LA Boxing, in a nutshell, is P90x on crack...extremely difficult, but extremely addictive. It's an entire hour of non-stop cross-training. No water breaks, no 30-second rest periods. Your "rest" consists of sprawls, squats, jumping jacks, and mountain climbers. Get ready to repeat until you can't...and then repeat one more time. Meaning: if you want to push yourself and actually lose weight/build muscle...this gym's for you.
Surprisingly, you'll also learn actual fighting techniques and realize you would have probably dislocated your shoulder and broken several fingers if you'd tried to fight anything 2 days prior. Don't worry beginners...the instructors are great at covering the basics. My favs: Ramzi and Doug.

I'm not big on the gym. I tend toward sports (cycling, running, swimming, etc) as opposed to lifting weights. I was going to try P90X, but I just couldn't find a place I could do it in my house without waking up my family at 6 a.m. After seeing a TV commercial (seriously) I decided to give it a try. I boxed a little in college and trained at Tae Kwon Do for a number of years, so what the heck. The whole principal behind P90X is to do something different every day, and the "somethings" that you do aren't necessarily things you'd do without someone pushing you.
I've been for a couple weeks now and in summary, I love it! I'm sore all of the time. The workouts are different every day. A great combination of cardio, strength, and boxing. I've seen some people complain that this is not a real boxing gym. That's true, it's not. So what? Most of us are in this for the workout and there are definitely more than a few people in my class who are looking to be fighters. But a "real" boxing gym is a little too intimidating and intense for those of us looking to avoid major head trauma. I've seen at least one review complaining of lack of devotion to the "sweet science". I just don't find that to be true. We skip rope, every workout. Although I've never sparred with any of them, I can say that all of the instructors here are definitely fighters. They're smooth, light on their feet, have quick hands, and great technique.
I needed to drop 25 pounds already lost 10 pounds!
The only negative thing I can say about this gym is that they only have 2 showers, . I can live with it, no problem, but it would improve the value of the gym if they had a larger shower area.
I'm addicted. There's nothing like working the heavy bag for an hour before going into work. I pre paid for a year. :-)
