Since you are in Lancaster, CA, I wouldn't be able to tell you from experience. I am in Orange County, far from the desert. The school I went to is California College of Physical Arts in Huntington Beach, CA.
Charter College in Antelope Valley offers a massage therapy program.

It depends on the state you are in. I would chose a school vs. a massage program because you tend to get more qualified instructors and more specialized attention. I also know this because I have talked with hundreds of other therapists who they themselves claim they did not get a good massage education in those technical schools/massage programs. Chose a program that has alot of hours devoted to Neuromuscular Therapy and clinically based therapies. To be hired in the industry, you must have NMT under your belt. - that includes spa jobs. Also, to get additional certifications after you graduate is key to your success.
In looking at your question, are you asking for advice in additional massage training after you have already graduated from one massage school ? If that is the case, I would say, just get additional certifications in what ever techniques you are seeking. I dont think its worth it to go another massage school, when you make decide on another career change in 10 years. Always have a plan B. I'm currently planning graduate school and my next career.

Hi Cecily,
You should try Integrated Body Dynamics, Robert Donkers is the main tutor and he is such an inspiration. He has deep knowledge and his classes are very interactive, the price is quite fair as well.
Here is the link:

I'm not sure where you are located but Wichita KS has some good schools. I will not endorse one over the other but a few good ones are: butler community college, total health works, body and soul massage school, ks school of Chinese medicine. I would recommend you do your research to pick the one best for you. Hope this helps. Jacki

Hi Cecily, The program at Greenville Tech was surprisingly good. (And I'm very picky.) It was geographically convenient for me. Make sure you interview therapists who have gone to any school you have in mind before you commit. With most massage schools, you really only have time for so much. When you finish, you should have, at least, a good knowledge of anatomy, as well as basic technique, centered around Swedish and Neuromuscular. Usually there is a brief exposure to other modalities (EG: 2 days of Reiki, or something to that effect.) But after you finish, the real learning begins-- you will learn a lot just by doing -- and find out what resonates with you. You can learn from other therapists by trading, and from videos as well. Continuing education, which is required anyway-- can help you specialize--I take a lot of classes at a school in Asheville (http://www.centerformassage.com). I highly recommend their classes. And the school itself has a great vibe--I get the impression it would be a nice place to go to massage school. A very beautiful place, as well, if you care to relocate.

NHI (NATIONAL HOLISTIC INSTITUTE).It is the first nationally accredited school for massage therapy only(no other subjects like dental assisting, etc). After doing research and taking many tours of campuses i found that this school was the best and offered the most for my money. They've got locations all throughout cali (i went to the sf and emeryville campus).NHI has such a diverse group, the staff is amazing, and whether you graduated from NHI in the LA area or Bay Area we are all one big family. They provide such a warm, welcoming environment and for many of my fellow graduates NHI was an outlet to everyday stresses. We looked forward to going to class.Even after having graduated we still meet up and do massage events with each other, visit the campus together or just hang out.And its safe to say that we all miss class. Not to mention their professional rep is outstanding. You can go to any high end place that offers massage and mention NHI and automatically you've got their interest.check out the website: http://www.nhi.edu
Hopefully you'll like what you see.Good luck!

UCMT (Utah College of Massage Therapy) Famiy of schools, has 7 Campuses, 2 in Utah, 2 in Colorado, 1 in Nevada, 1 in Arizona...... Check it out at http://www.ucmt.com. I attended this school and after doing some thourough checks on Massage therapy schools, this amazing program not only teaches in a structured format ie: taking classes in order, Anatomy and Physiology 1 then 2 then 3. It also provides in depth Body Mechanics, how to hold your body and position so that this can be a Long Term carreer. Upon graduating you are versed in over 12 different types of treatments. and be able to perform an hour or more of each. They are a bit more strict in their grading but it is so worth it in the end. Clinic is 115.5 hours in which after a period of time you work one 7 hour weekend shift where you are required to work on at least 4 clients coming to the school for massage. This not only builds up your stamina for the working world. As well as building up the strength and routine way a student uses their "tools" hand, finger, wrist, forearm, elbow etc. You leave that school with more confidence and knowledge than you will at any other Massage trade school.

If you want to be a CMT in California that will take 500 hours so I would recommend a program over 500 hours.

Boulder College of Massage Therapy in Boulder, CO is an absolutely amazing school! I learned so much more than massage there, I learned about myself, the emotional and business side of massage therapy, and the best thing of all Anatomiken! Anatomiken is an anatomy class where you learn where the muscles are by building the muscles out of clay and put them on the proper area of the maniken. It was difficult, but so worth the effort. I also made some amazing friends from that school. Definitely worth checking out! Good luck!

Well, I went to a school in Hamilton NJ called Harris school of Business. A loot of people from PA went there. There is also the National massage therapy school in Phili. I forget the street or the number but It's in like a strip mall. That school is 600 hours. The one I went to is 900 hours but you learn more when you get out. They're the only 900 hour program in the NJ and PA area so far

If you are in the Metro Detroit area I suggest Irene's Myomassology Institute in Southfield. It is an excellent school with a wide variety of electives to choose from. I still take classes there and I am beginning an Apprentice Program in May.

Same as massagebymimi I'm in Orange County as well. The only thing I can recommend is to research what schools close to you teach the modalities that you are looking for and go explore those schools and ask to sit in on some classes in order to find out which one best suits you.

I went to the Utah College of Massage Therapy. Their program was superior to the other colleges I was looking at, they offered a master body worker program in addition to the professional program and now they expanded to offer an esthetic program as well. I was extremely happy that I chose to relocate to Salt lake city for school.

I can't recommend a specific school; however, since graduating in 2004, I do have a general guidance. Decide if you want to study massage therapy or so-called "body work". If it's massage therapy you are interested in choose a school that doesn't teach magic. If you want bodywork choose a school that teaches reiki, cranio-sacral, zero balancing, etc.
