Lomi Lomi has always been my preferred modality when on the receiving end of a great massage. It is a deeply working and a very opening “Body Prayer” that combine traditional Polynesian energy work and bodywork. The nature of the style allows for multiple practioners to work simultaneously on a client during a session. The most commonly known lineage comes from the Hawaiian Kupuna’s and continues to gain popularity as a massage modality in the United States as well as around the world.

Lomi Lomi practitioners primarily use the palms, forearms, and elbows in their massage sessions. Other Lomi-esk techniques include rigorous range-of-motion techniques in the shoulders and hips, the implementation of hot stones or hot stick methods, and a deeply calming “breathing” during an appointment. For patrons who feel overly self-conscious about their bodies and being touched, multiple practioners can work on a client in harmony, the experience compels the client to stop in persisting to monitor where they are being touched and just relax and enjoy.

A Lomi Lomi session has been the only time I have touched my elbow to my nose, had my body twisted like a pretzel, and been pounded by waves upon waves of deep forearm pressure until I felt like the ocean had milled me into the nothingness of a mound of beach sand and wanting it never to stop.

If I could get away with it I would start each day with a Kata Massage and end each with Hot Stone Therapy. The first is an energetic massage created by the Chinese and when done properly is better than any energy drink on the planet!

Hot Stone Therapy is simply my favorite way to unwind. I LOVE heat modalities and stones is just about my favorite way to go. If you find the right therapist who is capable of using two hands with stones I promise you'll never let them go!
