What should one always expect from a facial? How often should one get a facial? And how do you continue to exfoliate facial skin at home in between appointments? Meaning, what products are the best? I hear scrubs can be too rough...

I suggest once a month facial treatments to most of my clients, unless they are dealing with a disorder that we are trying to clear up then I may have them come in bi weekly. What should you always expect from a facial, good customer service and a knowledgeable practitioner. Did they take your history down, did you sign a consent form, did you discuss what treatment would best suit your skin at that time. Also I do not believe that you should be charged for all the little extras. I offer my clients a foot soak with brown sugar scrub, they get a hand and foot massage. I do minor extractions and brow shaping at no charge. In between appointments a good but simple skin care routine works best. I use and sell Derma e organic skin care, amazing line at a very reasonable price. They have a great microdermabrasion scrub that can be used once a week or their fruit enzyme scrub that is gentle enough to use every day. Then you want a gentle toner to reset the ph balance of your skin and a good moisturizer. I hope this has helped answer your question.

Well every facial is different, but there are some things in common. When going to see an esthetician, a skin analysis is the 1st step, after paperwork is filled out to get some health and allergy information, as well as assess what you are doing at home, what problems you may have with your skin and what you expect from the treatment. Then one would examine your skin and see what's going on. How often you should get a facial really depends on what your skin type and problem may be. Usually once a month is good, but acne may require once a week or so, just depends. At home skin care is the most important part of skin health. At home exfoliation can be good, but it depends on what you get done. For example, if you go in for a microdermabrasion treatment of a peel, do not exfoliate at home. Those are both powerful exfoliation treatments and you could stress out your skin if you over exfoliate after that. As for choosing a scrub, some can be too rough. It's usually better to choose something with smoother exfoliating beads than anything with a nut shell particle. Most people can use a mild exfoliant once or twice a week, less if you are sensitive. The question, what products are best? You can ask 10 people and get 10 different answers. I'm a big fan of Aveda and PCA. Aveda has a nice mild chemical exfoliant that goes on like a toner, not rough at all, and smells really good. Pca has a nice gentle exfoliant with round plastic beads that gives a good scrub without overly damaging the skin.

In my opinion, consultation and skin analysis carried out before a facial is essential so that the therapist can meet the clients skin care needs and cater to any concers he/she may have. I recommend monthly facials and a skincare regime to be continued at home. Products and directions of how to use them would be recommended by the therapist. Some facial scrubs can be too rough or not appropriate for the face, i would recommend a consulatation from a professional beauty therapist so that the correct recommendation can be made to suit your skin type and any conditions that may present. I dont believe in any particular products being "the best" as everyone is different and while one product may work for one person, it might not be right for another.

I always recommend you get a facial at least once a month and to continue with your skin care routine at home, exfoliating once a week. You want to find a nice soft exfoliator, anything to harsh isn't good for the skin and you don't want to do it too much.
There are so many products out there it is hard to find the right one for you. Maybe go into a big store with plenty of counters to give you advice and test out the products. Or go to your local Salons.
Facials are very relaxing and great for the skin to revitalise and the therapist should work with the best products that suit your skin type.

Usually, the facialist, who does, your service, will give you a full perscription, of what to do.

You so treat yourself to a facial 1 per month and yes it good to exfoliate and use a mask at home . Where every you get your facials from they sell the products they used in your facial for retail. A good facial is when the therapist gives you a consulation and ask what you want from this treatment & then tell you whats going to happen and what sort of results that will give to your skin & then makes you comfortable and relax as possiable.

The purpose of the facial would determine what you should expect as an end result, so that's a pretty complicated answer. You definitely want to pick a salon/spa technician that will take her time with the process and is truly out to handle your skin care concerns rather than the salesperson/unliscensed cosmetic girl out to make her sales goal.

As for the exoliant, you want to pick one that isn't overly grainy (I love the texture of Face Polish by Laura Mercier) . The exfoliant bits shouldn't be too big (like St. Eve's), and the ingredients should more on the natural side like in Muscadine Facial Scrub from Purium Health Products (my absolute favorite). For normal to Dry skin types you can use the Sugar Face Polish by Fresh which can also be paired as a mask...Great product. However, if you have acne (and some sensitive skin types) try using a non-abrasive exfoliant like Deep Purity Smoothing Gel by Awake.

Hope this helps...
