Was what was expected for a haircut, but didn't exceed my expectations. Price was good value considering it was a deal but the ordinary price seems a bit high. Good ambience and interior, nice staff.

As someone who has wild, thick and curly hair, I am really picky about who I will go to for a haircut. And since I have a nomadic existence and move around quite often, I find myself always looking for a new hair salon and stylist, which is not ideal. Since moving to NYC about six months ago, I wasn't sure where to go for a much-needed cut and contemplated waiting until my next trip home to San Francisco to visit my favorite stylist. But this MobDeal on Wahanda popped up for a haircut at Salon 13 in the Lower East Side, and I decided to give it a try for a few reasons: the price point was great (even a full price cut is still affordable), the salon seemed to have fun, hip, stylish vibe to it, and I was intrigued by getting a cut by a celebrity hairstylist.
My appointment was on a late Saturday afternoon, and I mixed up my appointment, so ended up arriving an hour early. Seamus, one of the owners, was lovely and suggested I pop by his friend's bar around the corner, noting that they'll take care of me, which they did! Came back and was asked if I wanted a beer, which I declined since I'm not a beer drinker and just had a nice glass of wine at the bar.
My cut was with Alx, who immediately gave me her recommendation on what we should do with my hair. I was surprised for she seemed to know exactly what I wanted and needed before I had the chance to give her my usual spiel about my hair. Alx got to work and I could tell I was in expert hands, which allowed me to relax and enjoy the funky ambiance of Salon 13 with its longhorn skull, purple walls, photography exhibit and eclectic mix of country and alternative music. A very unique salon experience; felt more like I was hanging out with friends on a chill weekend afternoon and left with a fabulous, manageable cut. Totally recommend!

Jennie gave me a great, great cut! Easy to do in the morning, so easy I no longer even need to use the hairdryer! I would definitely have Jennie cut my hair again!

A good haircut, and the coupon helped! I am female, and have very short curly hair, almost a 'fro (think Seth Rogen hair.) Alx's method of hair cutting seems random and unorganized, but she is actually looking at how your hair grows out of your scalp, and cuts with the patterns of your hair. As a result, the cut is growing quite nicely and is very flattering. The salon itself is tiny, bare-bones, a "black box." Alx is fun and upbeat, but I could do without her drinking a beer while doing my hair. I realize that's part of the salon's schtick, but it's off-putting if your over 30. The cafe next door is nice, btw, if you're with someone waiting for you.

I don't get this feeling very often, but I walked into Salon 13 and knew that I was supposed to be there. Alx was meant to cut my hair. My hair was meant to drop at the touch of her shears. I really needed a beer after the crap day I had! In the mix of awesome conversation and hair flying off my head, we realized that we've probably passed each other hundreds of times in the late-night Miami party scene in the 90's. I have been searching for a stylist, but I found an artist in the process. Alx not only fixed the mistakes someone else made on my head, she gave me a LOOK! I'm hooked! My hair looks the best it ever has. She said "your hair should work for you, don't work for your hair." Thanks dude, it works!
