Hair Removal - Threading

Break up that uni-brow. Threading is a technique of hair removal using twisted lengths of cotton to uproot your fuzz. It can be used in most areas of the body and was traditionally used for men’s beards, but these days it’s more often used for women’s eyebrows and armpits.

How does it work?

It may seem like a mysterious art, but threading (called Khite in Arabic) is actually quite simple and has the benefit of removing your hairs in straight rows for really accurate shaping. There are special devices for threading these days, but they mimic a very simple method that’s been used in India, Turkey and Egypt for hundreds of years – most threading specialists still use the traditional technique.

The thread used is just like normal sewing thread, folded in half and then twisted. Your therapist will hold the thread against your skin and use a scissoring action to catch the hairs in the twist and pull them out by the root.

Is it for me?

Threading is great for even the finest, downy fluff. It’s particularly good for small areas like the eyebrows or moustache area, but can be used in almost any area where you’re a bit furrier than you'd like to be. It’s also great for sensitive skin because while waxing can pull off the top layer of skin, threading is not as aggressive and doesn’t stick to your skin in the same way.

Threading is very accurate and great for facial hair, hands, feet, armpits and for getting rid of that abdomen snail-trail. Larger areas of skin can be threaded, but it will take longer than waxing.
