There are so many ways to market your business. I can tell you personally what has worked the best for me. There are two things I use the most to market. First would be to always be prepared. I have 3 different business card designs that I use, one for women one for men and one for brides, I always have them on me to hand out at any given time. Always talk about what you do. I lke to start a convo anytime simply by telling someone you like their hair. You know with women especially, we aren't to keen on complimenting ourselves, so we do one of two things when someone says thay like our hair. We tell them who does our hair, or the most common... we tell you what we don't like about it. That's when you step in. Tell them they should stop by and see you for a free consultation and you could get them satisfied with their hair. With brides you know thry are always quick to want to talk about being newly engaged or wedding coming up, ask if they have sat down with a stylist for a consultation yet, and that it is always good to have two practice runs for an updo before the wedding. I let my brides know that the practice runs are half price from the big day, or if she can get all her girls to book with me hers will be free on her wedding day. It works like a charm. Second would be my referral program. On the bottom of my business cards it says 'ask about my referral program!' What I do is give clients incentive to spread the word. Evertone they send in gets 5 dollars off their first visit and the one referring has two options, they can get 10 dollars off a service after 3 referrals or 20 off after 5. I have added this up and it is well worth giving this as a deal, it's the only special deal I do. I have been licensed sing August 2008 and I have a 80% full book every week, and 98% are referral, I rarely have a walk in client that was just stopping by, and if they do come in, I always ask them to sit and talk for a minute or two and after a short pre-consultaion they will book an appointment with me. I am sometimes booked up to a week in advance and also already have 5 weddings this year that were booked last year. A referral is the best advertisement so give them incentive to advertise! First look at what other people offer , try to specialise your treatments. Have plenty of deals lined up throughout the year. Word of mouth give great treatments, always look good yourself ,be seen let people know what you can offer. Give clients more than there money worth,special offers 2 for the price of one, bring a friend for half price special rates for block bookings. Free taster sessions ,

Try going to, where, YOUR target market is. Who are your clients? When you answer this, for yourself, you, will be passing out cards, and making your connections.

You can also put an add in your local news flyer. Its fairly cheap to do. You can also give a % off of a service is they mention the add. Also facebook and twitter are great networking tools! If you have the money you can hire a networking company to get you started on the right path!

If you were to speak to regional salepeople they would tell you to be effective you need to have handed out atleast 200 business cards a week. Regardless of other marketing the face to face networking involved in handing that simple little bit of paper to someone can make your clientele. If you are willing to put in an intense month at the PC, Social networking websites like this one, Facebook, Twitter, Myspace activity can create a larger market to draw from. When marketing always aim for a larger geographical area than you currently advertise to. Guerrilla marketing technigues can be found all over the Web, just browse for a few that resonate with your personality and then act on them.
