I did rent as well for a short time and I would have to say yes. My situation was different than yours but I know for a fact that it can effect your chances for potential clients.

I think you really need to look at where you are and where you want to be . Your environment the most important part for your business . Start looking for a healthier place to work in that you can afford. Look for a location and presents that you would want to come to as well as a client .Education is a very important roll in what the salon offers . I think if you set your standard higher your clients will enjoy your location. Good Luck with your business and future .

Absolutely. Atmosphere is everything. Clients want to feel safe and comfortable where ever they go. If there is not a pleasant atmosphere; they may and can go else where till they find their comfort zone with a stylist and salon atmosphere. Have you had clients tell you what they do not like? have you heard of any dislikes? or are you going off of your lack of clientle? Find out what the core issue is here; only can build up and change atmosphere; do promotions; and make yourself present to the community.

Location is everything! If your clients are complaining why aren't you? Look around your area for a salon you really dig that you think would be conducive to your business. Think like a client, Where would you like to get your hair done at? A professional, sanitary setting is important if you want to grow your business and it is YOUR business when you rent, check out the salon/suites type location if they exist in your area.

Can you work out of your home? Perhaps you have a nice room or space you can decorate to be relaxing, clean, and private to do your clients in. Offer incentives for the clients you have to introduce their friends to your salon. IE: 10.00 off a service to each person. It sounds like a lot but it makes for happy clients and more money for you in the long haul.

I THINK WORKING FROM YOUR HOME IS A GOOD AND A BAD IDEA IF I HAD TONS OF CLIENTS THEN MAYBE I WOULD EXCLUSIVELY INVITE A FEW TO MY HOME!!!!!!!! BUT ON THE OTHER SIDE ITS KIND OF LIKE AN INVASION OF PRIVACY TO A CERTAIN DEGREE...JUST MY OPINION

Atmosphere is always important. Also if it is unsanitary the salon and you could get hit with a fine if the state board should come in to inspect. I don't know how it is in Georgia but here in California they have strict laws.
$400.00 a month rental that is great I think that I want to move to Georgia. I am paying $760. for my station in Ca.
Look around at other salons around the same area. If you are going to move to another do not move very far so your clients will follow you. Good luck to you.

yes, your environment can affect your clientele base, if you can look for some other place that is more like where you really desire to work.that would be great, i was in a situation like that at my former place of work until i moved,i saw great difference and im happy now.
All the best!!

Why not find a salon that pays commission, in stead of renting. Unless you have a huge following you're gonna have a hard time making what you need to thrive in the business.

IF I WERE YOU I WOULD MOVE TO A NICE SALON AND RENT A CHAIR THEIR BECAUSE THE 15 CLIENTS THAT YOU DO HAVE ... YOU WANT TO KEEP.. THINK ABOUT WHEN YOU GO TO A SALON .. YOU WANT TO BE COMFORTABLE AND MOST IMPORTANTLY YOU WANT SANITATION TO BE UP TO PAR
AND LASTLY YOU WHATTO GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR SO IF I WERE IN YOUR SITUATION I WOULD DEF MOVE TO ANOTHER LOCATION WHERE THEIR IS A BETTER TRAFFIC AREA OF CLIENTELE
FOR EXAMPLE IF THE PLACE HAS A NAIL TECH AND THEIR CLIENT DECIDES THEY WOULD LIKE TO GET THEIR HAIR DONE AT THE LAST MINUTE YOU ARE THEIR OPEN AND AVAILABLE TO GAINA POTENTIALLY NEW CLIENT
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes location is everything! I've been at the same place for 8 years and they changed it so less women walk by with the remodel and now there is less traffic.

GET OUT!!!! You should not be taking home less than what you spend on your booth. Presentation & Location are everything. Think about if you were the client, would you want to get your hair done somewhere dirty & out of the way ?

Yes, both of those do contribute to gaining clients. You have three choices talk to the owners about the cleanliness of the salon. Or you could make the extra effort to clean and sweep the salon, or you could look for another salon that's cleaner and in a better location. If it were up to me, if I really liked everyone I worked with which it seems like you may, I'd try to make an effort to get everyone to clean up after themselves.
It seems like your not direct about confrontation so I would suggest cleaning between clients wash everyone's mirrors not just your own. Sweep up after them always with a smile. They will get the hint after about a week. Probably sooner! (nobody like it when someone else cleans up after them at work)
Its amazing how well this works.

Yes! You really are going to have to find a new shop. You can't and shouldn't have to clean up after other stylists. Also, word of mouth, good or bad travels very quickly. If people start hearing that the shop is unclean or uncomfortable they won't even give it and you a try. Try to find a shop that has the same high standards that you do. It will also show your current clients that you care about them and listen to them. Good luck to you!

As a stylist you have to ensure that when your client comes to your location they feel the calm in the mist of their everyday life. The location that I am in I feel so blessed when I walk through the door because I know the potiential that is there and the reaction of clients when they see what it is about. I f you are at a location where no one around you cares why continue to lower your value by staying. Take a stand for your future, remember you are a big as those around you. Move quick

in my opinion, the environment is only 75% of the problem. booth rent is hard when you're trying to build clientele. you should maybe try out a high traffic salon that pays commission befriend those clients and build from there.
