Pilates can be an excellent form of exercise during pregnancy so long you have been cleared by your GP and that you join a class or programme designed specially for pregnancy. During pregnancy the body undergoes many physical, psychological and emotional changes which will have great impact on the mother and baby’s wellbeing. Therefore, any exercise during that stage must be tailored and monitored by a professional qualified to work with pregnant clients. I take the opportunity to say that exercise is only beneficial if it is done correctly, safely and based on the client’s specific needs. Here are my practical steps:
1. First, go to your GP or consultant and get in writing a clearance form stating that you have no limitations to undertake Pilate’s exercises.
2. Become aware through educational literature/workshops/seminars of all stages of your pregnancy and what to expect during the 1st, 2nd and 3rd trimester.
3. Look for a professional qualified in pre and post natal pilates exercises
4. Avoid exercising during the 1st trimester of pregnancy.
5. Enjoy your new you, and above all, have fun during that blessed and beautiful phase of your life!

Absolutely! In fact, it's one of the best forms of exercise to do whilst pregnant. I did Pilates until I was 37 weeks with both my children.
However, it is best to start practising Pilates after 12 weeks i.e. after your 1st trimester. Also, only very gentle abdominal exercises and stop any "sit up" type exercises by 18-22 weeks. Pilates will strengthen your core and pelvic floor muscles as well as your back.
My best advice is listen to your body - there should be no pain (except for those pregnancy niggles) and if you feel too tired, have a bath or go for a gentle swim!
Good luck with your pregnancy!

I would answer this a little differently. If you are going to work privately with a qualified instructor (one that has training in Pilates for pregnancy protocol), then I think it would be ok. Although, I would agree to wait until after the first trimester. For pregnant clients, Pilates exercises need to be very modified from the traditional exercises and the studio you work at will need several special props to accomodate your condition, especially the curved back support which is the only way you can safely do the lying down work on the reformer and cadillac. The main thing is to work with an instructor with alot of experience working with pregnant women. As for group Pilates classes, I don't recommend it.
