I must preface this with the caveat that I am truly a beginner at Yoga (I have gone less than 10 total times in my life), so I signed up for a Level 1 class at YogaWorks near Union Square - and I must say that it was fantastic. The best yoga class both in the sense of getting a great understanding of the poses and movements, but also in terms of the pace, the instruction, the environment, the workout and the instructors themselves. I am really looking forward to my next class.

The instructor (Chrissy Carter), was just fantastic. Patient, explained things well and engaged with students before & after the class with tips, and answered questions as well. Today's class was focused on balance and the feet. A very cool quote she weaved (wove?) into the class was: "Balance is falling in all directions simultaneously", which I found to be useful and interesting. (I guess as contrasted with 'Balance' being still, and standing in one place). By the end of the class, my awareness of my posture, balance and body was significantly improved, and I felt like i got a great workout in terms of stretching and lengthening.

Anyway, a few tips: you might miss the entrance as its a discreet entranceway right next to Aveda store (in the Gallery tab above, you can see outside images of the entrance). You need to buzz 401, and then take an elevator to the 4th floor. The studio is bright, airy and cheerful.

A few more highlights below.
- Lovely hardwood floors
- Perfect temperature, even on a warm day it was perfectly cool & comfortable
- Amazing teachers
- Welcoming staff at the front desk
- Free use of mat on the first visit ($2 each time for future usage)
- Complimentary Water
- Small changing rooms (like you have in a department store with a shower curtain type mechanism)
