I just read the review about Virgin Active Ealing and find it hard to believe the club was that bad I have recently joined back at the gym and thought I’d check it out as this is my local Virgin Active.

Firstly I was met in the restaurant with one of the staff who was really friendly sorry I forgot her name but a lovely young girl who seemed to know everything about the club. We sat down and had a coffee and talked about what I was looking for before she showed me around. The club has apparently just had a re-fit and looks really nice. The studios have funky pictures on the walls and the cycling studio has pictures of mountains on the wall. The Gym is well proportioned and has everything I need for my workout.

The club was easy to get to and if you drive you can park right outside the door although you do have to pay. My membership is really cheap at only £70 a month which is really affordable for me.

I would recommend this club to my friends and really like the friendly vibe.

Please go somewhere else, they lie consistently and take no responsibility. Their service (including their Manager Stefanie) is laughable, in that there is no service or attempt to resolve anything. I have worked in customer service positions for over a decade and am disgusted with their poor treatment and deceptive practices. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, but if there are not applicable consumer protection settings in place I hope this review will help warn people about this location.

Once I signed the contract I could have been invisible, the most unpersonable staff prior to my having any problems with them. No tour, no assistance, no cleanliness.

When I joined the gym I was told that the membership was for one year and advised of the penalties for terminating prior to the end of that year. I remember asking if it was only for a year and the man that was signing me up said yes. Unfortunately I was unable to keep going to the gym after the first 2 months but understood about the termination fee and decided to just let the membership lapse after the end of the year.

18 months after signing up there were still deductions being made from the account. When I went into the Military location and told the person there that I was not told and did not intend for the contract to auto renew and wanted the membership terminated immediately. The desk representative said that she had taken care of it and there would be no further debits from the account. The account the debits were being made from was subsequently changed and the issue seemingly resolved even though I had paid for an additional 6 months of a gym membership we had only intended to pay for 12 months (and only used for 2).

Now I've recieved a collections notice for 362.70. When I received this collections notice I contacted the location I was advised over the phone that all of the contracts auto renew and that cancellation must be done in writing, neither of which was advised either during the initial sign up nor when we verbally cancelled at the gym. The representative also stated that it is their practice to just keep billing if the account on file doesn't work to a set amount and then sell the account to a collections agency.

I may have been naïve in thinking that when I asked questions prior to signing the contract they were being answered honestly, that I was signing a one year contract that would have to be renewed the following year. And again when I came into the gym to cancel the contract and was advised I would no longer be charged. But in a basic search of complaints regarding World Gym I found numerous references to similar billing issues.

Either this is an accepted business practice to train employees to unethically lie to potential members and then again to members who want to cancel their membership or an instance of employees making mistakes. But it is unethical to hold someone accountable for 360.00 sent to collections after already paying 220.00. There should be some company accountability for misrepresentation and lies. Based on the service I have recieved I have come to the conclusion that this is an accepted money making practice. It is disgusting and they should be ashamed.

Been a member since July 2010 I pay nearly £50 a month. The equipment is brilliant, the staff are fantastic, thats where it stops. The air conditioning has been playing up since I joined. They replaired it last year hoping to get them through the winter... it didnt. All of the systems now need replacing, that the two systems in the studio and the main one for the gym. Guess what.... 3 months later and still not repaired. OK they have replaced one of the units in the studio. However this now means its hot down one end of the studio and the air conditioner at the other end has little or not difference. Its about the only gym you can join for £50 a month without air con. One girl I was speaking to said it had been like it for 12 years!!!!

The gym now is unusable and only last night there were about 8 people in there... on a monday night!!! When its normally full with about 30 people in there.

I came out of the class I was in as I couldnt breathe after half an hour.

Nuffield are some what of a joke and we should be compensated for the inconvenience - yes fat chance.

If you are thinking of joining.... note the temperature.... the scum at the edges of the swimming pool and to be honest god knows how much bacteria is in the jacuuzi!

My advise yes it looks a fantastic gym, the reality is its a health and safety hazard!

New joiners BEWARE!!!!

The gym is in a basement and it is not very big. It is new and the staff keep it very clean. The class room is a bit small for the amount of people that join the several classes. The zumba class on Saturday is really good and I enjoyed it a lot, aerobics and body pump classes are also good.

I have been going here on and off for the last year and a half and I always keep on coming back for my fix. All the staff are lovely, as are the fellow excercisers - its just got a great vibe about it. They always are looking for new innovative classes and the timetable has a good mix of things at different times. If you want to dance like brittany, swing kettlebells like a russian or just jump up and down on mini tramps to some cool tunes this is the place for you.

I attended the Zumba classes at this Women's Fitness First. The classes were good and fun, although it was annoying that you had to come to the class 30 minutes before the class to guarantee a place at the Zumba class. They did not take any online or telephone bookings. The staff were a bit pushy in getting you to buy membership when the gym induction happened. Zumba teacher was great!

I am very pleased with the two vouchers I purchased and the experience at the gym. The small print says that you can use the vouchers for gym facilities but one of the recptionists told me a little rudely that this was not the case. she checked and came back and agreed that I was correct. The manager Charles is a true professional and a people person though and was thoroughly pleasant every time I saw him. Some of the equipment was out of order and the audio on a lot of the machines didnt work however, so I am unsure If I would pay a full membership unless I saw these faults were fixed first.

This is a tiny little health club that gets VERY crowded. The classes are over-subscribed and the creche is always full.
The membership consultant lied to us during our application. We signed up for a 12 month contract and repeatedly asked "Can we cancel this membership at ANY time?". The membership consultant repeated many times "YES, you can cancel at ANY time, as long as you give 3 months notice." This is NOT true. You can only cancel AFTER your first 12 months are up.
The contract conditions are not the main issue; I don't like being lied to.
AVOID this over-crowded nasty little club, they are just after your money.

The gym is well located between Blackfriars Bridge and Fleet Street. The staff were very upbeat, helpful and friendly. I was shown around the facilities straight away. The female changing rooms were lovely and very well equipped. The gym seemed to be very well equipped but my only gripe is that a lot of the cardio vascular equipment (which is all I used really) was a little dated and so the experience wasn't top notch(!). Everything else was spot on though so I'd recommend anyone to try it for themselves.

This is a review of the Afternoon Tea and Manicure & Martini but this option wasn't on the treatments list.

Lovely spa with a very decadent feel to it. We were immediately relaxed and the surroundings were very calming. We had wanted to book for a group of 4 and had trouble finding a time we could all go as the Spa couldn't fit us all in at once so we went 2 and 2. I can see why it was a problem as the Afternoon Tea set up would only fit about 8 people at any time in the Spa area. They must serve it elsewhere for the Hotel's general Afternoon Tea.

Tea was lovely, the sandwiches, scones and cakes were in abundance! Shamefully we couldn't finish all of the scones as there were 3 each! Really impressive spread and beautifully presented.

The manicure was good, we were the last 2 people in that day and it maybe felt a little rushed. The therapists didn't really offer any suggestions of what polish to choose or chat much at all. All polishes were OPI. Mine only lasted a few days unfortunately but it was well done.

After the manicure we were offered a choice of martini or champagne which was lovely to sip whilst our nails dried.

All in all we were only there about an hour, it's not really somewhere you would hang about, the tea and manicure is very much a process they have down to a fine art with about 25 mins for each and 10 minutes at the end for a drink.

Great space though and I would definitely go again- especially if another Wahanda offer came up as it was amazing value.

**** Caution if you have small children*****I loved this gym up until was working out doing a boot camp outside the gym with a trainer when my two year old son came running out the front door in the parking lot. He got out of the childcare area out that broken gate and past the front door staff. I took him inside and was holding him and no one even noticed he was gone. They were very apologetic however the they could only say they are very sorry. When I said to them this is like the worst thing that could happen there commit back was "no it wasn't he could have gotten hurt". So need less to say we cancelled our membership. It is a very nice gym, but childcare not very supervised and to much space for free running which can cause injury to little kids.

This gym is top-notch. (And I say that having visited many of London's best gyms including Virgin Active's Broadgate) The City gym is amazing. It has absolutely everything one could hope for: Power Plates, towels, shampoo/body wash and lotion/conditioner, steam room, sauna, hydrotherapy pool, and levels and levels of exercise equipment. (I should note that its' facilities are much more extensive than my synopsis, but these are my personal favorites). When joining, they give you a health check and explain to you what it all means (blood glucose levels, blood pressure, BMI, etc). It was great. The staff are nice and the gym is very, very clean. Some of the TV's on the treadmills and bikes don't always work, but for the most part the machines are always working and kept in good condition. I love this gym.

I go here once a week for trampoline classes as they hold drop in sessions for adults on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It is a really friendly centre with a real family feel about it. And I absolutely love the trampolines there. I’ve been to quite a few trampoline classes and normally you have a lot of standing about and not a lot of time actually bouncing but at Sobell they limit the number of places each session and each time I’ve been I’ve never had to share my trampoline with more than two people. Each session lasts an hour and half and costs six pounds which is really cheap considering how long you get on the trampoline. The tutor is really nice but most importantly lets you do your own thing (it’s quite hard to teach someone how to jump in the correct way: you just have to watch and practice) You also have the privilege of being in the same room as the climbing wall so there’s some good eye candy to ogle whilst waiting for your turn!
There are loads of other classes at the centre which I’m interested in trying out: reggae aerobics is definitely next on my list!

I have just recently started becoming a regular attendee at Frame - amd I am so glad I found them! Not only are Pip and Joan two of the most freindly, welcoming and helpful fitness instructors/owners I have met, but the studios are warm, funky and not at all intimidating.

I have tried lots of classes, but particular favourites are Dancersize with Shaun, Jane Fonda with Leila and Energise Aerobics with Diana (the hardest class I have ever taken!) I have just started the Vibe 4 -week bootcamp which is a great deal. In fact, they have lots of good offers to keep you interested!

The changing rooms are great (love the straighteners!) Overall, I love this place so much I am giving up my traditional gym membership and getting on board here!!

However, a lot of the equipment has not been replaced in some time and does not function properly (tread mills). The steam room is old and has not been refurbished in many years. For what you pay to use the facilities it is lacking in terms of offering a truly premium service.
