I have just won the PHD Femme Body Challenge which is a fitness competition for females to transform their bodies in a 12 week period. Lots of females entered the challenge and I was the overhaul winner losing 15.7 kg in the 12 weeks !! I dieted and trained with the team at Gilmores gym in Acocks Green 4-5 days a week doing both kickboxing. boxing and their fitness class on Thursday evenings. The staff are very friendly and encouraging and if you want to work hard they push you the extra mile! Don't be put off thinking its a man's gym this is not true, when you visit the classes you will see there are as many friendly females as there are men, all willing to partner up with you and show you the ropes. My own children also attend the Little Ninjas classes at the gym and they have grown in confidence and fitness. My son who has autism has grown in all aspects of his skills..balance/coordination, his concerntration not only in class but at school too. The staff are encouraging and patient with him and this adds to his learning curve. It is a family friendly place and a hobby everyone can do together. If you just wanted to improve your fitness there will be something for everyone xx

Been training with Paul Gillmore for about 3 months now in Thai Boxing. Learnt a great deal from him and progressing well under his tutelage. It is a great way to get fit and all done in a very safe environment. The facilties are second to none and club atmosphere is very friendly too. I am a wedding planner, and have a constant stream of Brides-to-be wanting to get in shape for their big day. This can be a bit daunting, so as market research (and the desire to get in shape myself) I booked a private lesson at the gym. The instructor Paul put me at ease straight away, and it was clear that he has a bespoke approach for each individual, and will work with you, rather than bark orders and scare you into not coming back! I was shattered but energised after my first session, so booked another 6 that day. Needless to say, I have never looked back! I have never been in better shape these days, and that is solely down to the help I have received from Combat Sports Centre. I now recommend these lessons to every single Bride, as you are guaranteed results, as well as a a great new hobby.

This is a serious gym, no gimmicks, just straight down to business. Impressive, friendly and professional instructors. A comprehensive range of courses available, my needs were more for fitness than learning martial arts, so the chief instructor designed a regime perfect for my age and restricted ability. The premises are very conveniently situated, right in the centre of Acocks Green, the bus stops right outside, the rail station is 2 minutes walk. It even has its own car park. The gym was fairly quiet during the day, but is really jumping every evening. At first I was worried that in the early evenings, there often seemed to be lots of youngsters, but they are all very respectful and well disciplined. The adults gradually take over as the evening wears on. There is a very friendly atmosphere, and I gather that there are lots of competitions available for those who are in to proper training, both individual or as part of a team. The only negative for me was that I can't find the time to go more often.
