This is tricky, yet often happens in todays busy world. The best advice I can give from experience, is to take the first client, and have the check in desk inform the client behind her, that you will be running a bit late. Offer a complimentary service such as manicure, mini massage or tea and coffee, nibbles.
If the client that is running late, a repeat offender, you have to allow booking room time, to compensate for the bad habit.

If a client is later than 15 minutes to a half hour, they would need to reschedule, as this pushes the entire schedule back. And, it is not fair to other clients. Remember that your clients that follows this person, time is important to them. This person imposes upon them when they require that the entire schedule is shifted due to their being late.
I typically do not have this problem, but if I did, I would simply reschedule this person. Point to remember: Clients are paying for our time, our expertise and for the 'experience'. They expect us to be on time and they should do the same, understanding that our day is booked by appointment only.

Just do the service and have the desk notify the next client that there is a 20 minute gap and to please come in and make herself at home with some fresh coffee and a mini consult on her hair.

I agree with Michell, but if it happens more than twice make the clients boooking at teh end of teh day not during the day, this way it will not mess up your diary.

Sometimes theres a real reason the person is late if this is the case i try to work round them, although some times you have to put your foot down if it keeps happening, other clients (good time keepers) shouldnt have to wait in this case i dont treat the late client but rebook them. xxxxxx

as I work from home - if a client has not arrived 10 minutes past their time I always call them and discover if they are 'on their way' or have 'forgotten'. Dependent upon their reply, I will then decide whether to rebook them or allow them to arrive later.

Just very kindly inform the client that you are backed up on the time line. Offer to discount their service and always smile. A client will accept this if you are kind and honest with them.

i agree with you partially i dont believe that a discount is the answer to everything because people are going to start expecting discount for every little mishap!

i do not think that it is fair to take a client who is 30 minutes late because this makes the client after that person delayed 30 minutes
usually i just give themthe remaining time f their service when they come in and i explain that they are running late
I know as professionals we will deal with this a lot but time is money and i dont think its right for repeat offenders to get their full service unless i were able to fit them in

I too will take the following client if they are on time and let the late one know that I will be running late. My clients are all regulars so they tend to understand. If i am running behind and have a new client waiting, I will offer them a little add on as well..

Hello There,
Late clients can have a negative affect on your business as clients themselves are on a busy schedule.
If a client is late to my practice & I have a client booked in after them, I can not allow the treatment to run over; which means, I deliver the treatment in the remaining time allocated, at the full cost of the treatment.
If I don't have another booking, I can be more flexible.
This will deter people from being late & ensure you maintain a punctual & professional service for all.
I also have a disclaimer to this effect on my publicity material.
Hope this helps.x
