No, it is not bad for your skin to wear make up every day, and can even be beneficial, providing a barrier between your skin and the environment, pollution and harmful rays.

The only time it is not good to wear make up is in extreme heat and humidity as make-up will not look good for long. It will look messy and badly applied very quickly because of evaporation and moisture in the air.

Pores often look larger in the heat, and make-up settling in the pores is not a good look.
Luckily, skin normally looks more even toned in a hot sunny climate so the reasons for wearing make-up are often reduced, but it is vital that a high sun screen is used.
The sun’s rays cause more damage and are more aging than anything else and the skin MUST be protected.

Hello,
My feeling is, no. I think makeup acts as a great skin protector, rather than having your face exposed to the elements (sun, wind, pollution). Makeup has come along way. There are many nutrient and vitamin enriched products on the market. I find that people who reserve makeup for a special occasion only, and are not used to wearing it are somewhat sensitive to it, and are likely to have an allergic reaction, than someone who wears a little everyday. I think there are so many helpful products available, that are beneficial to the skin (Tinted spf moisturizer, etc). I do feel that not removing your makeup each night, and sleeping with it on, is harmful to the skin, and could cause premature wrinkling and irritate your eyes.

Hi Judy! Here's the thing...makeup that is worn on a regular basis is not bad...wearing it actually helps protect your skin from enviromental damage as the other answer states....But if you are home and wont be exposed to sun, wind, etc. for long periods of time..then let your skin BREATH! Give yourself a facial..put on an SPF cream and go about your day..this is important always..in your cream, or makeup, an SPF. Take care!

Yes, most makeup / cosmetics are terribly harsh on your skin and are carcinogetics.

You are not protected by the government from exposure to fragrance chemicals in products. There is minimal government regulation and monitoring of their safety, despite the widespread exposure of fragrance chemicals in thousands of products.

95% of the chemicals in fragrances are synthetic compounds derived from petroleum.

A variety of fragrance-free products are available from natural food stores. Read the product labels carefully. Some misleading advertising words: "natural", "floral", "hypoallergenic", "natural scent" make you think the product is safe when it may not be safe.

Some "unscented" and "fragrance-free" products can contain masking fragrances to cover up the smell of other ingredients.

Your skin, your body's largest organ, absorbs fragrance chemicals by direct application, by contact with fragranced items, and by exposure to air containing fragraces.

Fragrance chemicals are in fabric softners, laundry detergents, perfumes, personal care products, air fresheners and many other products contribute to health and environmental problems.

Here are some really nice, "clean" beauty products. You can check them out if you'd like.

In short, no. Taking care to use quality cosmetics (look for makeup with skin friendly ingredients), having a well rounded skin care routine (especially removing all traces of makeup at the end of the day!), using sun protection and "listening" to your skin are most important. Your skin will tell you if it doesn't like something and keeping it well cared for and nourished should be your focus. With that said, it is not a bad idea to give your skin a break from time to time but feel free to makeup with confidence everyday!

Hi Judy

Its not wearing the make-up thats bad for your skin, its not getting it off proparly! if you are using a decent cleanser at the end of the day and removing it proparly, there will be no harm done to your skin at all.

Sleeping in your make-up is a BIG no no! as this is the prime time for your skin to be repairing itself from damage throughout the day (e.g environmental factors such as sun exposure and wind) you really dont want your make-up to be interefering with this process. and as you know, we produce sweat and sebum in our sleep- so if we had make-up on through this time it would clog our pores and contribute towards spots.

Hope this helps

Absolutly not its actually very good for your skin. Makeup is a barrier against pollution and toxins in our environment. Cleansing and preparing your skin in the morning and taking off your makeup at night is what you need to focus on. Now there are different levels of cosmetics and foundation though. I use a liquid Mineral foundation on most of my clients and because its a mineral even if you forget to take it off at night on the rare occasion it wont hurt your skin. Wearing sunblock is the absolute most important thing you can do for your skin no matter what. You need to exfoliate at least once per week to get rid of the dead skin that could accumulate and cause breakouts.

It depends on the type of makeup and how sensitive your skin is. Most of the time it is fine to wear makeup everyday; as long as you take care of your skin when you are not.

I believe that some makeup can be harmfull to your skin. However some may not. As long as you don't overuse it, and also before you buy makeup check the label. If it says, "noncomedegenic" or "nonacnegenic", it is alright to apply some. Although not occasionally. Just make sure to clear your face of all makeup before bed, properly.
