Gentlemen's Tonic at Selfridge's department store is a unique establishment in the heart of London that affords the modern man a traditional barbershop and a variety of lifestyle and grooming services.
Our establishment comprises elements of old and new: wood, leather and marble are mixed with high-tech music consoles and LCD screens in each of our private haircutting stations and treatment rooms. Our services and products have been carefully selected and personally tested for quality and effectiveness and are designed to promote a sense of well-being and vitality.
The name Gentlemen's Tonic has been chosen to reflect two aspects of the business: Gentlemen's to indicate that the business is dedicated exclusively to the needs of men and Tonic to signify the restorative properties of the experience.
Our philosophy is understated, self confident and is an opportunity for our clients to experience the highest level of dedicated care and attention.
Gentlemen's Tonic is the perfect antidote to the rigours and stresses of the outside world.

I decided to use my recently received Wahanda £50 Gift Voucher for a much needed deep tissue massage, and was curious to see how an upscale men's spa would be inside on of the busiest shopping centres in London. In short, my 45 minute massage treatment was superb, and my therapist (Pauline) was fantastic, knowledgeable and very communicative and apparently has 17+ years of experience, so I was in very capable hands.
I was surprised that there was a 12noon appointment available for a Saturday, but the woman on the phone was very helpful and booked me straight in (and even asked me if I was going to be using a voucher, but when I came to pay my record did not indicate this, so there was a bit of jostling to use my voucher in the end).
I had a bit of trouble finding the spa, but asked around and eventually found the narrow corridor that leads into a mostly grey & black themed facility. All staff were dressed in black contemporary outfits (a bit like going into a Gucci store), including my therapist, which took me a bit by surprise (I guess I am used to therapists being more comfortably dressed in Asian inspired outfits).
I did not have to wait long, and Pauline took me to the room and asked me all the right questions including where I wanted her to concentrate the treatment. She did a brilliant job on my troubled shoulder, and on my back and neck as well, and the 45 minutes absolutely flew by. At times it would have been great if she had checked to see whether I wanted more (or less) pressure, but that's a minor issue since she was mostly spot on with the treatment and all of the stretching she was doing with my arms & neck.
The room itself was very cool grey and actually quite spacious, and had a shower in there (but no mirror, I noticed). The massage table was very comfortable, but I noticed some squeaking whenever the therapist was applying deep strokes (sounded like it needed some oil). Minor issue, but definitely noticeable. The therapist chose the music (Norah Jones) - it would have also been cool to perhaps select from a choice myself if there were other options.
Anyway, in summary, I definitely highly recommend this spa. Perfect location, very friendly staff and my therapist was definitely top notch. I look forward to trying their other location as well.
