Question: I have some annoying blackheads on my nose. What facial can help get rid of them?

I've almost always had little blackheads on my nose and recently asked a makeup artist what's best to cover/remove them. She suggested a facial so that's what I'm doing! Any advice on what type of facial will help or what exactly to ask the therapist for etc would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

First things first! Skincare and technique is vital.
Use a good cleanser at least once daily. I prefer not to use face washes with Sodium Lauryl Sulphate as they are too harsh. Massage cleanser in for at least a minute working all ove the face and especially where the blackheads are. Then using a CLEAN facecloth wrung out in warm water hold that over the face then massage the cloth over the face. Rinse and repeat 2 or 3 times. This removes all the cleanser, make up , and dead skin debris. Pores can't clog up then and existing blackhead will be encouraged to pop out.
Whilst skin is warm - wrap your fingers in tissue and gently squeeze down beside the blackheads to pop them out.

Treatment wise - several options - microdermabrasion facials will exfoliate and "suck" out some blackheads. A good therapist will be able to remove any other stubborn ones - this is called extraction.

Gentle gel peels based on Salycilic acid or fruit enzyme should be sufficient to assist with the blackheads and have virtually no down time. All peels require a period of at least 2 weeks preparation to ensure an even result.

Skincare range to recommend would be Image Clear Cell or Ageless Total Cleanser or Medik8 Cream Cleanser - these all contain various AHA's to exfoliate the skin.

Hope that helps?

I suggest a deep cleansing facial that includes extractions, where needed. The extracting procedure should lift and remove the blackheads immediately. However, sometimes the blackheads and/or white heads may be impacted. In this case, home usuage of products which contain the right combination of salicylic acid can unclog pores. Consistant usuage should help to eliminate and prevent this problem in the future.

Almost everyone has blackhead on T-Zone areas that is forehead,nose and chin. Deep pore cleaning Facial will help. I always think Facial is good idea during the summer months because we do spend more time outdoor. Specially if you have oily skin, try Facial twice during summer months, 1st one end of May and one mid July. Other wise get Facial when season change,so that you have your skin for the next season.
Hope this will be helpful,

One of the best ways is either black head extraction which a therapist can do for you. Also you could have a facial with an exfoliation, but you could also help out with this at home, by making an exfoliator yourself, get some rock salt and use a little olive oil mix together and scrub the area with the black heads, to help remove them. Remmeber to also remove all make-up and grime from your skin with a good make-up remover before bed this helps prevent further balck head build up, and moisturise the skin to lock in the good oils.

Your therapist will do a skin analysis to prescribe the ideal facial for you, black head extraction will be done then it's up to you to maintain a good skin cleanse routine every morning and evening. If you live in Milton Keynes feel free to come and visit me for a consultation.

Regular facials are definitely ideal. Particularly a deep cleansing one with steam and extractions, followed by a good massage. Not only will this open up and unclog your pores and deep cleanse your skin but the treatment also involves gently squeezing out the blackheads. The massage and steaming will help remove toxins and waste and improve blood circulation bringing fresh oxygen and nutrients to your skin.

I use a professional skin care brand called "Skin Truth" on my clients. Their Equalising range created particularly for combination to oily skin consists of active ingredients called Bearberry and Neroli. These help to remove excess oil which create blackheads and spots and moisturises the skin. I travel out to my clients all over London. If you would like a full deep cleansing and relaxation facial I happy to travel out to you and provide you with this service. I will carry out a skin analysis and a consultation with you before the treatment and explain the procedure and the products I will be using on your skin. We can then discuss long-term treatment plan to eliminate the problem and some home care routine.

Definitely facial with extraction is the answer to your question.
Also, cleansing and removing makeup daily will improve your skin and exfoliate at least once a week with a mild scrub.

Having regualr facials will help; make sure the facial you have includes steam treatment as this makes it easier for the therapist to remove the blackheads.But by you using a daily micro exfoliant this will help remove them as well, this will take time as all blackheads are dead skin cells have get caught in the pores where they get trapped and look unsightly.
If neither of these work you could always try having a electrical facial, i would recommed having a galvanic decrustation facial this is an electrical facial and is a deep cleansing treatment which goes gets much deeper than normal surface cleansing, and without any harsh skin peels.
A decrustation gel is applied to the skin, then a low current which runs through a electrode pushes the gel into the pores decrustation gel is an antibactrial gel. There is another galvanic faciall called Iontophoresis this is where gels with added nutrients such as collagen, eleastin ect are pushed into te pores the same way as with decustration but by using mini rollers.
Both of these would benifit you as one deep cleans the other rehydrates and norishes the skin.

I hope this is of help.

Hello Lil Miss,

How are you & sorry for the delay in posting this response, however as they say, better late than never!

As you indicated your nose is affected by blackheads, this would suggest to me you’re a combination skin type, where the T-Zone areas of the face, generally the chin, nose, & forehead are the parts affected by a more oily nature.

Condition: Blackheads medical name: Comedones.
Cause: Overactive sebaceous glands produce a large amount of sebum & results in an oily/combination skin type.
Appearance: Enlarged pores in the T-Zone, small to medium pores in the cheek area.

==============================================

Professional Treatments
If you are affected by a combination skin type, a professional treatment which targets this will help in reducing this presenting condition & will also aid you in product knowledge & homecare which should be advised by the professional delivering your treatment.

Nyame Dua works with Repechage which is based on seaweed extracts & has treatments for most presenting skin conditions.

I’d recommend the Hydra Refine Pore Perfecting Facial:
Repechage Hydra Refine Pore Perfecting Facial £35 (55 min)
Controls oil, rids skin of impurities & helps eliminate further breakouts. Seaweed, lemongrass & cucumber leave the skin feeling refreshed, renewed & ultra clean.

The above recommended facial can be delivered weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on your budget.

==============================================

Home Care
Try to ensure you cleanse tone & moisturise twice a day, especially as it is common for combination skin types to be coarse & thick in the oily areas, but also present dry areas where the skin is thinner.

Delivering homecare treatments on yourself will help maintain the affects of your professional treatment & reduce the appearance of combination skin in between professional treatments.

Ensure you use products specifically for combination skin types as they posses formulations for both oily & dry skin - using a product just for dry skin will help any presenting dry areas, however it will make your oily areas more oily & vice versa.

Cleansing & toning will help clean the skin of the daily build up of make up, dirt & bacteria & the toner will help get the skin squeaky clean with some toners having astringent properties which firm the skin. Toners also increase circulation to the skin, improved skin tone, & reduce the visibility of lines and wrinkles.

A gel based cleanser will help to remove the excess oil from the skin & if your skin is excessively oily, use a product containing an astringent.

I’d also suggest using Rose Water as you’re over the counter, home care toner. Rose Water naturally tones & firms the skin as well as hydrating it. It also aids the cleaning & tightening of the skins pores & has antiseptic & antibacterial properties & so can treat various skin problems.

Research suggests the antibacterial properties of Rose Water as a toner helps in preventing acne, wrinkles. It also cures sunburn & stressed skin.

You should also try to ensure you exfoliate weekly. This will lift the top layer of dead skin cells from the skin, & unblock some of your pores which appear as blackheads.

For the dryer areas of your face, you may need to exfoliate only once or twice a week as we don’t want to over sensitise these areas. You could perform exfoliation over your T-Zone area only, 2/3 times a week.

St Ives has a good range of over the counter exfoliators.
I’d recommend the St Ives Radiance Cream Cleanser for combination skin types for the non T-Zone areas 1/2 times week & the Blemish Fighting range which is for oily/acne prone skin types for your T-Zone 2/3 times a week.

Using an oil free moisturiser twice a day helps the skin to maintain a young, supple appearance by aiding water retention & hydrating the skin by replacing lost moisture which may have been lost in the cleansing & toning processes, or due to environmental factors such as cold wind, harsh sun rays, pollutants etc…

==============================================

Product Awareness

Some ingredients to look out for when choosing products to balance combination skin types are:

- Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), vitamin A and retinols. AHAs are amazing substances which promote slowly removing dead cells from the skin.

- Salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide are wonderful tools for beating back breakouts. To add to it, they don't dry the skin too much.

- AHAs and retinols can increase the sensitivity of your skin to sunlight. Therefore, always use a sunscreen before going out in sun.

==============================================

Diet

Try to eat a balanced diet & ensure you’re drinking plenty of water, daily. This will not only aid control of your condition, but will also help reduce any scarring.

One of the best skin care treatments which is easily available to everyone & has no side affects but benefits the skin by giving it a healthy glow is water!

The recommended daily amount is 2litres.

Most of us spend our days in a state of mild dehydration as we don’t consume as much fluids as we should. Water comprises approximately 60% of your body & the skin is intricately tied to the overall health of your body. When your body is properly hydrated, you'll look better & feel better.

Adequate water rewards us with...
• Enhanced health
• Increased energy
• Bright, clear eyes
• A radiant complexion
• Reduced bloating & puffiness

Water works by:
• Carrying nutrients to every cell in your body
• Flushing out toxins
• Improving circulation & blood flow
• Lubricating our joints.

Lil Miss,

I forgot to answer your question fully in my crazy rant, lol...

When asking for a facial to deal with blackheads, ensure the facial includes a facial scrub/exfoliation, steam & extraction.

- Facial scrub/exfoliation to unblock the pores & remove the top dead layer of skin;
- Steam treatment to open the pores in preparation of extraction;
- Extraction is a technique used by therapists to extract black/white heads & can be performed with a comedone/milia extractor or a by the therapists finger wrapped in facial tissue.
Extraction can only be performed after a steam treatment.
