Hi,
Its a myth that shaving makes hair grow back thicker, darker or faster. The difference between shaving and waxing, shaving creates a blunt edge to the hairs shaft, at the surface of the skin. Waxing removes it from beneath the surface at the bulb of the hair. Some women prefer waxing to shaving, since there is a longer period of time, between procedure, versus shaving that has to be done on a more frequent interval, often daily. Waxing can not change the DNA of your hair. This already detemines the rate of hair growth, color and texture.

Hello, Shaving will not make hair grow back thicker and coarser. Because the blade slices the hair, it just makes it appear so. However, be careful as shaving can also catch the finer, fairer hairs, which probably do not bother you?

Hi,
Michelle has it spot on,
It is not true that hair grows back thicker and coarser when you shave.
When shaving, you are simply TRIMMING the ends of your hairs instead of pulling them out by the root (as with waxing)
As you hair is pulled out by the root in a waxing treatment, it is forcing the whole new hair growth cycle to start again and it also weakens the hairs because of this, which is why hairs feel much softer and thinner after long term waxing.

I believe that it will grow back thicker with shaving, using the razor only shaves the surface and waxing pulls the roots and over time with waxing it breaks the roots down and hair grows back thinner.

I am afraid it is true that the hair will grow back thicker and coarser if you shave. This is because you are cutting the hair at the root, where as when you wax of thread it removes the hair from the root.
There are many different types of wax you could use or you could have your hair threaded. I personally wax on the body and thread on my face as I recently learn that waxing my eye brows can take the top layer of skin off and also cause wrinkles!!!
