First of all I should mention that I went to stay a night using my Pru Health private medical insurance discount which enabled me to stay the night for £60 (Platinum level member) which included 3 meals, 1 back massage and full use of the facilities so for me the value was AMAZING!
The food was healthy and great, there was no chocolate available on the premises so I made a note to myself to next time smuggle some in.
The room was sufficient, nothing special, just a standard room as expected.
The facilities were all clean and sanitized and I loved the steam room.
My back massage was a little mediocre, it didn't really rate it that highly but I'm not complaining seeing as it was free.
The Iothermie Ultimate treatment which I paid for separately (£90) did not make me lose the inches I had hoped for so I kind of feel like I wasted my money there. It was very strange having electric pads pulsating my muscles. The therapist was lovely though.
I'm definitely going back, perhaps not to Tring but a different Champneys.

I have to start with the treatment - Kriotherapy. Walking around in a room at -110 below zero with only a woolly crop top and shorts on doesn't sound very appealing, in fact I looked hilarious, but boy did it work wonders for my skin. I was a little nervous at the prospect of being virtually frozen alive, but once you get in the "chambers" it's fine. First your blood pressure is taken to make sure you're actually in the right health to go on with the treatment, then you're given some rather attractive clothes to wear (please note: I may be lying about the attractiveness). A crop top and shorts, headband to cover your ears, what look like hockey socks that go over your knees, then plenty of tubigrip bandages to cover your knees and elbows, plus a pair of gloves and face mask to cover your nose. These are, of course, to make sure your skin isn't too exposed to the cold, so whilst you look completely laughable they're very safe.
The therapist, Renata, is great too. She put me at ease and didn't laugh too much when I walked out with icicles on my eyelashes (yes, did I say it was freezing?) and explained the whole experience very well. You start in a chamber at -60 to get you acclimatised for 30 seconds, then you move into the colder chamber for 3 minutes, constantly walking around and exercising to keep the blood flow going. Taking big gulps of fresh air felt incredible, it's a real treat for inside and out. Then the exercising afterward on a power plate to get the blood flow moving again meant I left being able to touch my toes! I've not been able to do that for years.
The facilities in the spa were fabulous too. I spend a whole hour snoozing by the poolside, and kept dipping in and out of the laconium for some warmth. The outside jacuzzi was brilliant in the afternoon heat and the gardens looked so lovely. I also tried out some Thalassotherapy, which gave my back a well-needed massage - especially the wall cascade, that was particularly relaxing.
All in all I really enjoyed my stay at Champneys - the food was delicious, the staff we so friendly, facilities were top-notch, and the treatment that sounded so weird ended up making my skin feel the softest it's ever felt!

We had a loevly relaxing day :)
Loved the thalassotherapy pool and therapist in there was lovely :)
Not the best facial I have ever had but nice and relaxing (no exfoliation which I thought was odd??)
The relaxation room is not the best but have been spoilt at The Grove so you can't compare really !!
Overall a lovely relaxing day - oh.. the outdoor jacuzzi was great and the lunch wasn't bad either :)

It’s easy to forget there’s life outside London. And a soothing, tranquil, stress-free one at that. One minute I was stomping down Platform 14 at Euston station, still very much in ‘London mode’… and the next (fifty minutes later to be exact-ish), I was at Champneys, Tring.
‘Oh!’ was the first thing I think I said upon arriving, and it had nothing to do with the fact that the Blackburn Rovers first team were leaving as I arrived (nice boys). It’s because it’s so beautiful. It looks just like one of those old fashioned, country estates you see on period dramas, except this is much better because it has Jacuzzis.
Champneys have added to their ‘alternative’ menu, with treatments such as Kriotherapy, where you freeze yourself healthy basically, Reiki, La Stone, Shiroabhyangam, plus a range of massages to cater for every whim, ache or pain.
I had several massages, all of which were enjoyable, and much needed. When I had my full body masasge, it felt like my therapist was kneading dough over granola, but then my muscles relaxed, and I drifted off.
I also enjoyed a traditional, and very authentic, Shiatsu massage, LA stone, and Hopi Ear Candles, ‘a relaxing and gentle natural therapy to cleanse and harmonise’.
I spent the weekend in a happy, serene daze, so the exact details of each treatment are hard to remember, but to me, this is a good thing. I believe a good 55 minute massage should feel like it was no more than 15 minutes.
The therapists were polite, but quiet (which I liked) and thorough, and gave me time to get undressed and dressed after each treatment, ensuring I had room temperature water too. All these small details are important, as someone rushing you after a massage ruin the entire experience.
The food is also good, but there’s just too much of it. In that, it’s hard to just visit the buffet just once. Room service is... quirky, but the staff are so charming, it's hard to get mad if your wine doesn't arrive exactly the same time as your meal.
My room was also fine – not amazing – but comfortable, and a nice space to relax in. And that’s it, really. I’ll probably go again, as it’s just so close to London, it seems silly not to. It’s a relatively small price to pay for a full battery recharge.

I always wanted to go to Tring but the choices of treatments are so enormous. Did you find that some of the treatments were better than others?

I've been to Champneys Forest Mere in the past and felt it to be rather dated, twee and stuffy, which has put me off trying any of their other destination spas. What was the atmosphere like at Tring and is it fairly modern?
