HI there,
Dr Loong's comment is correct - it is essential to obtain a proper and thorough history from the patient and also to pinpoint the location of the headaches and/or migraines.
As you know, Botulinum has now been approved by the MHRA and has been licensed for migraine treatment since 2010.
At my clinic I treat people on a weekly basis for migraines and severe tension headaches. It is important that you try all the medically available options first though, as Botox is not the best treatment for everyone.
Our success rate is determined by the reduction in migraine frequency and/or intensity that our patients experience. In our clinic practice we have achieved a very high success rate of over 85% - all patients having achieved between 70% and 90% reduction in frequency and/or intensity.
Please do visit our website for more details or send us an email.

Yes, it can. It can also stop sweating and eventually smooth out the wrinkles where they're not visible.

Yes it is true, as a long time migraine suffer I was skeptical at first. But after starting Botox treatments I found a marked reduction in the frequency and severity of my migraines. So a year and three treatments later not only do I look 10yrs younger than my 45 but I feel better
and am my own advertising tool for my clientele. Plus my Medical Director confirmed the science behind it.

Yes! there are certain areas near the forehead adjacent to the orbit that are affected during a migraine that can be alleviated by botox.

Luke -- as you are a practicing cosmetic surgeon, can you tell me if there there are some kinds of migrane sufferers for whom Botox would NOT be appropriate for?

Dear Melissa Jane
I have just received this question today
As a cosmetic Doctor I have this question asked to me quite a lot and Yes, it has been used for that indication. Tension headaches are typically caused by overactive forehead/frown muscles and so by relaxing it, it will help alleviate the symptoms.
With regards to migraines, it really depends upon the cause of the migraine and the signs/symptoms you are experiencing. If you are experiencing pain in the forehead area, then it may help. However, if it is associated with pain behind the eyes, flashing lights or symptoms of nausea, botox may not be very helpful.
Your practitioner of choice should run through a proper medical history with you to decide if botox is the best route to take if other conventional methods have failed.
If you have any further questions then please contact me on 0845 601 6441 ( Ethos Medical) and i will talk you through anything further
