I took my mum for a back massage and use of the spa facilities. The spa itself was a bit like a leisure center but having said that, the Jacuzzi and sauna/relaxation room were lush. The massage topped it off though. You couldn't fault it and it really made the whole experience.

we went to the Barnsley spa a bit worried as i read the reviews after i had booked. this day was for my birthday
when i got there the other half of our party had already arrived and had been told that the spa bags were £2 and then another lady over rode that and said that they were £3 we decided not to argue as it was my birthday and it just wasn't worth it. we got shown around and advised to book our lunch which we did. we all had a back and neck massage that we all loved along with a scalp massage that was lovely. i later arranged to squeeze in a 30 minute facial for just £15 they said i could have it as an upgrade which i wasn't advised about when i booked their central reservation line. this was a shame as we would of all have done this. the lunch was nice nothing special but it wasn't awful. we had free teas and coffees and the pool sauna steam and relaxation therapy room were lovely as was the jacuzzi. all in all we agreed that we had had a lovely day and we would book again. excellent value for money and the therapists were fantastic. so pleased we didn't go on the negative reviews (better value for money than titanic in my opinion!)

the treatment and spa were beautiful but we didnt expect to be part of the local swimming pool with children included it really spoilt the atmosphere of the day!!
the robes were very tatty although clean, overall I would rcommend the treatment room but not the 'spa day' very disappointing
*most of the ladies there agreed with us.

We were greeted by very rude, miserable recpetion staff and the charged £2 each to borrow the slippers and robes, only to be told after paying that actually the slippers hadnt been delivered so we would have to walk around bare foot! It came to around 1oclock and me and my mum decided to go to get something to eat but felt rude going into the cafe without shoes on, so I went back to recpetion and asked if they had any slippers yet, only to be told by the stern looking woman no. So we went for lunch in the cafe which was reasonably priced for this sort of establishment, I had to take my hot chocolate back to the counter however as she had forgot to put my drink into it, quite amusing I know. To say we were supposed to be at a spa and getting pampered the whole place is more of a common leisure centre but without polite staff. It lacks the personal touches such as the nice toiletries in the changing rooms and the quietness, and the smell of the spa, also it was overcrowded and even in the cafe you had to go and get your drinks from the counter instead of them being brought over to your table. Its these little things for me that make a spa trip enjoyable not being met by a grumpy old lady on recpetion with poor customer service skills. Neither of us will be returning we will stick to what we know we like and go to Elements Medispa at Doncaster which is everything this place is not!

I was impressed with the flexibility of the venue as they kindly rebooked our spa day when roadworks made us late for our original booking. However, I found the venue very unclear on things such as where everything was, where to get robes and towels from. We were directed up to the spa and had our treatment. We had not been given robes etc so expected these to be given straight after treatment. We got dressed into our swimwear and were then told that we had to go back down to reception of Leisure centre to get our spa bag. The staff upstairs did not have any and would not get them for us. This was embarrassing to go back down to reception in swimwear, where the member of staff was surprised we were not given them upstairs. We were given no guidance as to what facilities were available to us for our spa day (this was our first visit to this venue) and this has put me off further visits. My daughter and I did enjoy our time there, and the cafe was very reasonable, but poorly situated with view onto main road (not somewhere you can relax in a robe halfway through a spa day).

The massage we had was lovely (although 15 minutes late!) but the overall experience was very disappointing. We were told to come early and make use of the facilities but as it was a Sunday there were no classes on and the pool area was noisy and full of children having swimming lessons - none of this explained when booking! The sauna, steam and new 'relaxation room' weren't very relaxing at all as they are situation right next to the noisy pool and the huge gaps under the doors don't block out any of the noise - also the aromatherapy[y oils pumped into the steam room were so strong that they made our eyes sting and we could only stay in for 5 minutes!
Lunch in the cafe was terrible - £4.50 for a (cold) microwaved meal isn't a good deal and having the staff yell out your order when its ready to collect from the counter didn't make things any better - the music there was so loud too it was difficult to hold a conversation without shouting. After an hour of this we decided to move to the 'relaxation area' outside the spa to get some peace whilst our treatment time; unfortunately this are is situation right outside the very gym which was playing the same music but louder! Unfortunately there isn't anywhere within the actual spa where you can get away from this unless you're having your treatment.
We were told that there was a complimentary tea and coffee facility however there were lots of empty options in the machine and no milk for anything - after waiting 15 minutes for a therapist to appear we asked for milk then after a further 15 minutes we asked again - the milk came just in time for our treatment so we didn't end up having a drink!
The treatment itself was lovely although we both had to express a little discomfort at the immense pressure used...afterwards we were brought a glass of water and told to come round 'in our own time' and the therapists would be waiting at the desk outside; this I don't think they mean literally as after only 5-10 minutes we were asked to get out of the room as they needed it for their next client!
Another quick latte was had in the noisy cafe downstairs as the area outside the spa was full, this time we were subjected to being hoovered and cleaned around before we got changed and left - overall a very disappointing sap day and one which we will NOT be repeating.

Had a great day with my sisters. We enjoyed using the gym, spa and each had a treatment (facial or massage). Would highly recommend the Bannatyne Spa, Barnsley for a super relaxing day out!

I took my friend with me for a relaxing day together and wasn't at all sure what to expect as I had never been anywhere like this before. I was pleasantly surprised by the enthusiasm of the lady who greeted us and showed us around, she made sure we understood that nothing was any trouble.
The therapists who did our massage were wonderful and helped us completely relax, I didn't want to speak for nearly 45 minutes and almost dozed off it was so fabulous! We exited the therapy room almost on a cloud!
The rest of the facilities were wonderfully clean and spacious, we made use of the steam rooms, sauna, jacuzzi and swimming pool - and the relaxation room was simply out of this world, we could have stayed in there all day except that we didn't wish to be selfish to others and hog it!
Many, many thanks to Bannatynes and the staff, as my friend said to me on the day, that was the best £32.50 we each spent!

A very lovely place. Was very relaxing and there were a great amount of facilities. The staff were all helpful and the treatments were amazing. Bought it as a present for my mum and we both thoroughly enjoyed our day.
