I know but because its their mistake they will obviously wont point out.
So do they want me to pay for the whole year despite I am NOT on a contract and NOT using their services. ?
I will make a legal complaint against them and get my money back.
Very very rude people at their headoffice and at the gym.
It is definitely a resort kind arrangement a mile from Kings Road. Good views all around, great food plus fab gym. WE had a great weekend, funnily there was a huge hen party of dozens of girls and they all seemed to have loved the place, lot of champagne and cup cakes were being consumed followed by good workouts. Great treatments in the SPA, will definitely suggest.
I paid about £46 to join their budget £17 option, thinking it would be ideal. I turned up to pick up my membership card, and there was no there to help and the kiosk said to report it to a member of staff. I waited for ages for someone to come over. I got let in and was told they would have to order me a card. I used the changing rooms - which spelt like a drain, and there was places where the walls had been re-plastered but not painted. The equipment is a bit out of date and it worked ok. The gym floor seems to be uneven.
I had to find staff to get disinfectant spray for the machines, and paper tissues at a later point. I had to ask a personal trainer (well fit) to get some, and they went to get someone else to get the stuff.
I left the gym and cancelled my membership - I wouldn't recommend them because they fall short of other gyms who charge more but give more value.
I went to this once or twice a week. Kat was doing classes 3 times a week. At the beginning of the month it was tough but at least there were 6 of us, all of differing fitness levels, to laugh about it. Kat changes exercises quickly so you don't get bored (you do get exhausted). We do everything from running to bench presses, to games and boxing. By the end of the month it was easy to see the difference in fitness of all of us. It was also great to be outside in the park at your lunch break.
Definitely worth it.
After a lumbar fusion 5 years ago and increasingly sedentary work and travel my back was ceasing to support normal day-to-day activities, with agonising muscular pains developing from the slightest activities. Dan Roberts' article in "The Independent" painted a picture of a scientific assessment approach leading to a strength building (but not strenuous) exercise regime, and so I contacted Jeff Murray. His approach is exactly that and much more. Following observations and measurement he devised exercises that within three weeks have virtually eliminated my back pain and have rebuilt back stamina. Most importantly it's given me confidence of mobility without the risk of getting hurt, and, having finished my on-to-one sessions with Jeff I now have an excellent ongoing back exercise routine. I'm working on persuading my wife to take a similar assessment and course.
I went for a free powerplate session at this gym and didn't realise until I got there that it would be one-on-one with a personal trainer! The trainer was excellent, really attentive and kept the workout varied and fast paced.
Although it is a bit difficult to find and doesn't look like much from the outside, this is a really nice, smart gym in a central location. It was very clean, well equiped and didn't seem overcrowded, although I did go outside of peak hours.
The prices for the powerplate courses were suprisingly reasonable and competitive, especially when you consider the fact that you get a personal trainer for less than many other venues charge for group sessions. I am definitely planning to sign up for a course.
Stayed for my birthday after having a baby 8 weeks prior. Brilliant value for money, had excellent treatment from staff especially Duty Manager Maggie, she made our stay extra special by going that extra mile. Me and my husband had several treatments of which we were pleased, found the food excellent and we both throughly enjoyed our stay. I shall be taking my mum this month too.
I recently contacted head trainer Rohit at Legally Fit Personal Training and booked in for a session. I consider myself someone how is reasonably fit. My aim is to tone up generally and increase my cardio. Rohit tok me throught a series of excercises that relly hit the mark. The session flew by and it was great fun. If mundane gym excersises are you thing look elseware but if you want really exciting work out check him out.
I have now had seven sessions with him and I cannot recommend him enough.
good size, classes are really good. Involves their members rather than just providing, some social side but could do more.
some of the gym equip needs fixing and don't work but plenty of it, only few tv's so cant see from all equipment.
Gents changing rooms look like they need a good steam clean. pool nice and clean as with other wet areas but far too much chlorine in the pool, too much to use every day as the usual eyes hurt and excessive dry skin.
Worth going in for a day pass and maybe take up fixed 6 week package to try it.
shame it's missing the usual cafe / food service
Staff are really good and one of the best bit of this facility.
I have trained in Gyms and also used beauty therapists for many years. However, the staff and facilities at Virgin Regents Park are second to none. I work shifts, sometimes this can be difficult to arrange appointments. All the staff from the Front Desk to Steffi, the health spa manager certainly give you the personal touch.
The Gym and changing area is spotless, the equipment is up good, with FRIENDLY staff on hand to help.
Whether you are the body beautiful or it's your first time walking into a gym. You are treated with a friendly, professional member of staff.
I would throughly recommend this Gym. The Beauty Spa is Fantastic!!!!
I have been doing the program at Get In Shape for Women for 3 weeks now - and I am going 3x a week. I love the trainers - they are so suportive and can tweak the workouts to help me reach my goals. The strength portion of the program is great. I really feel stronger and more toned already. The cardio portion is hard but effective, and that is why I'm going! All the equipment is brand new and works really well. The nutritional aspect can be hard to stick with, as with any new eating plan, but I am doing my best. I have lost weight and am feeling great - many of my aches and pains have gone away and I feel super energetic. I am just having a great overall experience at this gym!
Really enjoying my sessions with the walker bros fitness guys. I have lost weight already and I think it is the best fitness bootcamp out there much better than the army bootcamps as they have personality and all the equipment.
This Gym/fitness club is great. Staff are very nice and helpful, changing rooms are big and relaxing. Gym equipment is top class, pool is hardly ever busy and the whole place just feels so relaxed.
The place has a really relaxed placed to eat and drink, tvs dotted all over the place and plenty of different exercise machines to try out. Free towels, free weights area, free pool usage, free classes make it worth while. Only thing against it is the price, but I got a decent price that wasn't much more expensive then my local lesuire center.
Would recommend this place to anybody.
I've been a member since February 2010 and try and attend 2-3 times a week. I've been to the majority of classes, the gym and the pool area. You can use any Virgin gym with your membership card so good for if you travel or work near another gym.
Classes
Would definitely say this is the best part. The variety of classes is great and all the instructors I have had are great, especially Claire and Dennis in Spining, they certainly work you hard! But you don't even realise the time, it really does fly by. You have to book in for classes the day before which I personally think works great as it means the classes don't get booked up by people who book and then forget to attend. They also operate a standby system if the class is booked up. One tiny moan is the air con, it's just not powerfull enough in the spin room or studio!
Gym
Average size for a London gym. You do have to queue for the cardio equipment in busy times which can get frustrating. It also has 2 powerplate machines which are free to use and when I first used them a member of staff spent about 20 mins with me going through various exercises which was very useful.
Pool are
Again average size pool for a London gym and it's never been overcrowded when I've used it. There is also a jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms which is a nice added extra. Oh and free towels which is a big bonus!
Overall, a good gym with lots of facilities and worth a look around.
The facilities here are beautiful as far as a gym goes and also immaculate. Many people complain about the cost, but if you are a dedicated gym person then Equinox is great. All the equipment is brand new. The classes are amazing and the intructors are all top notch. You'll get much more interesting and diverse set of classes than you would at any other gym. Not to mention if you want to develop a personal training system, all of their trainers are excellent. They do a fitness test to asses your level of fitness even before they begin.
As an overweight middle aged woman I was extremley anxious about the prospect of going into any gym due to some historical negative experiences.
On arrival at Fitness First staff were immediatley sensitive to my anxieties they were keen to reassure me of the willingness of staff and other gym members to support me. Its now 12 months on and I would recommend this gym to anyone, the staff have continued to be supportive, members are friendly and I never thought I would say this but I enjoy every visit to this establishemt.
Keep up the good work Fitness First Doncaster.
I have known Jeff for some 20 years initially as a personal trainer and more latterly as somebody who has helped me overcome various problems as I get older. He saw me through a major cancer operation 15 years ago to the point where I have subsequently run 8 marathons, climbed mountains (Kilimanjaro, Kinabalu, Sinai), completed major multiday walks around the world, including, Dead Sea to Petra, all the 8 major walks in New Zealand, Coast to Coast in England, Rift Valley in Kenya, Lyke Wake walk, Atlas Mountains in Morroco plus many many more. What impresses me and what I like about Ambition Fitness is that all the consultants work together to provide the correct remedial action to get the desired results. I am currently seeing Jeff and Toby, the osteopath, to help me overcome knee problems and get me ready to tackle one of the toughest walks in Europe, the GR20 in Corsica, in June. I am now nearly 67. I have no hestitation in recommending Ambition Fitness who are very professional and ensure they keep themselves up to date with latest techniques in the health and fitness industry.
I have been using Ambition for about 2 years and they have always been very professional, helpful friendly and knowledgeable.
My first visit was with a stiff shoulder which they treated but they also looked at my overall well being which was not very good at the time. Through a combination of nutritional advice, personal training and encouragement I have gone from being an unhealthy, unfit, aching coach potato to loosing over 3 1/2 stone and completing my first half marathon.
Would highly recomend Ambition and their ethos of wellbeing.
I was a dedicated client of Ambition Fitness between August 2008 and April 2009, when I moved out of London. Originally I went for osteopathy, which was very effective and almost immediately brought improvement in the issue I was treating. I moved onto personal training with Jeff, which was excellent and I would recommend to anyone. I had for years been stuck in a rut, using the cardio machines every day at the gym. But, with a new routine, customized for my personal situation I was able to build core strength, flexibility and improve my overall fitness. For the first time in years I saw real change in my overall body (posture and muscle tone), and started to feel great about myself!
After a gruelling year of major surgery, chemotherapy and radio therapy, I went to Ambition Health and Performance. With great knowledge and patience, they have worked with me on a step-by-step program which has enabled me to resume all my normal activities. Much to my surprise, symptoms (specifically joint pain and numbness) which the doctors and physiotherapists advised me ‘to learn to live with’ have disappeared. After 6 months, I feel and see a huge difference. And I can wear clothes that haven’t fitted for years!
I ruptured my achilles tendon playing football in 2008 and, being familiar with their work, had no hesitation in approaching the team to help with my rehabilitation.
Their innovative and detailed approach meant that I was able to make a full recovery within 6 months. Not only that, my overall fitness and posture also improved as a result.
I have no hesitation in recommending Ambition for their expertise and professionalism.
Went to Ambition with chronic back pain caused by a bulging disc. Very attentive and intelligent treatment. The issue was dealt with very effectively and it was also a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Highly recommended.
I was sent to Ambition by my osteopath who felt they could help with the problem while he sorted out the symptoms. After three months of going twice a week my friends all tell me I look different and I feel different. I have worked quite hard in the sessions but never hurt the next day - something I never managed in previous visits to gyms! Sorting out 40 years of misuse, knee and back surgery will still take a while but I'm on a good path.
Thanks Ambition,
Roderick - very nearly 60!
I visited this gym to enquire about prices, classes etc and the staff were so rude I ended up leaving and vowing never to return.
They refused to tell me anything unless I gave them my full name and address as well as phone number which I didn't want to do as I had no desire to be bombarded with junk and calls.
They then refused to even tell me what times they were open, what classes they did- all due to health and safety apparently. Seriously? Getting my phone number cures a strange H&S issues about telling me what time you're open?
I had already waited 30 minutes+ in a filthy reception area seeing many other disgruntled members and figured perhaps I already knew all I needed to know and left
The number one difference between Virgin Active and Fitness First is that Virgin rely on free weights whilst at Fitness First you can choose to do the exercize on machines or free weights.
This means if you are a beginer - or not sure how to use the free weights for everything - Virgin Active is definaltly not for you. Its much better to join somewhere where you will be confortable training at - and then join Virgin later on once yo know how to use all the free wheights.
At Virgin you are dumped in at the deep end. Virgin Active no longer do proper inductions - they hand you a photocopy sheet with four different programs (weight loss, tone up, build upetc) and expect you to
to go to group 'how-to' sessions whilst they demonstate how to use the equipment / weights to a group of people (but crucially it means they check your technique).
When you join they give you the option of paying for 2 personal training sessions at a reduced rate of £40. However, all my friends who have had these have said they are s very mediocre - and they gave them complicated moves that they would have no chance of doing on their own.
What most people want to be able to do is learn the basics of body building such as squats, dead lifts etc so they can train by themseves after a couple of months- but it was clear that the programe was designed to make it impossible to train without a trainer.
Cost of the PT is another factor - You can buy packs. The cheapest package deal (if you can call it a deal) is 1 hour sessions are £40 an hour by direct debit, for a minimum of 4 per month for a minumin term of 3 months = £640 in total. However, have ongoing training / top up sessions to rewrite a programe is not really an option (unless you love burning money) as the minumin you can buy is 3 at £160 (£53 each).
I left Virgin and joined Nuffield Health and the staff their showed me how to the exercizes - what Virgin wanted to charge me for - and I saved £££hundreds as a result. Its a bit more cramped but I found the knowlege they were willing to impart and help and guidance they gave me more than made up for it.
The Oxford Street gym would be a good gym if you are experanced at using the free weights but they really have to improve how they treat people new to the gym.
I
I was lucky enough to try the facilities for free so definitely spot on for value for money. It's a lovely venue and the grounds are beautiful. Staff are friendly bit on the small side for a spa and you can't have lunch in the spa area but nice all the same.
Please go through mails below which are self explanatory. On complain for cold water second time I was contacted by the of member of staff, whom I and many other members had been continuously complain for the cold water told me that can you please let me what is the problem as he had not received my first referred complain. On again telling him all the problem still they are not able to give me any definite date that when it will be fixed.
This refers to my earlier complain referenced TW62142 dated 16/2/10. May I know why there is no response from you also?
Since last two month there is no hot water I had complain it to Manager and staff many time. Many people are regularly complaining and despite of that are compel to take cold shower. They are giving following responses.
1- Because of the cold weather it gets cold.
2- Because there are many member using it gets cold after 8pm.
3- In the beginning of last month manager did accept that boiler is broken and we had got fund and it will be fixed very soon.
My concern is this that why last year it was not getting cold even there use to snow outside. Now days daily one or two new members joins the club about which you will be well aware, if this problem is due to over crowding than if you are not interested in investing in why more members are being added. If realy funds have been allocated than when the boiler will be fixed can I have a fix date? This is a daily occurrence and I am sure that you will be well informed about this. Can you imagine what would be the situation if you take a cold bath after exercise and going through the steam room, it feels ice cold and last month I had got muscle cramp and this month I had got a pimple in the neck as it is not possible to take cold bath. Should I think that this will not be addressed and problem will be automatically sorted about as winter is coming to end?
Went to this place for a free 30 mins personal training, turned up early the personal trainer Bill was there waiting for me . greeted me with a friendly smile and then off we went , did not have to wait till the proper time which I thought was a nice touch. Took my details and then of we went , warmed up on the bike an then on to some free weights, quite intense but Bill was pushing me in the right way, did some exercises on the fit ball and on the mat , then on to the rowing machine this was good never been on one before but Bill showed me how to use it the correct way. Finished with some stomach work and then upstairs to the cross trainer another machine not use to but soon showed the correct way to use it, worked hard and then a good cool down and stretch , Bill noticed a old karate injury and then gave some advice on how to work it better. Time went quick loads of equipment classes everything to get fit on all levels swimming pool as well. The free 30 mins personal training ended up nearly a hour Bill pushed me hard and I really enjoyed it, will be back there soon now I no what to look forward to.
staff are eager to sign you up but the place is always busy so no real chance to use the equipment, the changing rooms are dirty and the toilets smell real bad all the time. the staff at the evenins shift seam like they dont want to be there.
I have been going to 24 Hour Fitness in San Carlos for awhile for strength and cardio training. The gym is well-equipped: it has an enormous group exercise room, which is so large that I can't imagine that it can ever feel crowded; there are just enough cardio machines to suit your needs; the spinning room is always packed, filled with loud music and spinners; and the weight area has pretty much everything you need. I am not a fan of the changing/shower area, however, and it is difficult to find parking during peak hours. In addition, I really wish this 24 Hour location had a pool. But overall the facilities are good, even though it is lacking in ambiance; it feels like you are in a converted warehouse.
I finally decided at some point to sign up for personal training sessions with Marc P., who is a great trainer. His training style fits my personality perfectly. He takes time in the beginning to assess where your body is at (weight and muscle-wise) and makes a plan of action, both in terms of nutrition and fitness, explaining his recommendations. I seemed to pose an unusual challenge for Marc, since my goals are to gain, not lose, weight, as well as to build upper body strength... and he seemed excited about taking on this seemingly rare weight issue :)
I am the type of person who does not get motivated by being yelled at and pushed aggressively by a trainer. I spent years training as a dancer, years in which we had intense 2 hour conditioning sessions filled with screaming and threats. I don't respond to such training anymore and knew that if I came across a trainer like that, I'd quit. Luckily Marc has just the right blend of motivation and understanding, and I already knew he'd be an awesome trainer since he got my sister into fabulous shape for her wedding. In fact, it turns out that I was pushing myself harder than he was, which actually led me to have one moment of lightheadedness and nausea. Marc immediately ended the session and explained why I felt so ill and what to do about it. For someone who hates the gym environment, I started to look forward to my training sessions with Marc and noticed a positive difference in my energy and strength pretty soon...
Unfortunately I had to stop our training sessions due to a busy travel schedule and the holidays .. . and the the Bay Bridge shutdown occurred, which prevented Marc from getting down to the Peninsula to work at the gym. But he is so dedicated to his clients that he tried to get down to San Carlos every morning (waking up at a god-forsaken hour), despite the fact that most people gave up on trying to commute during this shutdown.
I haven't gotten back into a gym schedule yet, but look forward to starting up some new sessions with Marc again soon. One more note: Marc has also been a trainer for over 20 years and looks amazing himself, looking much younger than his actual age! You'd never guess! Quite an inspiration.
Earlier in 2009, and after becoming a little out of shape, I decided to receive some personal training at Xpect to see what could be done. What I achieved more than exceeded my expectations.
I was given a great routine to follow which fitted in with my home and professional life plus by also following the nutrition advice I was given I started to see results after the 1st week. The regular follow-up and encouragement they gave helped me to loose the first two and a half stone within 3 months, which seven months later is still off.
The major benefit to me has been that my fitness levels are so much better now and as a bonus people say that I look younger too.
This gym is in the perfect location for anyone that lives on the north/east side of Salinas. The staff there is very friendly and always willing to go that extra mile to make sure their members satisfaction is met.
I have only recently joined Fitness First in Crewe and prior to doing so read an enormous amount about Fitness First as a company in general, the feeling wasn't good. However I decided to visit our local one just to see first hand for myself. The gym is absolutely fantastic, well equipped, clean and all the equipment is currently in full working order. The staff could not do enough to help me, from the staff on the reception desk to the personal trainers. I had three "Bodyfirst" sessions, the first with Tim, where he showed me around the gym and introduced me to basic cardio, he also took my statistics - which weren't pretty, from the very first session I felt instantly motivated. Having discussed my situation with another of the personal trainers I was transferred to Jen as she herself has battled and won the fight with excess fat so could help me more, drawing on first hand experience. She is absolutely amazing and incredibly well educated in nutrition and fitness. Each time I have been I have been given reading material specifically to help me on my fat loss journey. Even when Jen was unable to make a session, the gym manager stepped in and wrote me a little cardio program specific to the length of time I had to work-out. I feel that despite not being a great advert for Fitness First myself, that these people actually care that you get what you want out of the gym and are armed with the knowledge to help you along the way. It makes a real change from the disinterested, clock watching, staff I have encountered at previous gyms. I would highly recommend this gym and would encourage others to give it a try. I feel much less likely to fall off track knowing that this isn't just a building with machines in (although some of the men look a bit like them!) but a great establishment with staff that actually care.
As gyms go, Body Works West is a sanctuary. Upon entry, there are aromatherapy candles burning and a bright and light atmosphere. There is a host of different offerings from pilates (extra cost) to boxing circuits to yoga, plus one free personal training session a month. The facilities are state-of-the-art and the staff are friendly and helpful. There is also a pool and a sauna and lovely dressing rooms with nice products and amenities. I have never been so positive about going to a gym!
Quite a good club. I am currently doing persoanl training with Chris Lyons who is both professional and very knowledgeable. I found it hard to motivate myself to train before I started personal training but have noticed many positive changes recently. I personally find classes a little boring so can’t comment on those. When I first joined there were numerous problems with the spa and pool but since the recent £400,000 refurb all has been well.
3 floors of most kind of exercise equipment one can imagine. DJ on most nights. Gym is overall very modern, not overly crowded (except after Xmas 6-8pm). There are many types of different classes. Spinning and abs are among the better ones. The personal trainers are knowledgable, usually accesible, although some could visually look more motivating (i.e. many have bellies bigger than the customers). Sauna is average, steam room is very good. Price range is toppy although one can design a corporate plan or similar
I went to Powertone for one of the Wahanda trial offers and had a great time. The facility is not that big and its in the basement but the location is great (just off Regent St) and Powertone have done a good job to make the space feel clean and airy. I really think that power plate is a great way to stay fit if you are looking for something you can do quickly in a convenient location and get real attention from an instructor. I am always amazed at how much you feel it in just 30 mins. Definitely going back.
If I had a complaint on this session it was that the studio was a bit short staffed when I was there so the instructor had to take care of a few different people including someone coming in for a treatment. I think this was an unusual circumstance and I have to say that I thought she did a great job in managing everything.
Matt Roberts offers top-of-the line personal training in the heart of Mayfair which makes for a highly efficient workout. I get like 4x more out of a personal training session here than I do from a visit to the gym on my own.
It is not cheap, but the personal training is of excellent quality and I suppose you get what you pay for...
Wanting to tone up and get fit for race-for-life this summer, I jumped at the chance of reviewing Sussex Bootcamps for Wahanda.com! So I downloaded the friendly introduction of what was in store for me over the next month, the Bootcamp Success Guide- which included a couple of tasks such as recording my body measurements to monitor inch/weight loss, writing down the goals that I wanted to achieve from Bootcamp, as well as information such as nutritional advice, and how to sign up to the members site where I could chat to the Bootcamp trainers and fellow 'Bootcampers' as well as get regular updates on Bootcamp happenings.
I agreed to the four-week plan of three 45 minute sessions a week, opting for the women-only sessions, commencing at 9.30am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (for people who have commitments during the day, there is also the choice of an early morning session at 6.15am or evening sessions starting at 6.15pm or 7.15pm). Come Monday 9th March, off I trotted on a lovely sunny morning to Beech Hurst gardens, Haywards Heath, for my first Bootcamp session! Here’s how it went…
Week 1
Monday DAY 1 - 9.30am Beech Hurst Gardens.
After a bowl of porridge with nuts, dried dates and honey, I was eager to start because after a few weeks of working from home, I felt like a rabbit trapped in a cage! I arrived a few minutes early with my bottle of water and towel that we are advised to bring to every session. Once everyone had arrived, our trainer for the next four weeks, Ben Davis, introduced himself to the new 'Bootcampers' and gave us a brief overview of what the next few weeks would entail. We began with a quick ice-breaker to learn each others names (there are 20 places available on each Bootcamp, many of the women are regular Bootcampers- some coming back every month), before starting the warm up routine.
Feeling loose and flexible, we then moved on to the core sequence which consisted of the plank, back bridge, side bridge and one I hadn't heard of before - the grasshopper (these are all quite difficult positions to explain, so I recommend you search for images if you don’t know what they are!). Ben gave very thorough instructions and demonstrated different versions of each for those at different levels of fitness - which I appreciated because I need to build up my upper body strength, and find the straight leg version of the side plank quite tough, so I opted for legs tucked in – and aimed to do the proper version by the end of the four weeks!
The grasshopper was a slight killer, but I did my best, and to be honest was quite pleased when the 30seconds were up! After a quick water break, 40 seconds of squats with a two second pause at the bottom of each were up next- which were rapidly becoming my favourite- especially whilst being able to look at the lovely view of the downs! Then onto thigh crunching lunges for 40 seconds. At this point I was beginning to feel the burn, but it felt good to work through it with some star jumps (which I discovered get me really out of breath and are not as easy as I remember them being when I was a 10 year old!), high knee run-on-the-spots and the back bridge, all for 30 seconds.
I liked the short spurts of different exercises as it stops me from getting bored, which is where I think I went wrong in the past - doing the same thing for too long meant I wouldn’t put as much effort in. I also found Ben very encouraging, and it’s nice to be in a group of motivated ladies rather than on your own in a stuffy gym where everyone keeps themselves to themselves! We then did press ups with 2 seconds pause when down, standing row, and skipping for one minute- which I struggle with as I cant seem to co-ordinate my legs! Then side bridge for 20secs each side, and then repeat from squats and finally a warm down. Ben advised us to keep moving throughout the day and not to take a hot bath as this prolongs the muscle ache.
The first session went really fast – I really enjoyed it and was feeling motivated for the rest of the day!
Wednesday DAY 2 - A nutritional bowl of muesli and I was ready for my second session, but ouch, did my thighs really ache from Monday. I spent most of Tuesday complaining and struggling on the stairs! I wondered if it was because I hadn’t warmed-down enough, but it was more likely that I just wasn't used to all that exercise.
Ben asked everyone how they were feeling, a few other ladies were also aching, so it was on with a good warm up. We did the same core sequence as Monday, as well as static side lunges (moving side to side), press ups, half sit ups with a hold, jumping punches and regular stepping lunges for 40s.
Then, we paired up and got the punch pads out. I hadn’t done any boxing before so it was a new experience for me and I really enjoyed it - another Bootcamper suggested that it’s a good way of releasing any hidden anger- I agreed! Ben advised us the correct way to box, and to have one leg in front of the other. We swapped places with our partners encouraging them to do their best, and then we all warmed down.
Friday DAY 3 - My shoulders were aching after the boxing on Wednesday's session, but my thighs had stopped hurting and I was feeling like I had more energy. After a warm up, we had a test! Argh! It wasn't as bad as it sounded at the time- it was just so we could monitor our improvement over the month. So we took a pen and paper and recorded the amount of squats, press ups, walking lunges, dips, mountain climbers and skipping we could do in a minute. After our quick water break we did the core sequence and then repeated hook punches, kneeling row and side shuffle, keeping slow for new people.
Ben advised us to make sensible consumption decisions over the weekend, i.e, to watch what we eat and drink! (I knew I had a girly night in store, which normally consists of camembert and cocktails) and to keep the good work up over the weekend.
Week 2
Monday DAY 4 - It was the beginning of week two, and after a relaxed weekend I was looking forward to 45 minutes of hard exercise. A good warm-up and we got on with the core sequence. Ben reinforced the concepts of keeping a neutral back position whilst doing 30 seconds of the plank, back bridge, grasshopper and side bridge for 20 seconds.
We then went on to do squats, static lunges, star jumps and high knee run-on-the-spots both for 30 seconds, and the back bridge. We then repeated that sequence once again, before doing press ups on the bench (pausing for 2 seconds when down), standing row with a partner, skipping and finally the side bridge before repeating and changing sides.
After a good warm down, we all stayed behind for a drink (I made a healthy choice and had a glass of fresh orange juice rich in vitamin C) and talk with Bootcamp’s life coach Will Perry, who gave us an insight into how he could help us on the motivation side of things. He explained that through one-to-one emails or the Sussex Bootcamps members site, he could offer us free help and advice on getting into the right mind set to achieve your goals from Bootcamp, such as making the right nutritional decisions to lose weight, and feeling more confident within yourself. I thought this was very helpful; although I am quite good at self motivation, people who just need that extra nudge of support could benefit greatly from it. I went home feeling good about myself and had lots of energy. I decided to go on a nice long walk in the afternoon to keep up the good work and burn a few more calories!
Wednesday DAY 5 - I was getting used to having a nice big bowl of porridge on the days of Bootcamp, as I found this the only thing to give me enough energy for each session. I would vary what I ate on my days in between Bootcamp, having either egg on toast, fruit or cereal.
A good warm up including a skip around the picturesque grounds, and we were ready to start the core sequence which was a repeat of Monday’s. We then did squats to calf raises - which meant on the way out of the squat we were to come up on to tip toes. Then triceps dips - I chose a spot on the wall as I found it more comfortable than the bench, and Ben told us to keep strong and use our legs if our arms got too tired. Foot kicks, which is where you sit on your mat and balance with your arms down by your side with your legs bent and raised from the ground whilst you kick them out (very good for the old stomach muscles!). Last but not least, a brisk jog/run 'at your own pace' for 40 seconds before repeating the sequence.
After some other sequences, we had regular stepping lunges to look forward to. My legs were feeling a bit wobbly and aching from all the lunging at this point! Regular lunges feel a lot more effective than the static ones. We paired up to do the standing row, then back to our mats for 40secs of the curl up/crunch before some boxing.
Friday DAY 6- We had a particularly tough work out in store today. After our usual warm up we did 1 and half mins of work, then rest – trying to move from one straight into next – e.g. 45s squat with 45s press up then fairly good amount of rest before next pair. After the press up's we moved on to walking lunges and the plank (different versions for different ability levels). The walking lunges are tough but as they say- no pain no gain!
We then got the punch pads ready for upper cut punches with our partners. We teamed up with a different person each session to give us the chance to meet everyone and experience different ability levels. Once again Ben encouraged us to keep the good work up over the weekend, if we had any queries or needed any help we could contact him through the members site where we could start a discussion or message him privately.
Week 3
DAY 7 - Monday.
I cant believe how quickly the weeks are zooming by. We are half way through the four week course and I’m feeling good! I have a lot more energy throughout the day, I am feeling a lot healthier and I actually want to do exercise. Another thing I have noticed is that my appetite has grown! As I’m burning off more energy, I’m getting hungry quicker and eating bigger portions, but I’m sticking to healthy foods such as fish and vegetables, big salads with cheese or tuna, and healthy snacks like fruit and seeds. I’m also drinking a lot more water throughout the day and opting for jasmine tea rather than normal tea because I drink so much!
We start with the usual warm-up stretches around the grounds of Beech Hurst before beginning the core sequence. After a quick swig of water, de-layer of clothing and a few seconds to catch our breath, we had squats (with pause at bottom of each), static lunges (moving up and down), star jumps and burpees for 30s (on a bench/low wall hold your position like your about to do a press up, but instead you jump in and then up with your arms stretched above you, and then work back through it -with your hands flat on the bench you leap outwards, then to jump back in again and onto your tip-toes with your arms stretched to the sky - all very quickly). Burpees are not my favourite exercise as I found it churned my stomach from all the jumping, but I did my best albeit probably a bit slower than everyone else!
The last sequence of the session included press ups – wide and narrow for those who wanted, then repeated the whole sequence before a good warm down.
Wednesday DAY 8. A lovely fresh sunny morning, but quite chilly so I wear extra layers until we complete our warm-up. We continue with the same core sequence as Monday and then complete a sequence of squat to calf raises, tricep dips, foot kicks 40s and a run – twice! A water break and it's onto the next repeat sequence, followed by a good warm down and the 45 minute session has once again flown by.
Friday DAY 9 - After a few laps of the swimming pool in between Bootcamps, I felt extra energised and eager to start today’s session. We completed our warm-up before moving on to a sequence in which we did short sharp bursts of exercise to shock the system. This was very tiring but quite fun as we were changing positions quickly and concentrating on doing our best.
After we had caught our breath we paired up with someone different and got the punch pads out for boxing. Each partner did 40secs of upper cuts/ hook punches and kneeling row. We then repeated these three as many times as possible before having to end the session with the all important warm down.
The final week- Week 4.
DAY 10, Monday morning. I had to email Ben and let him know that frustratingly I could not attend today’s session as I had obtained a foot injury over the weekend. I was quite annoyed as it was the last week and I wanted to put as much effort in as I could, but before developing this injury I managed to make a quick trip to the gym on Saturday morning where I continued some of the exercises I had learnt at Bootcamp, mainly picking out my favourites and doing them for 30s each which were squats, grasshopper, lunges, plank, boxing, tricep dips, back bridge and foot kicks.
Wednesday DAY 11 - Every session Ben would check to see how we were feeling, and we could bring up any queries about aches and pains that we had. My left foot was still feeling a bit sore so I knew I had to be careful and take it easy- taking the session at my own pace.
After the warm up we claimed a mat each and started on a sequence inclusing sit up hold's – adding a slight turning through shoulders (not lower back) and the dreaded burpees. We then repeated this workout. Partnering-up (once we had caught out breath and had a swift water break) we began regular stepping lunges, standing row, and crunches before doing boxing and warming down.
At the end of the session Ben handed out information on the next Bootcamp- which included dates and times, as well as how to renew our membership if we wanted to. We were also handed flyers to give to any friends/family that might be interested in joining Sussex Bootcamps and invited to stay behind for a drink after Friday’s session. After helping Ben pack away equipment I went home in-the-know that there would be a test on Friday - our last session of the month.
Friday DAY 12 - final session. I woke up, weighed myself (to see if I had lost any pounds over the four weeks -YES, 5 pounds, rather pleased!) but also felt a bit sad that it was my last Bootcamp workout. However, when I arrived I was greeted by Ben’s big grin and reminded by our previous test score sheet, that we had a gruelling last session in store for us today.
So once we had completed our warm-up, we cracked on with the one minute tests. We started with squats- I think I managed about five more than I had done during our first test in week one. Press ups, a few more than before- this was definitely something I was pleased with, as it meant I had built up a bit more upper-body strength- which was one of my goals for Bootcamp. Walking lunges- 4 more, Tricep dips, an improvement! Mountain climbers - stayed the same, and finally skipping - I managed about three more. Overall I was very pleased with my results, I could definitely feel an improvement within myself, through toning and weight loss and just by feeling generally more energised and motivated in everyday life!
To finish, we did some boxing. We packed away the equipment and sat down for a drink (nice healthy orange for me!) to celebrate the end of a good month at Bootcamp. We reflected on our goals and achievements and overall everyone was very pleased and had had an enjoyable experience at Bootcamp be it their first time or the third month in a row.
I for one was most definitely impressed with with my achievements from Bootcamp. It is such a good experience, and I found it very friendly and motivating. The way Bootcamp is run and the service you get is really well thought out, it’s not only the very fun sessions you benefit from, but it is also the support of the trainers and other Bootcampers that is all a part of the Sussex Bootcamp ethos.
I would highly recommend Bootcamp for anyone of any age who is looking to improve their fitness and have a fun work out in a friendly environment. It is also a great way to meet people and make new friends, and the members site is also a good addition as you can chat to people and arrange group fitness events such as going for a run. I am most definitely going to return to Bootcamp in the future - voluntarily next time!
I have been a member of Cupcake for just over a year and have seen my little Princess grow with Cupcake - my daughter loves the chilled out atmosphere and multitude of toys, which allows my husband downtime looking after her. Meanwhile I avail myself of th wondertfull spa facilities and the wonderfull treatments - a special mention to Lucy!
I cant recommend Cupcake highly enough.
I can't wait to check out all the mum-to-be treatments as we're expecting another baby!
Without doubt the best investment I have EVER made in my life..... not only professionally but personally. The attention he paid and the fantastic results we made, are a true reflection on Richard's sense of drive and ambition delivered through his excellent training... I would recommend this programme for anyone seriously intent on changing not only their body shape but also their lifestyle. The nutritional advice alone, what to eat, why you're eating it, and why has changed my life, not to mention Richards intelliegent approach in training you to become self sufficient... A+... It took me long enough to convince myself to sign up, I only wish I had done it sooner. G
I went with a group of girlfriends. The cost worked out a lot better for us individually, as there was three of us. We have a wedding coming up in June, so we wanted to start getting in shape for that.
Richard put together individual training programs for us and had help with two of his personal trainers, who were very attentive as well as very nice to look at! The diet side was great. We all thought that would be the toughest challenge, but it was easy to follow. We did everything ranging from running on the beach (it is beautiful), swimming and had one afternoon in his great gym as it was raining.
We are all planning to go back in May to top ourselves up before the wedding day.
Richard is the perfect host and developed the program to suit my individual needs. The sauna after the swim was certainly a great way to start the day!
His nutrition system is excellent and I appreciated Richards support since leaving as I have found myself sticking to it.
I would highly recommend any couples or friends to go down for the weekend, as it was a great fitness experience, as well as a great place to de-stress from work.
I am looking forward to going again the the summer!!
Thanks guys.
Gap provides a brilliant fitness service. I would have to agree with the other comment already made. I think it's such an excellent idea to provide a mobile service in fitness because in the past I have wasted so much money paying for a gym membership and I was too lazy to attend. Having stumbled upon Gap's service on yell.com, I took that chance to be open to new ways to get me motivated into exercising so I took the plunge and called upon Gap Tran Mobile Personal Training.
Initially, I was skeptical about having a stranger come to my house to train me and I wondered back then how it would also work considering the limited space I had in the house. However Gap is very creative and is very smart with how he makes use of the surroundings to provide me an exercise platform. He showed me that it is possible to workout anywhere, even within a small space.
Looking at this in hindsight, I'm glad I took that plunge because it has changed my lifestyle. I'm alot more active than I use to be and I'm growing more confident each day and learning to love myself more in own skin. I have been training with Gap since the summer of 2008 and I still workout with him 3 or 4 days a week. He offers affordable personal training packages to suit the number of days per week you would like to train with him. It is in my opinion a very well planned price structure and it won't majorly dent your bank balance either. Think of it like this, you pay for what you get and I can tell you that you will get a great service. It is definitely value for your money.
He motivated me to work hard and gave me the confidence to love my body. He set me realistic timely goals which was hard at times but was there to help me through it. Now I am a healthy, happy and confident person thanks to him.
Apart from him being hard on me at times, it was all worth it.
Great location. We swam in the sea every morning to 'warm up' for 20 minutes, and this was in October!
Richard is a fascinating guy whether you are talking about fitness, training, diet (what you are there to learn more about) or his other experiences in films or the armed services.
I came back with a real sense of purpose in my personal fitness goals and a MUCH better understanding of my body. I wanted to get fit for the skiing season. The exercises he developed along with the continuity in training once back in London have genuinely helped my cardio, strength and flexibility for skiing. Three months later, I am still following the dietary advice he gave. I actually eat better now than i ever did before and crucially understand what i'm eating.
Altogether a great experience. I look forward to going back later in the year to learn more and continue my development.
I took advantage of a free one hour personal training session being offered by Damien, one of the personal trainers at Virgin Active Oxford Street.
We'd already met to discuss my goals and some long term injuries, so it was straight into the session. It was obviously well prepared as it had everything I'd asked for (more floor exercises than machines; a programme I could practice on my own) and was pitched at the right level of difficultly.
The real revelation for me was the assisted stretching at the end of the session. None of my previous trainers did this and it had an immediate and dramatic effect on my flexibility.
The only criticism I have is that not enough floor space is given over to exercise mats. This meant I had to do some of the exercise ball work on a dusty wooden floor. The ball kept slipping out from me and I once fell awkwardly.
Overall the whole session was very productive and I will be signing up for a course of 12 sessions for £450, which is apparently only on offer until the end of January.
My favourite place in Notting Hill. Ambience is great, staff is superb and the gym membership comes with 3 personal training sessions plus 1 per month extra for free. Pricier than Active, but worth the difference. Powerplate and pilates classes are very well done, but equipment can only be used during a class.
Virgin Active in Ealing has been resting on the laurels of Holmes Place for too long. They have kept prices at the Holmes place 'luxury' level (I pay about £90 per month for a rolling one month contract) but have invested very little in the facilities.
The gym floor, studio and cafe facilities are adequate, but the men's changing room and wet areas are simply unacceptable at any price, let alone ~£1000 a year. The smell is awful, there is extensive damage to lockers, showers are often broken or only run cold and the steam room is corroded and stained. These facilities obviously haven't been upgraded since the late nineties (I recognise the fittings and fixtures from other Holmes Places)
It is one thing to be run down, but it seems that little effort is made to make the best of what is there. I use the gym on Sunday mornings, and the shower areas look (and smell) like they haven't been cleaned after the Saturday night rush. I have used Virgin Active gyms in the centre of London, and these are always clean and tidy, so either the Ealing branch is poorly managed or Virgin Active only spends money on its 'prestige' locations.
It's not all bad; the adult and child swimming on Sunday mornings is great, and I had a fantastic personal trainer (£40 per hour) called Sue, who has now sadly moved to a different gym.
Matt Robert's is definitely London best personal training centre ! When you sign up, you have to pay for 25 sessions in advance, as well as a session with a nutritionist and physiotherapist, which makes the first payment quite pricey. But it is worth every penny, as the personal trainers are fantastic ! The advantage of having to sign up for 25 sessions is that you take it more seriously, and get into a serious routine.
I would recommend to try all trainers, so that you can pick and choose the one you prefer.
The space is very beautiful and clean, and there is a yoga studio which can also be used for boxing.
