Visiting this place was quite an experience for me and my friend but it fitted in very well with the whole Budapest experience. For a start we visited in January and it was so cold i thought my eyeballs were freezing up. It was a delight to get into the natural hot springs at the Gellert. The building is beautiful and situated right on the Danube. The staff are not friendly but we found that normal in Budapest. When we got to the changing rooms we were handed a large white sheet by an even larger strong looking Hungarian lady and that set the tone for the hot spring bath which was full of large naked Hungarian ladies. Sara and i felt rather prudish in our swim suits. I was really impressed with the effect of the hot springs followed by a plunge in the cold pool. I had been feeling puffy due to the cold outside and the over heated hostel we were staying in, the puffiness vanished and i felt really refreshed and relaxed. Sara and i went for a dip in the famous pool which is pictured here and were immediately whistled out as we had no bathing caps on which we were not aware we needed. That was a disappointment as the pool really is very special. A unique experience.
