LACOTE was founded in 1986 after its founder Egidio Siena, expert in beauty treatments and great lover of the sea visited the port of Brest in Brittany. He was immediately struck by two things: the imposing red and white lighthouse that dominates the landscape and the incredible line-up of boats, similar to common fishing boats, full of seaweed. He soon learned about an ancient Breton legend that says that seaweed is the "divine food" of mermaids and gives them their irresistible charm which even enchanted Ulysses. He discovered that for many centuries – at least since 1600 - local fishermen had considered seaweed as very precious because of its many beneficial properties. He discovered that every year at the start of summer seaweed proliferated and thrived on the seabed and was collected by the “seaweed fishermen” taken ashore and dried in the sun and wind to maintain its precious plasma rich in mineral salts, oligoelements, proteins and vitamins intact and unaltered. Seaweed collected and processed in this way was then used as main ingredient for traditional recipes and treatments for the wellness, beauty and care of the body…
Scientific testing
Egidio Siena returned home anxious to personally test the benefits of the seaweed also from a scientific point of view. He delivered a jar containing a preparation made of that seaweed, marine clay and water to a research laboratory; a group of voluntary women tested the benefits of the preparation by applying it to legs, thighs and buttocks and massaging. The results were amazing and immediate: reduction in thigh circumference and of unpleasant cellulite; softer and more elastic skin with a markedly healthier appearance… This was the starting point of the inimitable "GUAM seaweed mud".
The foundation of the Company
Body care, beauty and wellness became a consolidated theme of the mid Eighties. Just a few months after his journey, having perfected on a small scale the formula of the "GUAM seaweed mud", Egidio Siena founded the company SCHOTE SRL to distribute the product. The product was soon appreciated by an increasing number of women who literally tried it “on their skin” and personally saw the results; the word soon spread.
